This Heroine's Friend Has the Power of Botany
Chapter 196: Power MeasurementChapter 196
Power Measurement
"What are you all doing? Why aren’t you in your seats?" Before Nara could cause more of a scene, Professor Regan arrived in the classroom. He was surprised to see that the scholarship student hadn’t taken her seat yet, even though it was time for class to start.
"Professor Regan, it seems that Student Nara, the future priestess, doesn’t understand her status and the new status of Duchess Ellie. That’s why she hasn’t accepted her seat yet," one student quickly explained to the professor.
Regan looked at Nara, who still had a stunned expression, and sighed. He felt a headache coming on whenever he saw this girl. To him...Student Nara was a constant source of trouble—whether it was missing classes, sneaking into her same-village friend’s room to steal, or being unlucky enough to encounter a fleeing demonic beast and getting poisoned accidentally. In every way...she was a real problem child.
"Student Nara, coming from a village in Set City, should have heard the news by now, shouldn’t you? Student Ellie is currently the city lord of 4 cities within the Tower of Eternity. Therefore, the palace has temporarily granted her the title “Duchess.” When she controls 5 cities, she will become a “Princess” of the Ares Kingdom. So, all of you, not just Student Nara, must treat her as a duchess. Otherwise, it would be considered breaking the kingdom’s laws and you would be punished."
"As for Scholarship Student Nara using her role as a “priestess,” that will only apply after graduation. For now, you are just Scholarship Student Nara. Being treated as such isn’t wrong. Otherwise, Student Ellie would already be treated as a “princess” despite only ruling 4 cities. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Right now, you may feel it’s unfair because you will soon become a priestess, but soon can also mean “impossible.” Nothing is certain in a human’s life. Someone judged to be dead can come back and achieve great things, while someone destined for greatness can fall in a single day."
"Just like those who live as hunters, death is always close at hand. As students of this institute, you’re considered half-hunters, so death is never far from you. This is why you must focus on your studies. I expect all of you to survive in any situation."
"Now, go to your seats," Professor Regan waved his hand, dismissing the students. Nara felt like her spirit had left her body. She wanted this to be just a dream. The notion that Ellie could become a princess of the kingdom...seemed too surreal to be true.
When did she become a city lord!? Since when had the gap between her and Ellie grown so wide!!?
"For this second year, all of you know that we’ll have less time together. Because of this...you’ll be able to spend more time with your direct mentors. This year will allow you to study what interests you. For those who don’t seek direct mentorship, it won’t affect you as long as you focus on your training. Some students spend their lives in the tower, attending only a few classes with their homeroom teacher. After graduation, some could even become professors at this institute."
"You all might have known Professor Lucien. He was like that, studying how to use his powers on his own, but it came with difficulties far greater than others. Without being prepared to die, he wouldn’t have been able to venture into the tower alone."
"Professor Lucien used his powers to conquer several cities but gave them to the institute. He was only interested in increasing his combat strength and didn’t care about political power. I think Professor Lucien is someone you can truly call a “mentor”."
"I’m not saying every student should seek out Professor Lucien and ask to be his disciple. I’m just illustrating that there are many paths to take. There are many other professors with different skills and interests. In our class...I’ve heard that more than half of the students have already found a mentor, correct?"
Professor Regan asked with a smile, and many students nodded, including Nara, who smiled happily. She had been worried that she wouldn’t find another good mentor like Professor Lucien, but that wasn’t the case!
While Professor Lucien taught boring theoretical lessons, Professor Lily had a shortcut to increase her strength. As long as Nara could find and tame a powerful beast, in the future...she would command respect from everyone!
"Come on, first...everyone needs to measure their power level. After this, I will schedule group meetings to teach you according to your strengths and powers."
"If you’re ready, come and measure your magic power," Professor Regan was not addressing each student by name. If someone was ready, they could simply step forward. It wasn’t a big deal.
"Let me go first," Aria said with a smile, tossing her fiery red hair back. Her beauty and strength became apparent, exciting everyone who saw her boldness.
Professor Regan nodded in approval. He genuinely admired her determination. It seemed that the important young lady from the Femon family wasn’t ordinary at all. Seeing her red hair...it couldn’t help but remind Regan of another young man he had accepted as a direct disciple. He felt the boy had issues with his thought processes, unsure of what he was thinking. Though he often appeared calm and composed, there was underlying impatience whenever training didn’t go well.
But never mind that...He didn’t dislike students who sought strength.
"Place your hand on the magic power measuring stone and release your magic power slowly...Mmm, Student Aria, you’ve been working hard. Your power is now at mid-level 2!!"
"Oh!! It’s been just 1 year, but Lady Aria will reach level 3?"
"This is amazing. She might even reach mid-level 3 before graduation."
"Lady Aria is still Lady Aria! So strong, just as expected from the Femon family!!" Everyone exclaimed excitedly and admired her. Unlike the scholarship students whose powers emerged naturally, most of them had used potions to awaken their magic powers. Therefore, their initial power level was just over level 1. So, as Professor Regan mentioned, having Lady Aria’s magic power reach mid-level 2 meant she had indeed been training hard!
"Who’s next?"
"I, I’ll go next." One by one, the students stepped up to measure their powers. Most had decent power levels, generally around early level 2, which was in line with the professor’s expectations. Graduates typically reached around level 3, or slightly above, by the end of their fourth year.
Currently, the students with the highest power levels in the class were Aria, at mid-level 2, and Duchess Vida, who was at late level 2. It was clear that Duchess Vida’s strength lived up to everyone’s expectations.
"Next..." There were only 2 students left who hadn’t measured their powers yet: Ellie and Nara.
Ellie noticed how nervous Nara looked. She knew Nara wouldn’t volunteer to go first. If Nara were confident, she believed Nara would have gone before Lady Aria. So, Ellie decided to go next ...
........... In truth, Ellie didn’t want to overshadow everyone. Otherwise, she would have volunteered to go first. But if she had done that, it might have crushed the spirits of those who followed. Setting the standard at level 2 first was better. She hoped Nara would go before her too, but Nara remained silent.
"I’ll go, Professor." Seeing that Ellie would go next, Regan smiled slightly, feeling he could expect something impressive from Student Ellie. It was a pity she didn’t want to be his direct disciple, but knowing she chose to pursue stratagem-making over studying under Professor Medik and Professor Lucien, he felt reassured. At least he wasn’t the only one she had turned down.
"Place your hand," Regan instructed in a few words. Ellie stepped forward and placed her hand on the stone. A beautiful green light emanated, overflowing with life force that made the students feel a sense of comfort and happiness. Before they could fully bask in this feeling, a sharp-eyed student suddenly shouted in shock, snapping everyone back to attention.
“That!! That’s past level 3!!”
“What, what? Ah!! It’s true, it really is past level 3!!”
“Duchess Ellie is truly amazing. She’s only in the second year. We’ve just started our second year!!”
“My god! How can Duchess Ellie be this strong? Wasn’t it said that training special element powers is slower than training normal element powers? And now...we have both Duchess Vida and Duchess Ellie. Don’t tell me that...Nara’s power will be even higher!”
“This is incredible! Our class has someone who can be compared to legends!!” Everyone exclaimed excitedly. Regan, seeing the results, laughed happily. Who would have thought that an extraordinary genius would appear in the class he was advising!?
“W-wait a minute, the power...the power hasn’t stopped yet!!” However, Ellie’s astonishing display didn’t stop at level 3. It surpassed early stage, advancing to mid-level 3. The eyes of all the students widened in disbelief. Being at early level 3 was already amazing, but she had reached mid-level 3 and showed no signs of stopping.
“Isn’t this too much? Even our graduated seniors are only at level 3.”
“This isn’t genius-level power; it’s more like a demon.”
“Heh, heh, heh, it looks like the legends of the institute are about to be surpassed. Isn’t she going to graduate with mid-level 4 power? That’s equal to the professors here!”
Initially, everyone was shocked by what they saw, but when they realized Ellie was far beyond their imagination, their feelings turned to fear and envy.
As Ellie had intended from the start, she started with her power at mid-level 2 when she first entered the institute. So, after a year of study and with the Setter family’s support, everyone assumed her level 3 and above power was due to the Setter family’s assistance. No one thought Ellie’s strength was due to her own efforts.
But if she was at early level 3, they would have been excited and probably asked how she did it, what training methods she used, confident they could reach her level. Therefore, Ellie accelerated her training to a point where they would only watch in envy.
“Alright...Student Ellie now has power at early level 4!” Professor Regan announced, still unsure. Actually, he wanted to think the measuring stone was malfunctioning, but the previous students’ measurements had no issues.
“....................” Everyone else who heard this announcement felt utterly drained. They were glad they measured their power first; otherwise, they wouldn’t have wanted to know their own levels. If they were at levels 1 or 2 and got excited, how would they feel next to someone with level 4 power!?
However, the power measurement didn’t end with Ellie being the last to go. Professor Regan looked at the other girl sitting and biting her nails in frustration, her eyes red as if possessed by a demon. Despite feeling sympathetic...every student had to undergo the power test. Everyone else had already done it, and Nara had to follow the rules too.
“Student Nara, you’re the last one left. Come forward and test your power,” Regan said calmly. The room fell silent, and a wave of sympathy washed over the students.
“Professor...I’d like to test my power in private...”
“Whether you test now or in private, the result will be the same. The results will be posted for all the professors to see. After this, they will be selecting disciples, so this is the rule...Moreover, regardless of your level, the institute’s responsibility is to make you stronger by the time you graduate,”
Regan explained neutrally. Many students in the room were still at level 1, and they didn’t seem worried at all. Nara had a baseline of level 2, so there was nothing to worry about. Even if her power level remained the same, it wouldn’t be an issue...
Of course, Professor Regan didn’t know. If Nara were an ordinary scholarship student, her power would indeed stay at level 2, despite doing nothing. Unfortunately, her power was awakened by using potions, so her power level had gradually decreased. This was because she hadn’t received proper training like other students who had awakened their powers with potions.
Furthermore...it wasn’t just that she hadn’t been trained correctly; she had faced numerous threats over time. Whether it was the “demonic toxin” or the “Pink Poison,” her body had used up almost all of her magic power. So, expecting her to be at level 2 would be nothing but a joke!
