Calista
Calista had always believed good music came from pain.
Whether that was physical pain, or an emotional kind, or perhaps some other kind of pain, she was never quite sure.
Maybe it was just the way things worked.
There's beauty in tragedy. There's meaning.
Not that joy, happiness, or comfort ever made for a bad melody, of course. The problem was just the sense of depth and scope. Perhaps, as a woman, she found herself responding to the deeper, darker, more tragic, because she could relate to it better.
Men sang about pain, too.
And while that's true, they tended to lack a bit of the grit women could lend a voice.
Call her weird for this but there was just something about female pain she always found to be the most attractive and addictive to hear, and seeing as music had never failed to amuse, inspire and enthrall her since the day she could make use of her senses, her sensitivity towards it has, likewise, always been acute.
The voice that belonged to a broken, defeated woman had always been powerful and sharp—a pitch of roughness with a sense of weariness and agony.
It goes without saying that people like to wallow in the suffering and heartache of others, and, as the wittier members of society often like to proclaim, they love the bittersweet pain of heartbreak because misery loves company, and that's all that matters.
Then her brother, her dastardly and dangerously handsome brother, who apparently had no clue about music nor what the effects of a silken, innocent and dark velvet voice would have on a listener, decided to upheaval the entirety of her views with a single song.
Calista's mind was short-circuited by lyrics about a man's tongue tracing alphabets on places her professional demeanor wouldn't allow her to name.
She nearly hit the 'no-no button' for a fourth time.
Luckily enough, that damn muscle memory kicked in at the very last millisecond and caught her index finger just inches above the key that would send all their work straight to oblivion.
She wheeled around on her chair, turning to face Damien.
He stood there. Headphones cupped his ears, microphone positioned at perfect height, all his features arranged in an expression of serious concentration.
Damien caught her eyes, and smiled breezily. "Ready when you are, boss lady."
Calista grunted, turning back to the mixing board. Her fingers hovered over the record button, hesitating.
'This is it.' She thought. 'The moment my brother sings about giving oral pleasure to some lucky woman in a track that will probably break the internet and cause mass hysteria across the heavens.' She wanted to laugh at that thought. 'My mother would have an aneurysm. Iris would faint. Ivy would probably need therapy for the rest of her life. I'll probably be known as the sister who produced the anthem that brought civilization to its knees.'
All those thoughts flittered around her head like a butterfly inside a jar.
'Okay, enough with this stupid pep talk...' She grumbled in her head, shoulders slouching.
She sighed, raising a hand, and gestured for Damien.
She could already feel her poor, already damaged pussy spasming, she imagined the panties she wore would be ruined by the end of this. One look at the lyrics had her working herself to a boneless heap the other night, to have Damien sing the actual song in front of her?
"Hit it." Calista grunted, looking at the controls.
It took a lot to not curl up into a ball and bang her head repeatedly into the hard desk surface to cease this odd, arousing torment.
She hit the button.
The red light illuminated Damien's face. His lips pulled into a half-smile. The song introduced itself with the melody she had produced; and just as they had discussed beforehand, Damien followed along with a hum. "Woah woah, ohh~♪"
It wasn't yet a full verse.
He looked her way, and of-fucking-course he did. The bastard had nowhere else to look at but her.
It was a good thing that her face muscles were made of unyielding iron.
His eyes still fixed squarely on her, though now heavy-lidded. It was a typical 'fuck me, mommy' look that he had inadvertently mastered.
"You can make a smile from pain... ♪"
"You can win while losing your reign...♪"
"Build a throne and still go insane...♪"
With only his voice in the room and the natural reverb and echo, Damien's voice cut right through Calista's headphones.
Her jaw clenched. Damien smiled through it all.
"Just give me that rush that makes me high...♪"
And then his voice soared like a bird through the chorus.
Calista felt her eyes shut briefly. He's a fucking singer, alright.
"Baby, tell me how much you need me... my scent in the air, you breathe me... ♪"
There was a twinkle of mischief in his eyes as he sang the next lines.
"Don't move, I'm on my knees... I'll take you for a spin... ♪"
His head swayed a little, along with his body. A gentle, nearly imperceptible wave. "An obsession that lives underneath your skin. The second you open up those eyes, you'll forget every one of my lies...♪"
A brief instrumental which did little to nothing to re-solidify Calista's spine for that onslaught for the senses.
Yeah, just as she had imagined, a man singing about what he wanted to do to another person was bound to hit a different spot.
She already had an idea that men shouldn't sing about shit like these or there would be mass hysteria and the end of human civilization—not that she ever thought any sane man would ever mouth out those words of their own free will.
But now that Damien's words were fathomingly real in her ears, well, the point of the end of humanity was rapidly becoming the least important issue in the world, really.
Damien sang through the first verse, the chorus, the post chorus, and the second verse.
Calista's heart thudded throughout the song.
Even now, as the song was reaching its final run, that feeling still hadn't lessened in the slightest.
Like a full, thunderous, eardrum-battering storm, his voice got rougher and rougher towards the end. "You'll forget every one of my lies!!♪" The veins on his neck slowly bulged as he built up like a volcano. "BABY, BABY PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEEEEE...♪"
It went on and on, like he had forgotten how to breathe; she had too, as a matter of fact.
This can't be real.
Even when it ended…
Damien's sustained belt was still vibrating through Calista's earphones. She was frozen, but not like an idiot with their jaw dropping. She was stiff-as-a-log, locked up.
He continued to belt it out, getting breathier and weaker towards the end. "I'm on my knees...♪ Uhhh, uhuh, hmm...♪"
The moment ended and faded out, as the music reached its denouement.
Slow, quiet, soft, and hushed.
His breath fanned a bit around the mic. Calista's heart thudded, watching.
Warm silver eyes latched on to hers, the music had concluded and she was back to earth once again. "Did you get all of that, Cali?"
Forget the panties, the fucker broke her fucking entire being.
"...Did... I... ?" She could barely form coherent words with the amount of sex the mere sound of his voice has caused to befoul her poor, ruined vagina. "Yeah, I did."
She had to discreetly rub the knuckles of her hand in-between her legs, under the table, just to make sure she wasn't flooding a new ocean and have the carpet drowned in her vaginal juices.
Perhaps that was an overexaggeration, but considering how warm she felt, she reckoned the idea wasn't too far from the mark.
Who'd have thought the day would come where a man singing could actually make her horny?
Her brother, no less.
Her fucking brother.
"Calista."
"Mmph?"
Damien was approaching with an excited grin on his face. She watched him carefully.
'Yes, yes, calm the fuck down...' Her inner voice told her, urging her heart and libido to settle.
Her fingers hovered uncertainly around the mixing board's controls.
Calista could be cruel when the situation demanded. Cold and callous. As indifferent as a refrigerator in the desert. As mirthful as a school librarian in a classroom full of bratty kids.
However, the way that grin caused her throat to hitch made Calista want to roll out her tongue and moan his name in utter, open worship.
"Now we're done!" Damien chirped as he rushed in her direction. "We actually did it!"
She barely had a second to pull herself together, and plaster an impassive expression on her face. "Yes, it seems we are..." She muttered, eyes flickering towards the computer screen.
"Is everything there? Did the mic catch it properly? Did I sound alright at the end there, or was it too raspy?"
"No, it was perfect… I don't think we should do more takes."
Calista could hardly believe it herself. Usually, with the singers she worked with, she'd splice the best lines from different takes in order to make each line the best possible one. Naturally, that required several attempts.
This process was called vocal comping, where different versions of a single line or section of the song were recorded one after the other, and edited later to create a master version.
Calista, herself, had gone through a number of songs where it would sometimes take quite a long time to find the perfect, crisp line.
Damien didn't even break a sweat, as if it wasn't his first time singing with this level of depth and power, and it was only then Calista truly understood the potential he was holding in.
Her brother had a gorgeous set of vocals, enough to impregnate the moon if he put his mind into it.
For once, her mother would have to do a doubletake at what her offspring would present.
She put it on playback.
And both Calista and her brother listened in silence as the finished product played back through their headphones.
It was a bit raw, but amazing. Stunning.
"Are you... happy?" Calista asked him, observing his features, eager to witness any crack in the otherwise jubilant and victorious mask that spread on his face. 'Does this really make you happy?'
"Yeah, it sounds good..." Damien's eyes sparkled. "I can't wait for the release."
Calista nodded absentmindedly, not really paying any attention to anything beyond the single-track recording she was playing. "Me too..."
"Now what?"
Damien turned towards her.
"Now, I have to clean this up and do the edits, I guess." Calista shrugged. She moved towards her workstation, Damien following a pace behind her. She sank heavily into her ergonomic chair and slid a few notches lower.
Damien occupied the spare seat to her immediate right and began helping her tidy up.
"I'd like to do this alone, Damien."
She said with a disgruntled look, hoping her brother would get a hint and get lost.
"Just let me stay."
"I've told you before that I like to work alone." Calista sniffed haughtily, pretending to not even see the offended look on her brother's face. "I'll call you once I have it all worked out, so please leave."
Damien rolled his eyes, sighed, but then stood up.
He swerved around towards the doorway. He halted briefly, his head rotating so that it faced the wall in his right and tilted to the side as if looking down in thought. Calista watched, already reaching for her cigarettes; if Damien wasn't going to be the death of her, the nicotine inhalation surely would.
"Thanks, sis. For helping me make this song possible." He offered her a lop-sided smile. "I wouldn't have been able to do it without you."
"...Y... yeah... sure..." She grunted, preoccupied with her lighter and nicotine addiction.
Then she watched Damien walk out and close the door.
As soon as it closed, her mouth tightened to a straight line and her jaw tightened.
And then...
Her control finally shattered, she grunted and sighed out loud, desperately trying to light up the cigarette but the trembling fingers had no damn idea how to click on that ignitor, much less flick a lit cigarette between her lips.
When she finally managed a drag, her frayed nerves rode on the calming toxic clouds into a momentary quiet and she finally, fucking finally relaxed.
"Alright, let's do this."
Calista cracked her knuckles, hunched her shoulders, and decided to finish this bad boy in record time. It wasn't a complex track, and she wanted to have it release-ready by the end of the day.
Also.
Let me clarify one thing. This song was made with AI, but the lyrics were written by me. I have no prior experience in songwriting. This is a first experience for me. It's not going to sound professional, but I figured it was miles better than whatever AI chugs out. Feel free to be critical, but take into account my inexperience in the matter. So, yeah, don't expect actual studio level shit. Oh, and, this will mark the end of AI songs. I'll do RL songs from here on; don't want to waste too much time coming up with lyrics and generating thousands of songs just to find the right one.
