Chapter 248: The True ProtectorChapter 248
The True Protector
While the students were fiercely fighting, the poison user saw how dire the situation was for his side. If the battle continued like this, the soldiers would inevitably decrease in number and be unable to do anything. Thus, he changed his orders. Seeing the prince’s bravery, he decided to capture him first.
A soldier received the order and ran forward with a device in hand—it was another sleeping poison bomb. This time, he ran across the bodies of his fallen comrades to throw the sleeping poison bomb into the center of the camp.
Ellie was the first to notice. She shouted for everyone to prepare as her small fingers quickly pulling out an antidote. Some students reacted quickly and drank the antidote in one gulp.
"You bastards!!"
Aman shot his magic power at the soldier, causing the sleeping poison bomb to fall just before the camp’s entrance. Fortunately, there were Wind Flow stratagems that blew the poison back towards the enemy, causing over 20 soldiers in line to collapse one after another. Initially, they thought they had avoided the poison, but the poison user was truly insane.
After sending a soldier in but got poisoned themselves, more soldiers fell, becoming stepping stones for the rest. He then immediately leaped forward as the smoke cleared. Ellie didn’t notice until the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sleeping poison bombs were already floating above their camp.
"Drink the antidote quickly!!" Ellie shouted again as the poison bombs fell one by one.
Thick black smoke filled the area, obscuring the students’ vision. Fortunately, none of them passed out due to the timely antidote. However, this attack marked a turning point in the battle. They were initially the one who controlled the game, but within seconds, over 200 soldiers had stormed into the camp!
"Alright, let’s see how you resist now!"
A soldier shouted, raising his sword to the sky before swinging it violently and rapidly. It seemed his anger at seeing so many of his comrades fall had driven him into a frenzied state.
Unbeknownst to them, the soldiers of Rhea were being stimulated by poison that made them go berserk. It wasn’t because of their anger for their fallen comrades.
Their eyes turned blood-red. Initially, the fear of death was still in their hearts, but now, under the influence of the poison, they were ready to fight like rabid dogs.
"Argh!! Help!"
"Damn it! We’re being attacked now, argh!!" Many students couldn’t hold out any longer. Their vision was impaired, and with the soldiers slashing wildly like demons, some even hit their own allies but still didn’t feel the need to stop. In such a chaotic situation, even Ellie found it difficult to help everyone.
All she could do was take down as many soldiers as possible with her Empress’s Thread. Aman continued to throw bombs to prevent more enemies from entering. Only Prince Jason was now surrounded by the enemy.
"Haha, now we’ve got the prince! The rest of these students will be blown to pieces by our magic bombs!!"
A soldier shouted triumphantly. He didn’t care how many of his own troops were still in the camp. His twisted mind was fixated only on killing the enemy!
Ellie gritted her teeth. Maybe after this...even if her decomposition ability would be revealed, she had no choice but to use it.
"Think you can capture me so easily!? I’d rather die than be taken by you...argh!!"
"Your Highness!!" The enemy didn’t even let the prince finish his sentence. Once surrounded, it wasn’t hard to knock him unconscious.
Consequently, Prince Jason was immediately carried out. Ryker, not far away, tried to help but unfortunately, he alone couldn’t do anything to those people. He was blocked after taking only 2 steps by the 20 soldiers!
"Good, very good!!" The poison user laughed like a demon upon seeing the prince being taken out of the camp. The most beautiful symphony was about to begin!
"Alright, I believe everyone is ready to witness the greatness of our Seven Night Poison group."
The large man spread his arms, revealing millions of poisonous insects that slowly flew from his body. The black magic aura generated by the contamination made everyone feel sick, especially the students who realized their fate.
"Enjoy the...hmm?" Before he could attack the small camp, the sky suddenly darkened ominously. There was a loud "crack!" resonating across the sky.
The Rhea soldiers didn’t understand what was happening, nor did the students. Only Aman and Ellie smiled upon seeing the power.
"Haha, you said you were going to show us your greatness? Wrong...it should be us showing you...the consequences of meddling with someone you shouldn’t!"
"Oh, and I don’t mean that incompetent prince. I’m talking about...you daring to touch our sister-in-law!" Aman glared menacingly before looking up and shouting.
"Brother!! There’s an idiot trying to use poison against sister-in-lawwww!!!"
CRACK!!!
A bolt of lightning suddenly struck the ground as Aman’s voice trailed off. The sky, once illuminated by the moonlight, turned into boundless darkness.
The chilling atmosphere panicked the students, making them huddle closer to Young Lord Aman, as if he could shield them from any threat. But more importantly, Aman had already jumped behind Ellie, meaning she was now directly facing the enemy.
The Rhea soldiers exchanged glances. They could feel the murderous aura forming. Even the poison user, ready to unleash his proud secret card, froze in place. The insects he released earlier flew back into his body, seemingly too scared to face the blinding light now filling the sky.
The entire Fragrant Held Forest felt the immense power. The brave soldiers, who had been lazily dragging their feet, slowing down their march due to encounters with various beasts or because their leader claimed to have a certain instinct that made him cautious with every step, now became witnesses to this phenomenon.
Many soldiers didn’t dare to step forward. Even the leader felt uneasy about the lightning that had never appeared on the 1st floor of the Tower of Eternity. Remember, this was the Tower of Eternity; how could weather phenomena occur here?
There were no cities on the 1st floor where it rained constantly. If it did, it would only be on the higher floors. Thus, this phenomenon had to be caused by either a human or a powerful beast.
"W-What is happening? Why did the sky change like that?"
"I think it must be the work of a user of lightning power. There’s no way such a strong beast exists here."
"Is that supposed to be a joke? Who could possibly wield lightning power that strong? In the entire kingdom, it could only be the eldest young lord of the Setter family. Ha, ha, hmm? O-or...or is it..." A soldier spoke, feeling a chill run down his spine.
The person capable of creating such a phenomenon on the entire sky of the 1st floor of the tower could only be that young lord, the one who single-handedly conquered multiple cities on the 6th floor without scratch.
Previously, some had said he saw the 1st and 2nd floors as merely a backyard. Today, it seemed he was proving that he could indeed stroll through his backyard at will!
"Th-The eldest young lord? How could he be here? That can’t be true."
"What? Are you daring to think that? Don’t you know what’s on the first floor?"
"Hmm? What’s there? I thought he would be busy protecting the Setter family’s city. That city is rich in resources. They must be fully committed to preventing anyone from seizing them."
"Fool!! Who would dare take advantage of the Setter family!? Even if the Ares Kingdom lost the war and Rhea took over, they wouldn’t dare harm the Setter family. Let alone anyone else."
"Even so, what does that have to do with this!?"
"Everything! Because on this 1st floor, there is someone important to him! Don’t you know? Duchess Ellie, the one who delivers missions every week with that high-level dimensional ring. She’s the one Young Lord Owen would come for. And now...perhaps he found out that Duchess Ellie was attacked by the Rhea Kingdom. Isn’t she in the same group as the prince?"
"Huh? Then...perhaps the prince will receive help too?"
"I hope so. If the eldest young lord of the Setter family takes action...the soldiers of Rhea won’t stand a chance against his wrath!"
"Excellent!! Let’s hope that’s true. After this, I’ll hire someone to paint a picture of the young lord and worship it every day. I’ll regard him as my benefactor from now on! Because if we don’t reach the prince in time and something happens, we’ll lose our heads too! Who knows how the surveillance unit failed to detect thousands of Rhea soldiers!"
"Then have the craftsman make one for me too. I’ll worship him like a god." The soldiers chatted excitedly. They had been under pressure for a long time, not understanding their leader’s plan or why their march was so slow. So, if Young Lord Owen came to help first, they would owe him a great debt of gratitude.
Of course, they didn’t think they would get a chance to repay their debt this time. The young lord probably wouldn’t bother with lowly, unskilled soldiers like them. However, setting up a picture to worship him was a form of repayment too. At the very least, when they made merit, they could pray for his influence to increase.
While the soldiers were chatting, the squad leader’s face darkened. He couldn’t believe that the eldest young lord had suddenly come here. He thought like all the other soldiers—it couldn’t possibly be a natural occurrence in the tower. It had to be human-made, and only Young Lord Owen could do something like this.
If he truly was here, he would easily deal with the soldiers of the Rhea Kingdom. Consequently, the aftermath would bring misfortune to him.
"Can you hurry up? Moving so slowly...If something happens to His Highness, I’ll punish you all severely! Run! Do you think walking leisurely like this will save the prince? We are soldiers of the kingdom. Thus, His Highness’s life is like our own. If we can’t protect him, it means losing our lives too!!"
The soldiers exchanged glances. What nonsense was their leader suddenly spouting!? What did he mean by telling them to run? What did he mean by saying the blame would be on them!? Wasn’t he the one who ordered them to proceed cautiously and there was no need to rush!?
Crack!!!
More than 10 bolts of lightning flashed down again, this time directly targeting the soldiers of Rhea within the camp. Nearly 200 of them who had managed to enter were burned to ashes. They turned into blackened remnants before disappearing amidst the fear of both the students and the soldiers of Rhea!
As the poison smoke cleared, along with the bodies of the invading soldiers, the tall figure of someone appeared. The previously overcast sky began to clear, allowing the moonlight to shine down.
The sight of the handsome young man standing amidst the sparkling dust drew the attention of many. If it weren’t for his fierce eyes and stern face, some might have smiled.
"Brother!!"
