Chapter 208
Let Her Be
“What’s going on? Why are the assistant professors gathering over there? Didn’t Duchess Ellie just bring her stratagem base to that assistant professor for review?”
“Exactly, what’s suddenly happening? Judging by their expressions, this isn’t a small matter.”
“If the stratagem Duchesss Ellie made was incorrect, it should’ve ended there, right? Why do they look so serious? They don’t need to make a big deal out of it. Just tell her it’s wrong and let her figure out the mistakes on her own.”
“It’s always like that every year. This must be an unusual case.” Many students who noticed the commotion from afar discussed amongst themselves. Nadia crossed her arms, looking at the scene with sneer and scorn.
If that girl dared to embarrass her, just wait until she returned. She would get her revenge! She hadn’t thought of a good comeback earlier and hadn’t expected Ellie to use such harsh words against her. But this time, she had prepared her retort. She would definitely strike back!!
However, the outcome Nadia anticipated didn’t happen at all. The assistant professors, after hearing Ellie’s explanation for the third time, were all astonished. They tried to think and find any errors but couldn’t. There were some redundant steps in Ellie’s plan that they, with their experience, could help streamline. Yet...the new conceptual thinking and creating a new type of stratagem at her age seemed impossible in their eyes, but it had already happened!
“What do you all think?” Ellie felt a bit sore in her throat. Her small eyebrows furrowed, showing some dissatisfaction. Including the first explanation, this was the 4th time she had to repeat herself. If there were mistakes, they could just give advice instead of making her repeat everything.
“Ahem...uh, I think it’s best to consult Professor Nico. He’s working at the palace today, which isn’t too far. I’ll send someone to fetch him. Please wait for about 30 minutes,” one of the assistant professors regained his composure. He exchanged glances with everyone, and they all agreed.
Creating a new stratagem, even a low-level 1-star one, required registration and a public announcement to inform everyone of this new special stratagem. Doing so would greatly enhance the reputation of the Stratagem Branch in the Ares Kingdom. This newfound fame might attract the attention of the Annihilation Stratagem Association to the stratagem creators of Ares Kingdom even more.
“.................” Ellie watched them running in and out with confusion. After waiting for about 30 minutes, Professor Nico returned with 2 more assistant professors. They arrived, slightly out of breath, with panicked expressions. During their approach, an assistant professor who had previously heard Ellie’s explanation briefed them on what had happened.
Professor Nico looked at Ellie with sparkling eyes, though disbelief was also evident. It was clear he understood the working method of this new stratagem and had quite a positive impression of it.
Many students saw Professor Nico rushing in and stopped what they were doing. They felt that this was no longer a small matter that they could ignore. Professor Nico hurried in without a word, carefully picked up Ellie’s stratagem base and examined it. It took him just over 10 minutes before he put it down.
This was indeed a new stratagem, but it was still only a level 1-star stratagem. It wasn’t complex enough to require extensive interpretation, so he quickly concluded its level of completeness.
"Alright, call everyone to witness this," Professor Nico exhaled deeply. To say he wasn’t exhausted from rushing over would be a lie because, after hearing about this, he almost flew out of the palace. It was only now that he could take a deep breath.
The assistant professor complied and soon all the students in the branch gathered. Of course, Nadia was among them. She didn’t understand what was happening, but the fact that Professor Nico himself came and held Ellie’s stratagem base was bizarre. She had a bad feeling about this.
"Everyone, first of all, let me assure you that calling you here is not for a bad reason, so there’s no need to worry. This is actually very good news for our Stratagem Branch. No! I should say it’s great news for the entire Ares Kingdom," Professor Nico began, his posture full of pride. He straightened his back with a sense of accomplishment.
"This is the first time in many years that the Ares Kingdom has developed a new type of stratagem on its own. Yes...the new stratagem I’m talking about is based on the foundation created by our esteemed student, Ellie. Let’s all give a round of applause to this promising new student of ours," Professor Nico concluded. The assistant professors started clapping first, and the students, still stunned by what they heard, gradually followed.
The applause continued for over 3 minutes before it died down, and everyone’s thoughts became clearer. Ellie herself realized that she had once again created a significant stir.
She had only intended to create a stratagem for watering plants. Why were they making such a big deal out of it? Was there something unusual about creating a new type of stratagem?
"It’s not often that new stratagems are created, even if this is just a 1-star stratagem. However, it will forever be a point of pride for our number 1 institute. I will personally inspect and help Student Ellie perfect this stratagem. After that, we will register it and have it listed in the Annihilation Stratagem Association’s directory. Student Ellie’s name will be recorded there as the creator. So...the reason I called you all here is to let you know..."
"If Student Ellie can do it, then you all need to try a bit harder. In the future...it might be one of you who creates a new stratagem, earning a place in the Annihilation Stratagem Association, bringing honor to our kingdom, and making a name for your family.
"I hope you all take after Student Ellie here. Stop saying or thinking that it’s impossible for you. Sometimes, your interest in the work isn’t strong enough. Student Ellie only used what she had studied in the library, combined elements innovatively, and created a new stratagem that no one had thought of before. So, if you study enough, you might create a new stratagem in the future too."
Professor Nico spoke earnestly and sternly. This matter felt like opening a new door of thought for him as well. He had never imagined that creating a new type of stratagem was possible. He was always preoccupied with refining existing stratagems to match the superior races. He had never thought creating new stratagems could be simple.
Yet Ellie had shown him otherwise. If even a young student like Ellie could do it, then surely he could too, right? From now on, they wouldn’t have to chase after the superior races’ stratagems. They should be able to create stratagems tailored for humans as well!
This girl had sought to solve a problem in her life. She pieced together various elements with creative thinking and ended up with a stratagem for watering plants. If this stratagem could be developed to be easily produced, then...perhaps in the future, crop yields could improve. Farmers wouldn’t need to waste time watering anymore, freeing them to do other tasks.
Ah...Of course, it might not be worthwhile for ordinary crops, but what if it were used for expensive herbs!
"Alright, you may go now," Professor Nico waved his hand, ending the lecture. It was time to focus on the task at hand. He turned back to Ellie with a glint in his eye.
"As for you...your idea is excellent, but as a mentor, I have a few suggestions to help you refine your work. Follow me...my assistant professors and I will help you create a prototype."
Professor Nico wouldn’t let Ellie work hard alone. The prototype needed to be created as quickly as possible to be sent for evaluation by the association. So, within a day, the professor and the assistants brainstormed and worked together to perfect the creation method. Ellie understood some parts and not others, but she learned a lot from listening to their discussions.
While the group of professors and Ellie were engrossed in their intense work, the other students returned to their desks in a daze.
Nadia couldn’t believe what was happening. She was a descendant of a renowned stratagem creator and understood what kind of this situation was, and what was the creation of a new type of stratagem. Her eyes burned with a mix of sadness, anger, and jealousy. However, all she could do now was sit quietly at her workstation.
Many students relayed the events to their families. The creation of a new stratagem was significant news. Once their families found out, the news spread quickly. Eventually, families skilled in stratagem creation vied for the rights to produce this new product, anticipating significant profits.
The Setter family also heard about their future lady’s accomplishment. It seemed the chaos from their future lord hadn’t settled yet, and now there was more due to the hard work of their future lady!
Families proficient in stratagem creation practically ran to secure these rights, even though the Setter family hadn’t received any details about the new stratagem yet.
The important butler had to manage this chaos while Steven, the head of the Setter family, laughed heartily at the commotion. After all...he wasn’t the one dealing with everything personally, but the benefits made him proud.
Previously, there had been the commotion about potion concocting, and now, before all of her abilities were fully displayed, the future lady showcased yet another talent! Truly, she was a perfect match for his eldest son!
Let the Setter family handle their affairs. At the institute, the news was just as sensational. A student suddenly creating a new type of stratagem was no small matter. The acting director practically beamed with pride wherever he went.
He had only been the acting director for a short time, yet under his watch, the institute had won a potion-concocting competition for the first time in years. Now, they had a student who created a new stratagem! When the director returned, he would likely reward him handsomely.
"Professor Medik, I originally called you here to reprimand you for allowing your talented potion-concocting student to join the Stratagem Creation Branch. But..." The acting director looked at Medik, whose face was dark with discontent, and felt a bit of sympathy. After all, Medik had lost a gifted student to another department. However...it seemed the student was better suited for the Stratagem Creation Branch.
"From now on, I ask that you allow her to have her time. Don’t force her to assist with potion concocting. I believe a student with such talent belongs in the Stratagem Branch. She’s only been in the Stratagem Branch for a week and has already created a new stratagem. An apothecary might see such talent once in a century, but in the Stratagem Branch, in the Ares Kingdom, such talent hasn’t been seen in a millennium! Perhaps...even the ancestors of the Ryuger family wouldn’t compare to her."
Because the Ryuger family members who entered the Annihilation Stratagem Association had never achieved such feats at such a young age, he thus had high expectations for Ellie’s future accomplishments!
The more Professor Medik listened, the more he realized that he had effectively lost his only disciple. Ellie had previously promised to continue helping him with potion concocting since she was a botanical magic user. However...now, even without relying on her botanic power, she could contribute in other significant ways.
Professor Lucien sensed the gloom emanating from the person beside him. He sighed softly, feeling that Ellie was becoming more and more like a freak. No matter what she did, it turned into a success. It was hard to tell whether it was due to her luck or her exceptional talent.
Previously, he had wanted to take Medik’s disciple for himself. He had heard that Professor Regan even offered to take her as his direct disciple. Then she ended up with Professor Nico, and she excelled even more. Was there anything she couldn’t do?
"Acting Director, Professor Medik has worked hard today. Please allow him to rest," Lucien spoke up before Professor Medik could respond. Otherwise, it might have given the acting director a headache.
"Ah...yes, that’s true. You both go rest. Don’t overwork yourselves."
The two professors left the director’s office. Throughout the walk, Medik looked extremely dejected. His thoughts were in turmoil, and...he felt he might need to have a good cry.
It was already quite dark by now. The two professors entered the Botanical Building in silence. Lucien had invited Medik to relax and enjoy some good food, but Medik had no appetite. He trudged back to the Botanical Building, his final refuge, with slumped shoulders.
However, upon reaching the top floor, his eyes were caught by something that filled the room.
