Chapter 106: Chapter 106: The Physical System Issues a Task

「The Prescott Residence」

"What did you say? Chloe scored over a 96 in every subject?" Sophia Quinn was stunned by what Ethan had just told her.

After all, she was well aware of Chloe’s past grades. Alice Cole had always been obsessed with them, and whenever the two families got together, Alice would inevitably bring up Chloe’s poor performance, saying things like, "How can she be so stupid?" and complaining that her grades just wouldn’t improve.

"Yeah, she’s incredible, isn’t she? Chloe’s amazing now. During the second mock exam, she even made a bet with her homeroom teacher that she’d score over 80 in every subject. Chloe won, and the teacher was so ashamed he quit."

Ethan’s voice swelled with pride as he spoke. In this third mock exam, his own scores had hovered between 97 and 98 in every subject.

’Maybe,’ he thought, ’by the time of the college entrance exams, Chloe’s scores might match mine, or even surpass them. If that happens, we could end up at the same university.’

"I can’t believe Chloe’s grades are so good now... so impressive! I always knew that girl had it in her." A sudden note of pride entered Sophia Quinn’s voice.

"Haha, I could hear you two from a mile away! Is it true Chloe’s grades are that good?"

Sophia Quinn quickly stood up to help Miss Prescott, and Ethan did the same. One on each side, they guided the older woman to a seat on the sofa.

"That’s right, Grandma. Chloe scored over 96 in every subject—even better than I did!" Ethan answered.

"I knew it! That Chloe is an incredible girl. Once she graduates from college, she’s going to make a real name for herself. She might even start her own company—one even better than the York Family’s."

Miss Prescott’s voice was firm with conviction; she truly believed Chloe could reach such heights in the future.

Ethan was surprised his grandmother had so much confidence in Chloe. To be honest, it wasn’t just her; he also believed Chloe was capable of it.

"Who knows, maybe even better than our own Prescott Family’s company!" Sophia Quinn chimed in.

"Oh, right. Mom, I need to ask you for a favor!"

"What is it? If you’re asking me to put in a good word for you with Chloe, I can tell you right now, that’s not happening. You were the one who despised her so much, who refused the marriage alliance. You want my help now? Impossible!" Sophia Quinn turned her head to the side, her expression proud and defiant.

’If I help Ethan with this, what if Chloe starts to dislike me too?’ she thought. ’After all, Ethan’s past behavior was genuinely hurtful. How can I possibly speak up for someone who hurt her?’

"That’s right, we can’t help him! It’s his own fault for not cherishing her back then. He even dragged this old bag of bones to the York Family’s home and nearly succeeded in swapping fiancées for him. Imagine the humiliation for Chloe!"

"No, on second thought, I should have helped him switch them back then. He’s not worthy of Chloe at all!"

Miss Prescott’s words stung Ethan. ’Fine, fine, I get it,’ he thought bitterly. ’Now I’m the one who’s not good enough for her.’

"Mom, Grandma, I’m not asking you to put in a good word for me. I was hoping you could ask Chloe if she has any particular universities in mind."

"And why is that? So you can try to get into the same university as her?"

Ethan nodded. That was exactly what he was planning, but Chloe refused to tell him which universities she was aiming for.

Sophia Quinn scoffed. "Let me tell you something. The fact that Chloe’s grades are improving this fast proves she was always this smart. She’s not holding back anymore, and she’s soaring. That means on the day of the college entrance exams, her score will be off the charts. You want to go to the same university? You’d better hope you can get a score as high as hers. Or rather, that your score is even good enough to meet the admission requirements for whatever school she chooses!"

Hearing what Sophia Quinn said, Ethan realized she was right. The only thing he could do was improve his own scores as well.

He had to raise them high enough to meet the admission requirements for any top university. Then, all he’d need to know was which one Chloe chose, and he could follow her there.

"Exactly! Even if you knew which university she’s going to, what’s the point if your own score doesn’t meet their admission requirements?"

Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn high-fived in mid-air. They were perfectly in sync.

"Alright, I get it. Mom, Grandma, I’ll work hard. I’ll work hard to raise my scores even higher, high enough to get into any university."

’I’m still ranked second in the whole school,’ he thought. ’Next, Chloe will probably surpass me.’

Chloe had no idea that her scoring above a 96 in every subject was causing such a stir. All she knew was that it wasn’t enough. She needed to score above a 97 in every subject to be safe.

Back in her room, Chloe took a quick, cool shower before sitting down at her desk. From her window, she could see a large, leafy tree, which was a nice break for her eyes.

Physical System: [Host, jump rope 100 times for 3 consecutive days to receive a 100% boost to your resistance. This means that for the rest of your life, you will never again suffer from colds, fevers, headaches, or any similar symptoms.]

’That sounds pretty good,’ Chloe thought. Recently, the rewards from the Physical System had all been related to health and beauty. She loved rewards that improved her well-being and appearance.

’Besides, I’m a hundred percent sure the Physical System and the Godly Rich System are connected,’ she mused. ’The Godly Rich System probably won’t be giving me any more missions that require running around to save people for a while.’

She suddenly remembered she’d already showered, and she didn’t even own a jump rope. ’The Physical System never let me postpone tasks before,’ she thought. ’It probably won’t let me push this one back either.’

But she really didn’t want to take another shower, so Chloe decided to ask anyway.

"System, I already showered tonight, and I don’t have a jump rope. Can I start tomorrow night?"

Physical System: [Of course, Host!]

’I thought the Physical System would say no,’ Chloe wondered. ’It never let me postpone tasks before. Why did it agree so easily this time?’

"You agreed? You never agreed before!"

Physical System: [This mission has a three-day time frame. Compared to previous tasks, this one is quite short, so it doesn’t matter if the Host postpones it by a day or two.]

"Oh, I see. In that case, I’ll start tomorrow!"

Physical System: [Very well, Host.]

After that, Chloe sat by the window and studied diligently. It wasn’t until past eleven that she finally closed her book, gave a long stretch, and went to bed.

In contrast, Brooke was still studying. She used to go to bed at eleven on the dot, but not anymore.

If she wanted to bring her grades up, she had no choice but to spend more time studying.
