Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 115: Scouting the Exam VenueChapter 115: Chapter 115: Scouting the Exam Venue
The day before the college entrance exams, everyone headed out to check their assigned testing locations, classrooms, and seat numbers, just as the homeroom teacher had announced in advance.
The students were all thrilled as they boarded the charter bus. After all, in their three years of high school, the entire class had never gone on an outing like this together.
"This is the first time our whole class has gone out like this. It feels pretty special."
A female student remarked, and the others voiced their agreement.
"Yeah, that’s right! This is the first time our class has done something together like this. Even though it’s just to check our exam sites, it’s still pretty exciting."
"It feels just like one of our elementary or middle school field trips, doesn’t it? The only thing we’re missing is a tour guide."
"It totally has that field trip vibe! Oh, and we’re also missing snacks."
The whole bus buzzed with youthful energy. The students chattered back and forth, their laughter and voices mingling with the sunlight streaming through the windows, making life feel full of promise.
Seeing her classmates so cheerful, Chloe York felt happy too. In her past life, her classmates hadn’t been nearly this joyful when they’d taken the bus to check their exam sites.
Back then, they had all been in their seats, heads down, buried in books and frantically cramming practice questions. The closer the exams got, the more nervous they became, desperately trying to make every second count.
"Man, the exams are tomorrow. I wonder if we’ll ever get a chance to see each other again after they’re over."
"Hey, don’t be like that! We can just organize a class reunion in a few years, can’t we? Besides, who knows? A bunch of us might test into the same university!"
"Totally! That’s definitely possible. I saw this video online where a guy got to college and realized almost half the students in his class were from his old high school."
The students latched onto the topic and chatted happily.
"Alright, alright. It’s fine to be excited, but you’re getting too loud. You’re going to distract the driver," Mr. Parker interjected. He couldn’t help but step in as he noticed the students getting more worked up and their voices growing louder.
As soon as Mr. Parker spoke, the students realized he was right. They were still on a moving bus, and the driver was up front. It wouldn’t be good if their noise distracted him.
"Oh, right. We shouldn’t be so loud and distract the driver."
"Let’s keep our voices down!"
The students lowered their voices and continued chatting quietly with their close friends.
"Chloe, time flies, doesn’t it? The exams are tomorrow!" Stella Winters sighed. ’It feels like I just started high school yesterday, and now the exams are already here. It all went by in the blink of an eye.’
"I know, right?" Chloe York had felt like she was in a dream these past few days, and she couldn’t help but feel a little wistful.
’I’m someone who’s already been through the college entrance exams once,’ she thought. ’Then I suddenly transmigrated into this world, and now I’m going through it all over again. And I have three systems, too.’
’In all the novels I’ve read, a person gets one system at most. But me? I get three. I bet it’s because I’m the ultimate overachiever.’
’So the powers that be decided to assign me extra systems, too.’
"You have to promise me, okay? Even if we don’t end up at the same school, I’ll still be your best friend. We already agreed," Stella Winters said, reminding her again. They had already had this conversation before.
But she was afraid Chloe might forget. With grades like hers, Chloe was definitely going to a good university. If she lived in the dorms, she’d be surrounded by new people. She might make other best friends and stop hanging out with her.
"Don’t worry. You’ll always be my best friend. Even if I make new friends, I’ll never forget you. But the same goes for you! You can’t make new friends and forget to keep in touch with me, okay?" Chloe York promised, reminding Stella Winters that it went both ways.
"Don’t you worry, I never would," Stella Winters vowed. She wasn’t the type to get along with just anyone. In fact, thinking back, throughout all her years of school, Chloe York was pretty much the only real friend she’d ever made.
"Wow, you two are so close. Chloe, I’m so happy for you that you have a great friend like Stella," Brooke York, who was sitting across the aisle, suddenly chimed in.
She had been shadowing Chloe York since before they even got on the bus, and as soon as she saw where Chloe sat, she immediately took a seat on the other side of the aisle.
Now, hearing their conversation, she jumped in to express her envy.
She really was envious, not faking it. She could tell that Stella Winters was a true friend to Chloe York.
Unlike Clara Bell, who only valued her for her status and approached her with ulterior motives.
If she had the choice, she would much rather have a friend like Stella Winters.
This thought only made her feel worse. ’Why is it that even after leaving the York Family, Chloe York still has a true friend like Stella Winters by her side?’
"What’s the matter? Don’t you have a friend? Or are you not satisfied with Clara? If you two get along so well, why are you envying us?" Stella Winters shot back at Brooke York, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Stella Winters’s words made Brooke York’s expression turn ugly for a split second. A moment ago, she’d been wishing for a friend like Stella; now, she just wanted to shut her up permanently.
"Clara and I are great friends, of course! We’ve even planned to go to the same university, haven’t we, Clara?" Brooke York said, linking arms with Clara Bell and acting as if they were the best of friends.
"That’s right. We’re not just going to stick together through college, we’ll be together when we start our careers, too," Clara Bell smoothly added, playing along with Brooke York.
’She couldn’t be happier to tie her fate to Brooke York’s. After all, Brooke was guaranteed to get into a good university, and her future job would obviously be at the York Group!’
’If I can follow Brooke York into the York Group, then as her best friend, what’s the difference between me and the second-in-command?’
’If Mr. York steps down someday and Brooke takes over as CEO, maybe I could even become the Vice President.’
’Of course, she had to ride Brooke York’s coattails for all they were worth.’
"My, you two really are close. I hope you stay this close forever."
"Oh, we definitely will!"
Chloe York remained silent. She knew exactly how fake Clara Bell was; she only ever befriended people who were rich or useful to her.
’The second Brooke York is no longer useful, Clara will drop her faster than anyone.’
Stella Winters had grown tired of sparring with Brooke York and her crony. She turned away, faced the window, and closed her eyes, pretending to sleep.
Chloe York closed her eyes as well, running through key concepts from her studies in her mind.
Seeing them both fall silent with their eyes closed, Brooke York decided to do some thinking of her own. She let go of Clara Bell’s arm and began to review her plan, checking for any flaws. She already knew how she was going to deal with Chloe York.
Clara Bell didn’t mind in the slightest when Brooke York let go of her arm. After all, she didn’t consider Brooke a real friend either.
