Chapter 221
Command
As mentioned earlier, dimensional rings were not easy to come by. The Setter family itself only had about 2-3 pieces. Previously, there were only 2 pieces: 1 with the family head and another given to Ellie, who was understood to be the Mage. The royal family had as many as the Setter family, just 2 pieces: 1 for the Emperor and another stored in the treasury, awaiting the next emperor. When the former Emperor died, it would be placed back in the treasury to wait for the next generation, continuing the cycle.
However, Aman currently did not know how many dimensional rings the Setter family had. His eldest brother seemed to possess one as well, and some of his brother’s men have them too. In the end, the rare treasures were just waiting for his brother to find them.
Therefore, with the mission having the convenience of transportation, it seemed like an easy task. They were all at ease with the mission. However, many people were still worried about it.
"Your Highness, how can you take on this entire mission alone? I think it would be better if my Jarlon family assisted. Young Lord Aman is already quite overwhelmed,"
Duchess Vida said as she approached after everyone began to disperse to prepare. The prince remained standing with everyone, including Ellie and Aman. They had to divide the tasks and ensure everyone was ready to undertake the mission together, making group discussions necessary.
Jason frowned in displeasure. He already harbored resentment toward the Jarlon family, who always exerted their authority. The engagement was merely due to the Jarlon family’s power. He never found Duchess Vida interesting. Moreover...as soon as she became his fiancée, she had to be given a city to manage, becoming Duchess Vida to display her overwhelming power.
Heh, it was all just to make him respect her!
Jason did want power and aspired to be Emperor, but...it didn’t mean he wanted it through cowardly means like others!
"This is a matter for my group and me to plan and decide. I don’t think you need to offer any advice. Besides...do you think that without your Jarlon family, I couldn’t complete this mission?"
"Y-Your Highness, I didn’t mean to..."
"Leave. I don’t want to hear any more commands from you," Jason waved his hand dismissively. Duchess Vida’s face turned pale, and she felt tears welling up, unable to speak from sorrow and frustration.
"Your Highness, Duchess Vida is only concerned for you," Aria couldn’t bear seeing the duchess she respected so much being misunderstood and immediately intervened. However, this only seemed to damage Duchess Vida’s image even further.
Ellie sighed at Aria’s actions. Perhaps...Vida had fully turned into the villainess due to friends like Aria.
Prince Jason frowned in displeasure. He thought that although Vida hadn’t spoken herself, she was still pressuring him through her friend. Claiming it was out of concern, wasn’t this an insult? Were they saying that without the Jarlon family, he was to be concerned?
For lovers, trust and respect were paramount. Instead of believing in his capabilities and respecting his decisions, Vida repeatedly tried to undermine his reputation! As a prince, how could he tolerate such humiliation!?
Of course, Jason’s perspective had its reasons, but that didn’t mean Duchess Vida and Aria were wrong either. Ellie understood that the prince was prejudiced, so he acted like this.
"Concerned? It seems my fiancée thinks this prince is utterly useless," Prince Jason sneered. Vida’s face paled even more, and Aria seemed to want to say something, but Prince Jason raised his hand to stop her.
"You don’t need to say anything more. I don’t want your advice," he said before turning his attention back to his group. Aman shook his head at the discord between the two sides. This was why he didn’t want to get involved with high-born women.
And yes! Aman thought similarly to the prince. Men had their pride to protect. Especially something the prince had declared. If Duchess Vida truly wanted to respect the prince, she wouldn’t have meddled twice.
Men’s thoughts differed from Ellie’s. She knew they had high egos. It wasn’t surprising that they most favored Nara, who needed their protection. The men, believing themselves to be strong, could showcase their abilities fully. Compared to Duchess Vida, who thought she had her powerful family backing, Nara’s vulnerability allowed them to display their prowess. This difference made the men uncomfortable and turned Nara into the story’s heroine.
Ellie felt sorry for Duchess Vida. She had admired the prince for a long time, so it wasn’t strange she was worried. Wherever she went, people protected her and were willing to die for her. She simply thought it would be good if the prince had her people to sacrifice for him as well. Vida didn’t care about others’ opinions; she was just concerned and didn’t want her fiancé to be hurt.
A noble and intelligent woman, yet when it came to matters of the heart, she couldn’t keep her emotions in check and thinking calmly. It was no wonder others often misunderstood her. Her overly astute image led everyone to believe her every action was well thought out, even when speaking. The prince assumed that she had carefully considered everything she said.
He couldn’t grasp Duchess Vida’s genuine feelings at all.
“Duchess Vida, Lady Aria, you need not worry excessively about others. Remember, you are in a dangerous situation as well,” Ellie stopped them from speaking further. However, her words were too blunt, causing Duchess Vida and Aria to wince at the reminder.
Luckily, the three women were close enough. Both Vida and Aria knew Ellie’s straightforward nature. She always spoke clearly, leaving no need to overthink her words. Thus, when Ellie said something, one needed not interpret her words. Compared to others, who might make them wonder if they were being insulted, but when these words came from Ellie, they could only sigh.
“Understood. We must prepare ourselves as well,” Duchess Vida recognized that the prince no longer wanted to hear her speak. Her face showed slight sadness, but she tried to maintain her composure.
Such a strong woman was ultimately seen as cunning. Her calm face and high-held head made it easy to misinterpret her as arrogant, scheming, and proud. In reality, Vida was just trained to be this way.
“Let’s go, Aria. May you stay safe, Your Highness,” Duchess Vida respectfully bowed before leaving. The prince exhaled in annoyance, then looked at Ellie.
He noticed that Ellie seemed quite close to the 2 who just left. He narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
“Are you close with them?” Ellie raised her eyebrows slightly upon hearing the question. She knew the prince was suspicious about her relationship with Duchess Vida. Most people would distance themselves from Duchess Vida to curry favor with the prince, knowing he didn’t hold the Jarlon family in high regard.
He was eager to become stronger, to prove himself, and to resist the power of the nobles, understanding that they sought to reap the benefits later. This determination had been with him since childhood, leading him to always oppose his engagement, even in the face of royal decrees.
It was no surprise that the prince was interested in Nara according to the story. It was almost like declaring war on all the nobles and rebelling against his traditionalist father, the Emperor. It could be said that it was a typical rebellious phase for a young man.
To achieve success in his own way, Prince Jason created a legend. He was the only prince to conquer a city while still studying, without revealing his identity. This demonstrated his determination. The only unfortunate thing was that...he didn’t realize Vida was not at fault. His actions were too harsh on a young woman.
In real life, it wasn’t as severe as in the novel’s storyline yet. If he ever took an interest in Nara, his thoughts about Vida would worsen, making Ellie feel sorry for Vida. A woman who tried to perfect herself was ultimately misunderstood by others. If she were Vida...she wouldn’t bother pleasing a man like this.
Even if he had straightforward thoughts, a person who quickly judged others based solely on appearances would not make a good partner...
Ellie stared at the prince before answering his question with a stoic face. Despite this, her tone clearly showed she no longer wished to converse with him.
“Yes, I am close to Duchess Vida and Lady Aria.” Hearing this, the prince frowned even more. Naturally, Ellie didn’t care. She turned back to Aman and asked him about the preparations.
“Just having the ring is enough for you. Leave the rest to us,” Aman said dismissively. Would he dare burden his future sister-in-law? If he made her handle too much, his brother might as well chop off his head.
He had heard rumors that his brother had ordered everyone to take good care of his future wife, ensuring she didn’t have to lift a finger. If she wanted something, they were to get it for her immediately, without making her ask twice, and never question her. There were many other things that he found hard to believe. He had intended to make this girl fall deeply in love with his brother, but it seemed like his brother ended up falling head over heels for her instead.
“Got it.” Ellie didn’t mind much. Even though Aman said she didn’t need to prepare anything, she still planned to buy some supplies. Better safe than sorry.
“As for you guys, make sure you prepare enough food. We will set up a camp in the Green Forest to avoid wasting time traveling back and forth. The Green Forest is quite far from the city under royal control. It might take a full day and night to get there, and traveling in a large group will slow us down. Therefore, it’s best to camp there.”
“If anyone hasn’t prepared their own shelter or food, you’ll have to find your own. Prepare enough food for 1 week. After that, you can ask those delivering mission to buy more resources, or you can eat the meat of beasts.”
"And also, bring enough healing potions, preventive potions, and other necessary supplies. You are the stratagem creators, so it would be good to bring plenty of equipment. While you’re in the camp, you’ll be working on setting up stratagems in case of emergencies."
"Oh, and don’t forget to bring defensive stratagems as well. You all should be able to install them, right? After finishing the fence, I’ll let you set up the stratagems around the camp. There are more than 30 of us, so the camp needs to be quite large. Everyone should contribute, and the more prepared we are, the safer we’ll be."
Aman gave orders to the others, most of whom were stratagem creators. Aman had worked with stratagem creators before. These people had skills superior to the average person in setting up stratagems because they had studied the essentials. For example, a regular person might utilize about 50% of a stratagem’s potential, but those trained in stratagem creation could enhance its efficiency to nearly 80%. So, these tasks were best left to them.
“I won’t let you down,” Nadia replied earnestly. Since they had accepted her into the group, she would demonstrate the value of stratagem creators!Of course, the resent of these stratagem creators would make Aman’s and the prince’s camp the envy of everyone later. Who would have thought that in the end, they would cry tears of blood because of envy?!!
