This Heroine's Friend Has the Power of Botany
Chapter 68: The Powerful RakeChapter 68
The Powerful Rake
Clang, clang, clang!!
“Ahh!!” Nara screamed as she tried to push her way into the circle where Ellie was already standing.
The three men stood in a protective circle around the small, freckle-faced girl, completely ignoring Nara’s safety. This forced her to struggle for survival on her own.
Wint, already equipped with his shield, raised it to protect Ellie from harm. Koross and Aman, neither of whom were weak, used their weapons and powers to deflect all the sharp feathers. However, Aman’s irritation led him to kick Nara out of the circle when she tried to cling to his back.
And yes! This was why Nara screamed.
Luckily, Koross had deflected this wave of attacks; otherwise, Nara might have been seriously injured. Like the other students who were already wounded. However, they had no time to retrieve restorative potions because the next wave of attacks had already begun.
“If this keeps up, we’re doomed,” Ellie muttered. If they only defended, they would eventually be overwhelmed. Ellie was also frustrated that she couldn’t use her mushroom powers effectively. Gripping her black rake tightly, she wanted to do something about these annoying birds!
- Spirit Rake, Level 5: Properties include breaking down objects into smaller sizes, evening out areas, or sweeping away unwanted things.
Action Panel:
Option One: Channel botanic magic power into the tool to break down objects.
Option Two: Channel botanic magic power into the tool to even out the area.
Option Three: Channel botanic magic power into the tool to sweep away unwanted things from the target.
Special Option: As a result of forming a spiritual contract, the rake can be stored within the spirit and summoned instantly. -
Given the information about the Spirit Rake, Ellie was tempted to use the first option. However, the rake’s power was also suspicious. Everything related to decomposition was being closely watched. When she used it to decompose soil, Regan thought it was just digging, or something similar, which was plausible given that a rake was a farming tool. And being a level 5 tool, it wasn’t surprising that it had special abilities.
Nevertheless, a magical device with decomposition abilities was rare. If Ellie was the only one at the institution with such a device, it would draw suspicion to her.
Therefore, Ellie decided to try “Option Three: Channel botanic magic power into the tool to sweep away unwanted things from the target.”
In the past, Ellie had only targeted the ground around her or at a short distance, but she had never used it in the sky before. This was truly the first time...
Ellie marked a green spot in the sky, placing a rectangular frame above without worrying about the many beasts there. She then activated the command, and her botanic power was slowly absorbed into the high-level magical device.
Ellie felt that the absorption of magic into the tool was very different from before. Perhaps it was because her target was the sky, or maybe because there were many more targets this time. Nearly 10 seconds passed, during which feathers were used to attack them again. If it weren’t for Aman protecting her, Ellie might have been injured in this round of attack because her hand needed to stay on the rake to transfer the botanic power, leaving her unable to grab a shield.
“Ahh!!” Nara screamed again as 2 feathers wounded her legs. If she hadn’t desperately grabbed Wint’s arm, those feathers might have struck her head.
“Does this lowly woman not know how to defend herself!? She’s so annoying! Do you want me to kill you instead of those feathers!?” Aman shouted angrily. Who told Nara to keep screaming and making noise at him? He had to protect himself and Ellie, and her screams next to his ear were destroying his concentration.
Koross also wanted to reprimand Nara like Aman, but in truth, Aman was more to blame! Did he think he would not see that Aman’s annoyance with Nara’s clinging had led him to kick her out of the circle, forcing her to flee to someone else and scream?
Though Koross was equally irritated, this was a life-and-death situation. Letting the woman hide within their circle wasn’t such a burden.
“I-I. Sob! I’m scared. Help me. Lord Aman, Lord Wint, and that gentleman...please help me. I don’t want to die. Ellie! Help me!”
Nara felt like she had just narrowly escaped death and was terrified. She collapsed on the ground, her legs injured so severely she couldn’t get up. Nara seemed to lose her sanity, crawling toward Ellie’s legs as if she were her last hope, even though moments ago, she had been contemplating killing Ellie!
“..............” Ellie said nothing in response. She looked at Aman and saw that he was visibly annoyed. It was quite possible that Aman really did want to kill Nara.
“I don’t have the power to protect myself like that. I can’t help you,” Ellie replied bluntly to Nara. She herself was still relying on others for help, so how could she brazenly ask for someone else’s help?
In truth, if the situation were reversed and Nara were the one being protected by many people...she might have promised to help just to improve her own image and then asked others to help her friend. However, Ellie would not do that.
“No, no! Please, just let me stay with you. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die!” Nara clung to Ellie’s legs so tightly that they nearly fell over. Fortunately, Wint noticed and came over to support Ellie. He decided to help defuse the situation while maintaining his image as a good man.
“Nara, don’t worry. I’ll do my best to help you too, but you need to stay quiet and not disturb others’ concentration,” Wint said. Nara immediately covered her mouth compliantly.
Aman glanced at Wint, who was still trying to be the good guy even in this situation. He felt a strong urge to carry Ellie out of the area if it weren’t for the fact that she seemed to be planning something!
Luckily, by this time, the Spirit Rake had absorbed enough power to manifest its abilities. The black spiritual weapon floated out of Ellie’s hand as it had before. Amid the attacks of the beasts, which did not understand what it was, the black rake expanded, its handle growing larger than two fists wide.
“W-What is that?!”
“I think it’s Lady Ellie’s tool.”
“A spiritual weapon?” The students who saw the situation began talking about it. The rake’s movement attracted the attention of the bird beasts, causing them to pause their next wave of attacks and focus on the floating rake instead.
Luckily, these beasts lacked intelligence; otherwise, they would have fled instead of relentlessly attacking a lifeless rake!
"Take this chance to counterattack!" A fourth-year student shouted upon seeing that the bird beasts were no longer preparing to attack. This was a good idea for everyone. Many quickly unleashed their powers, resulting in a barrage of elemental power attacks.
Gwen felt a slight relief seeing that they finally had an opening to strike back. She had noticed how many students were injured. With the beasts’ attention diverted, the injured students had time to take out their potions and recover. Professor Gwen noted this in her mind—after this battle...the one who deserved the most credit point was the owner of that rake!
Boom!!
A loud movement echoed in the sky. The large rake suddenly moved in a strange manner, using its tines to sweep the beasts together. Of course, others didn’t see the green outlines like Ellie did. To everyone else, it looked like the rake was randomly attacking the beasts from left to right. But in reality, it was sweeping the dirt away from various target positions.
The beasts didn’t understand either. Believing they were being attacked, they swarmed in to destroy the black tool. However, the more they approached, the more they were repelled. The numerous winged beasts, after being swept together, began colliding in chaos. Some even fell from their original positions, giving the students a chance to strike and finish them off.
Moreover, the winged beasts’ chaotic flight into the rake allowed the spores on it to take root in their bodies.
And yes! Ellie hadn’t thought that sweeping the beasts aside would actually enable her to kill them. Thus, her initial plan was to make the beasts come into contact with the rake as much as possible, and it succeeded—no! It should be said that it exceeded her expectations!
The beasts flew into the rake wildly or collided with other beasts already carrying spores on them. As the spores were released into the air, they were able to root in more beasts. Ellie was thrilled by this outcome. While no one noticed her movements, Ellie quickly commanded the spores to decompose the internal organs of the level 1 beasts immediately.
The process was quite slow because these were level 1 beasts. If she had to decompose the entire body, it would take over half an hour. Fortunately, Ellie knew a new way to use her powers. She ordered the spores to decompose only the beasts’ hearts. This saved a lot of time and kept others from noticing what was happening.
The rake continued its work, and some of the beasts began to sense something was wrong. A few even clutched their chests in severe pain, and eventually, their bodies fell amidst the confusion of the crowd.
The only fortunate thing was the chaos. Many students were attacking, so they didn’t notice why the beasts were falling like birds with broken wings.
Ellie didn’t take any chances. Even if some beasts didn’t die from her spores, she ordered them to destroy the hearts of all the beasts. This ensured the beasts had something in common.
If some beasts had hearts and some didn’t, people might suspect someone was doing something strange. But if all the beasts lacked hearts, they would think it was an unusual phenomenon and might be the reason that caused the beasts to go mad. Even if someone became suspicious after she had done everything possible, Ellie could pretend she knew nothing. After all, she hadn’t used any other powers except sending the Spirit Rake into the sky!
“Keep attacking! They’re falling in droves. We have a chance to win!!”
“Hooray!! We will win for sure.” Many students shouted out. The situation had turned in favor of the humans once again...
