Chapter 59
Intimacy
Only two days had passed since the institution had sent students to help with the camp during this Red Plague. Turned out, Nara had managed to kill a demonic beast somewhat accidentally.
Originally, Regan intended to consult with the professors from the institution about the incident. However, after reconsidering, he realized that revealing his student had killed a demonic beast might not be beneficial. Nara might even be punished by the Church as a carrier of demonic toxin. Therefore, he advised the three students to keep the incident secret.
Nara was the most fearful of this revelation. Even after regaining consciousness, she cried incessantly, which led Wint, who misunderstood her actions as self-sacrifice to help other people, to realize the truth that it was the accidental killing, not Nara’s initial intention.
"As I mentioned before, you three are not permitted to speak of this. Do you understand?" Regan reiterated this to the three students. He had explained the consequences if it became known that Nara was contaminated with demonic toxin. For Nara herself...she wouldn’t let slip, as she still hoped to join the Church. If the truth were to leak, she would be the one in trouble.
Wint wasn’t so selfish. Since the girl did not want to reveal that she had saved everyone, he wouldn’t either. Nara trusted Wint, but she did not trust Ellie.
"Sob. Professor, I won’t speak of this, but I can’t trust that...others won’t. I’m scared..." Nara cried as she spoke, her gaze clearly showing her distrust towards Ellie.
The freckles-faced Ellie didn’t say a word. She couldn’t do much if Nara didn’t trust her. She just stood there, arms crossed, watching the unfolding scene. But the more she looked at that posture...the more Nara couldn’t trust her. If it weren’t for the fact that murdering Ellie would be her crime, Nara might have already dealt with her.
"I assure you that no one will speak of this. If this matter leaks, I will personally find and punish the responsible party," Regan threatened. Although he didn’t believe Ellie would do that, he reassured Nara to ease her concerns.
"But Professor..." Despite his assurances, Nara still felt distrust. Regrettably, it wasn’t Regan’s duty to make her trust anyone. He and scholarship student Ellie had fought side by side before, and just that cooperation was enough to understand her character.
If it had been any other student, they might have left him to fight alone when faced with danger. Would others care about the consequences? But Ellie had reached out to help. She fought alongside him without any thought of letting him fail. How could such a girl be evil?
Like men who bond through battle, fighting together was enough to understand each other’s true natures!
While student Ellie fought alongside a professor whom most students despised, Wint also appeared to help after seeing his and student Ellie’s fighting spirit. Meanwhile, student Nara, who was a prospective priestess, stayed hidden and did not lend a hand at all...It was clear who really had the most daunting character.
"As for today’s events, there’s no need to speak of them again, is there? Student Nara, you rest; student Wint and Ellie, follow me outside," Regan looked at the two who he still owing them.
Wint looked at Ellie with admiration, a look he had maintained since the incident occurred. Ellie felt slightly goose bumped by this, so when she saw Professor Regan went outside, she quickly ran to follow.
If she had to choose, she’d rather fight the demonic squirrel for another 10 minutes than stay with Wint and Nara!
"I’ve called you both out here simply to say thank you." Regan was waiting outside. Seeing Ellie emerge followed closely by Wint, he spoke directly.
For someone like Regan, who valued his face and dignity highly, he seldom expressed gratitude. This time, however, he felt genuinely thankful that the two students were willing to assist him.
"Actually, you both should have earned some points for your actions today. However, I’ve decided not to disclose today’s events, so you will not receive any points as a reward. But I won’t let your assistance go unacknowledged."
"Ellie...you are already Medik’s direct disciple. I don’t think it’s a mistake to be his student, nor do I intend to snatch you away to become my direct disciple. So, what I will give you is a manual on physical training. Even though you don’t possess combat power, I’ve seen how powerful your weapon can be. If you cooperate with that spiritual weapon...I believe you can efficiently hunt beasts in the Tower of Eternity."
"This physical training manual is called “Soft Jade Manual,” which the outcome is as the name implies. Women should not train too harshly as it could damage their muscles. The advantage of being a woman is your flexibility and softness. Thus, the Soft Jade Manual will enable your body to withstand any danger with flexibility, reducing your injuries, or at least buy you time to use your spiritual equipment."
Regan was genuinely attentive. After just a few seconds of cooperating with Ellie against the demonic beast, he could foresee her future and decided to reward her with advanced skills, which Ellie greatly appreciated.
"Thank you, Professor." Seeing Ellie simply accepted it, he nodded approvingly. Truly, she was a straightforward and quick wit girl. Her future would extend further than this. Not just with possessing botanic powers, but her courage was what would truly allow her to thrive.
Regan’s thoughts weren’t communicated to Ellie’s mind, but the proud young professor’s gaze showed increasing friendliness, and Ellie was satisfied with that.
"As for you..." Regan turned to look at the young man who, under normal circumstances, he would have ignored.
This man, who liked training but lacks adaptability, could go far if he’s lucky, but if he’s unlucky, he’d just be a low-level fighter. However, there’s no denying that his bravery in coming to help was appreciable, and for that, he should be repaid.
"I will take you as my direct disciple, and from now on, I will personally teach you the proper way to train." Upon hearing this, Wint’s eyes sparkled clearly.
This was his dream. Wint wanted to be acknowledged by a professor. Afterward, he would grow stronger and stronger. When he returned to the Femon family, he would make himself acknowledged. He didn’t want to carry the label of "just an illegitimate son" forever. Instead, he wanted people to call him "the genius of the Femon family."
"Professor!" Wint knelt down, bowing his head vigorously, a gesture of high respect. From now on, Regan’s status in Wint’s heart would be equivalent to that of a father.
Regan waved his hand, indicating Wint should not overdo his gesture, before the young professor went off to clean up the area to avoid raising suspicions. Ah...that’s not exactly right. Ellie felt that Regan probably wanted to escape the overly enthusiastic young man by her side more than anything.
"Scholarship student Ellie," Seeing that they were left alone, Wint called her to stay and talk with him.
The petite girl rolled her eyes slightly. Actually, Ellie would have run after Regan if it weren’t for her arm being seized by this muscular man.
"What is it, Lord Wint?"
"You don’t need to use high-class terms with me. I am just an illegitimate son of the Femon family," Wint waved his hand as if he wasn’t too concerned.
"It would be rude otherwise, please allow me to address you this way."
"Sigh, alright. You are more stubborn than I thought."
"..........." Ellie did not respond; she just gave a forced smile and tried to pull her arm back.
"Aren’t you curious about what I have to discuss?"
"Ah...curious, indeed."
"Right, I just grabbed you like this; you must be quite surprised," Wint smiled as if he was so fond of Ellie, despite being the same age.
"Actually...I should say I admire you greatly, which is why I wanted to get to know you better. Even though I secretly knew you before as a fellow scholarship student like Nara, with interesting botanic powers. At that time, I was wondering if a scholarship student without any backing, and with only weak botanic powers, would continue to fight or give up. And now I’ve seen the answer..."
"Like you, I am not supported by anyone in the family, but luckily, I have income from my father to use, unlike scholarship students like you. Yet, I’ve heard you’ve tried so hard that you’ve become accepted by the Setter family, right?"
"Since then, I wanted to get to know you better. Since you have the spirit of a fighter just like me, we should be companions. Do you think the same?" Wint said earnestly, his excitement growing with his speech. However, such enthusiasm made Ellie feel extremely frightened.
Reflecting a little on her memories of Hero No. 1, Ellie recalled that this hero met the heroine during the orientation day, which was indeed the case. At that time, the story was still the same. However, after that, Nara was frequently bullied by the high-class ladies. But the storyline changed because Ellie caused Nara to become a thief and pushed her to leave the institution for the Church. Therefore, instead of focusing on Nara, Wint turned his attention to another scholarship student, Ellie.
Even though Wint didn’t often see Ellie because there were no scenes where he came to rescue as the heroine did, his passion for being a fighter remained the same, and it was the reason he secretly investigated Ellie’s story at the institution and admired her for becoming an important person of the Setter family.
When the Setter family took Ellie on a mission, Wint set his sights on her. He saw Ellie as his target, thinking if a girl without any backing could develop herself to join a grand mission with the Setter family, how could he, a full-fledged man, remain weak?
As Ellie returned with a major success for the Setter family and her reputation further enhanced, Wint awaited the day he could get to know her and become her companion from then on.
After a special mission required all the students to gather, Wint had always hoped for the chance to be alone with Ellie. Unfortunately, many things happened, and he had to take care of Nara afterwards, leaving him no time to seek out Ellie himself. However, once he saw the fighting spirit in Ellie, Wint was certain...
"I...from now on, no matter what dangers we encounter, we will be together forever. I will be your partner."
This honest declaration was like something straight out of a novel. When Wint expressed his sincerity to the heroine Nara, he spoke similarly.
Knowing that he could only be a partner, while a more exalted position should belong to a prince or someone from a more distinguished family, he willingly lowered his status. From a man who should be responsible for a lady whose body he had seen; he became a man who could die in her stead as a partner.
Surely, heroine Nara might be pleased, but how could Ellie feel the same!
Previously it was villain Aman, and now it’s foolish Wint!! Someone...please go fetch the heroine to collect these two delusional men!
