Chapter 130
What Is Needed
“Th-This brother that the Second Young Lord mentioned, c-could it be the eldest young lord, Owen?”
Even though he was somewhat fearful of the Second Young Lord’s wrath, this matter needed to be confirmed. How could he randomly guess that the "brother" mentioned was that great person? If this young girl was indeed related to that legendary figure, then he had no idea how to conduct himself.
“Who gave you permission to directly speak my brother’s name like that?” Aman didn’t answer the question. Instead, he furrowed his brows, clearly showing his displeasure.
“I-I apologize. It’s just that I couldn’t believe it.” The old man glanced at the young girl beside Aman again, swallowing his saliva in fear.
“Hmph! Don’t let me hear it again.” The young man waved his hand and poured more liquor into his own cup, then poured some for Ellie, who was sitting beside him. His considerate action made the old man feel as if he had received a confirmation.
Although the eldest young lord of the Setter family was still unconscious and unable to perform as the Setter family had hoped, everyone in the Tower of Eternity knew that the Setter family would never let this eldest young lord die. It was said that they were trading everything they had just to keep him breathing. His status and existence were equivalent to the entire Setter family’s status!
If it were any other family, they would have given up after spending vast amounts of resources for over ten years. But the members of the Setter family had no intention of giving up. It was as if they were gambling, and everyone was watching this gamble unfold. If they won, the Setter family would rise to a level where no one could match their gaze. But if they lost, it might mean the downfall of the entire Setter family.
Their dedication showed that the Setter family wholeheartedly believed they could restore their eldest young lord to a normal life. So, what about the person who was the eldest young lord’s lover? Would they ignore her?
The old man felt somewhat at a loss. If one day, the Setter family won this gamble, it would mean that he once had the opportunity to curry favor with the future lady of such a powerful figure, wouldn’t it?
The eyes of the oldest person darted back and forth as his mind raced, thinking about how to attract the attention of this young lady. If he could successfully curry favor with her, it would be immensely beneficial in the future. Even if the eldest young lord did not regain consciousness and the Setter family had to relinquish their leadership position, he wouldn’t lose much. At the very least, the fact that the Setter family ruled two cities on the 6th floor was still true.
In the future, others might surpass the Setter family, but that didn’t mean that being friendly with the Setter family for over 10 years wouldn’t be beneficial.
“So, what do you think? Didn’t you want to curry favor with her?” Aman urged. The old man gave a dry laugh, but he knew this was an opportunity he couldn’t miss!
“Second Young Lord, future lady...I truly don’t know what I should offer someone so distinguished. However, if it involves potion concocting, whether it’s secret recipes or rare herbs, I am ready to provide them.”
“In fact, I have some herbs that might be beneficial to you. I know the Eldest Young Lord suffers from a life-consuming disease due to his heaven-defying magic powers. Ideally, he should use high-grade herbs like Tezetrons, as they will help alleviate his life-consuming condition by providing a significant amount of life force to his magic power.”
“It’s unfortunate that Tezetrons is an herb that can’t be used outside. In our kingdom, we don’t have a single Tezetrons plant, not even in the royal palace. I heard that you received some medicine containing Tezetrons from the royal family. That’s truly a great fortune for the Eldest Young Lord. However...even though we don’t have Tezetrons, we do have another herb that provides a significant amount of life force. It’s called “Tesenes herb,” an herb believed to be a mutation of Tezetrons.”
“We only have one Tesenes plant in our family. But if you need it, I can request another from the royal palace. With their life force-enhancing properties, they will help in the recovery of the Eldest Young Lord, at least to some extent.”
The old man pondered for a long time before speaking. He knew that what the Setter family needed now was medicine to heal the eldest young lord. If he had it, he would gladly offer it in exchange for the right to trade rare items with the Setter family. If it hadn’t been for Ellie giving them Tezetrons earlier, this offer would have been quite attractive.
However, the Setter family no longer needed those herbs, even if they were rare and at level 4...
“The Setter family doesn’t need those,” Aman rejected without hesitation. If they needed herbs with a lot of life force, they could simply ask Ellie for help. Why should they give benefits to anyone else but her?
His refusal left the old man stunned. Who would have thought that this second young lord wouldn’t even consider it for a second? He didn’t even ask what the exchange would be, just waved it off as if it had no value. Although Tesenes herb didn’t have the same properties as Tezetrons herb, the life force of level 4 herb was not insignificant. Using a large amount might give the eldest young lord a slight chance of survival...but wasn’t that still hope?
Previously, he had heard that the Setter family was buying herbs of any level that gave life forces. So why were they now dismissing a level 4 herb, of which there were only 3 in the entire Gaia Kingdom!?
“S-Second Young Lord, and future lady...you might not know much about the Tesenes herb, but it’s a level 4 herb. It provides a life force much higher than lower-level herbs. True, it’s not as good as Tezetrons, but it’s not that bad either. Perhaps you could take the offer to your family head for consideration. We’re just having a discussion today and don’t need an immediate answer. So...
“There’s no need to say more. We don’t need it. Even if it were my father, he would say the same thing.”
“B-But...why...” The old man was very confused. The proposal involving the Tesenes herb was something he and his family had thought about for a long time. They had been waiting for the opportunity to meet someone important from the Setter family before presenting it. They had also considered negotiating with the royal palace. No one in the family expected the Setter family to reject it outright!
“As for the decisions of the Setter family, I don’t think I need to explain anything to you.... By the way, do you have any other proposals? It seems you failed to curry favor with my brother’s people today,” Aman laughed mockingly. From his demeanor, it was clear that the Tesenes herb was indeed the best offer they had.
“U-Uh, actually, we do have many other things. If the future lady is lacking anything, perhaps you could let us know? Whatever you ask for, I will do my best to fulfill your request.” The old man was very wise. He couldn’t think of anything the Setter family might be lacking, especially with the important young lady of the Setter family; how could she lacked anything? Whatever she wanted, the Setter family would surely provide.
Ellie thought for a moment before saying what she wanted. In fact, she wanted to ask for a botanic elemental spirit script. If she had it, she could form a bond with another plant. However, with Aman nearby, Ellie didn’t want him to know her secret. Perhaps this new plant could be summoned during her time as “Luke.”
The identity of Luke would remain a secret, even from the Setter family. She didn’t want them to see all her actions. Therefore, this request was set aside.
Nevertheless, there was still one thing she had been interested in since earlier.
“If there’s something I need, I can easily ask the Setter family for it. But if you’re talking about something I’m somewhat interested in, it would be a formula for focus-enhancing and relaxation potions. It’s true that in our Ares Kingdom, such potions aren’t in high demand. The best-selling potions in our kingdom are those that boost power, increase speed, heal wounds, and so on. I wouldn’t say I need them for any practical purpose; I’m just interested in them. Besides, they might be useful to me at times.”
Ellie spoke as if she wasn’t very interested, not giving much importance to the potions in front of the old man. She emphasized their lack of significance in the kingdom, implying that even if they were made for sale, they wouldn’t be profitable. However, if speaking truthfully, focus-enhancing and relaxation potions would be highly beneficial to her. It wasn’t because she was an erudite person needing to read all day and night, but because managing the increasing number of spores required a lot of focus.
Initially, she used them to monitor her surroundings or track someone interesting. Now, she felt that having a broader view was better. However, her ability to concentrate had limits. Some spores in some places had to be recalled because they couldn’t be controlled. So, before they disappeared, wouldn’t it be better to recall them and merge them with other spores to form mushrooms?
It became a hassle for Ellie to manage, but if she had these two potions, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore. Moreover, it wasn’t just Ellie who needed them; she also thought of her great professor, who would surely need the focus-enhancing potion even more than she did.
The old man, upon hearing Ellie’s casual request, paused for a moment. The formulas for those two potions had remained secret until now, not because Christopher was so powerful that he could keep them hidden, but because their value wasn’t high enough to make people want to fight over them.
They were merely potions for children. Once someone reached level 3, the potions wouldn’t be effective anymore. Therefore, these potions didn’t sell in large quantities. No! Even if they did, they couldn’t command a high price, meaning the profit margin was low.
The cost of the herbs alone was more than half the price of the potion. Add to that were the costs of production, other materials, sales, and the fees paid to the royal family to ensure smooth trading. Though it was interesting, no one thought of asking for the potion formulas. It was better to buy them for the children in the family than to waste time making them.
“In truth, if you want these two potions, we can trade for them in the future. Their cost isn’t very high, and the Max family can even offer them as gifts to the Setter family. Since the young lady wants them, we can send them to you, how about that?”
The old man assumed Ellie wanted the potions for herself, given her statement about the lack of demand in Ares Kingdom. Although called focus-enhancing and relaxation potions, they merely relaxed the mind. For muscle relaxation after using magic power, the potions from Ares Kingdom were still needed.
“Hmm? Are you implying that you cannot give me the formulas?” The old man had slightly misunderstood.
Ellie didn’t want the low-level potions; what she wanted were the formulas. Her intention was to obtain the formulas and develop them into the stronger ones. She wanted to create higher quality potions that could be used by both her, at level 3, and her professor. Did he think she would be interested in mere low-level potions?
However, the fact that she was a level 3 magic user was unknown even to the well-experienced leader of the Max family. How could he have guessed beyond that?
“N-No, it’s not like that. I can give you the potion formulas, that’s not difficult at all. I was just concerned for you. There’s no need to prepare such low-level potions yourself. If you need...”
“I only want the formulas.” Without waiting for the head of the Max family to finish speaking, Ellie firmly stated her demand in an even tone, causing the old man to immediately fall silent.
He observed the unexpectedly strict young girl, who didn’t even give him a chance to propose an alliance. Her demeanor was strikingly similar to Aman’s.
“Very well, I will provide the potion formulas to you. Before you return to the Ares Kingdom, I will ensure you have them,” the family head responded with equal seriousness, recognizing her decisiveness.
These next 2 days would be his chance to prove he could procure valuable items for the Setter family. Even though it involved negotiating for formulas important to Christopher, with the power of the Max family, he was confident he could deliver them!
