Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Speechless

"Chloe, if you had to choose between the two of them, who would you pick?" one of the girls suddenly asked. She then watched Chloe York with an expectant gaze, waiting for her answer.

This was what they were most curious about, so as soon as the girl spoke, the others also turned to Chloe York, looking at her excitedly, eager to know who she would choose.

After all, both guys were so handsome and rich. If it were them, they wouldn’t know who to choose either. So, they wanted to see who this genius top student would pick. They figured whoever she chose must be truly exceptional.

"Yeah, Chloe, who do you like?"

"The one in black is my classmate, and the one in white is a friend." With that one sentence, Chloe York explained the situation.

She wasn’t just brushing them off or misleading them. She truly had no intention of getting together with either Evan Shaw or Ethan Prescott. The only difference was that she didn’t even want to be friends with Ethan Prescott, whereas she actually did consider Evan Shaw a friend.

"So you don’t like either of them?"

The girl hadn’t expected that answer from Chloe York. After all, she thought both the guy in white and the guy in black were incredibly handsome.

Besides, it was obvious they were both very taken with Chloe York and trying hard to win her favor. The girl felt that, at the very least, Chloe must have a preference. She never imagined that she didn’t like either of them. ’As expected of the top scorer,’ she thought. ’Even guys like them can’t catch her eye.’

Chloe York shook her head. "I’m not thinking about who I like or don’t like right now. We’re all just classmates and friends."

"I get it."

"Chloe, I support you. You’re the top scorer, you have a bright future ahead of you. You really shouldn’t let romance affect your studies right now."

Chloe York nodded. That’s what she had always thought.

In the end, both Evan Shaw and Ethan Prescott took lots of photos for the group of girls. Now they could go home and take their time picking out the best ones.

After lunch, Evan Shaw took Chloe York to continue their tour of the campus. Of course, Ethan Prescott tagged along.

This time, they stayed there for three or four days before heading back.

Throughout their stay, Ethan Prescott and Evan Shaw were constantly vying for her attention, but Evan Shaw came out on top most of the time because Chloe York would only engage with him, completely ignoring Ethan Prescott.

On the day they were to return, Evan Shaw specially booked tickets back for himself and Chloe York.

He did this on purpose. Even if Ethan Prescott knew which day they were leaving, he wouldn’t know what time.

Little did he know, Ethan Prescott had someone buy a ticket for every single flight that day. No matter which flight Chloe York and Evan Shaw took, he would be able to get on.

Evan Shaw hadn’t expected Ethan Prescott to go that far, and in the end, the three of them ended up on the same plane.

At the restroom door, Ethan Prescott and Evan Shaw stood on either side.

"What’s this, Campus Prince Prescott? Don’t have to go? Or do you just enjoy standing here like a door god?"

"That’s the pot calling the kettle black. Aren’t you, Campus Prince Shaw, also standing here like a door god?"

Coming out of the restroom, Chloe York saw Ethan Prescott and Evan Shaw standing like a pair of door gods, one on the left and one on the right.

’Great,’ Chloe York thought. ’These two are definitely a little nuts.’ Evan Shaw wasn’t like this before. ’Could it be that after a few days of Ethan Prescott tagging along, some of his craziness has rubbed off on Evan?’

While Chloe York was lost in thought, both Ethan Prescott and Evan Shaw were staring at her with rapt attention.

"Chloe, you’re done!" Ethan Prescott said with a smile.

"No, I decided to finish up out here!" Chloe York retorted, rolling her eyes. ’I have no idea why Ethan Prescott would say something so stupid. If I wasn’t finished, what would I be doing out here? Putting on a show for everyone?’

Evan Shaw really couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing, while an embarrassed look appeared on Ethan Prescott’s face.

’How could I have just said something so idiotic!’

After several hours, the plane landed, and it was time for everyone to part ways and go home.

"Chloe, I’ll see you at Southbend University in September!" Evan Shaw said to Chloe York before getting into his car.

"Okay, see you at Southbend University in September!"

Chloe York got into the car she had called, and Ethan Prescott got into his own, which was his family’s car. When he saw Chloe York talking to Evan Shaw but not him, his mood soured again.

But then he remembered that he was also going to Southbend University and would still be around Chloe, and he didn’t feel so bad anymore.

When she got back to her apartment building, she had just stepped out of the car when she saw Brooke York standing there, staring up at the floors above. It was obvious she was waiting for her.

Just then, Brooke York heard the sound of the car and turned to see Chloe York about to get her suitcase.

After Chloe York took her suitcase out of the trunk, Brooke York quickly walked up to her, blocking her path.

"Let me tell you something. I’m about to go study abroad. Back when you failed to get into high school, Dad had to pull strings to stuff you in. But now that it’s my turn, his *real* daughter, he’s sending me abroad. You can’t compare to that. So go ahead and be jealous!"

Brooke York’s smugness was written all over her face.

That evening, she had looked up just how much prestige came with studying abroad. Once she came back with a foreign degree, these people wouldn’t even be in the same league as her.

"Is that so? Well, congratulations to you," Chloe York said, then tried to step around her.

"Chloe York!" Seeing that she was about to leave, Brooke York shouted in frustration and blocked her path again.

’This wasn’t the reaction she wanted to hear or see. Why was Chloe York so calm? Why wasn’t she angry? Why wasn’t she losing her mind?’

"What now?" Blocked again, Chloe York’s pleasant tone vanished. She stared at Brooke York, her face etched with impatience.

Although she had been out traveling and having fun for the past few days, it had also taken time and energy. She was exhausted now and just wanted to rest.

"Chloe York, you don’t have to pretend you don’t care. I know you do. But what does it matter? No matter how much you care, you can’t change the fact that I’m Mom and Dad’s real daughter. The one they dote on most... is ME!" Brooke York emphasized the last two words, her voice rising.

"Right, right, right. They dote on you the most. You’re their biological daughter, and I’m a nobody. Happy now?"

Chloe York was rendered speechless. ’This is something you feel, something others can see for themselves. There’s no need to stand here harping on about it.’

"Get out of my way!" Chloe York roared. Brooke York instinctively flinched to the side, clearing a path.

She hauled her suitcase upstairs, leaving Brooke York standing there alone.

The moment she returned to her own little nest, Chloe York felt her exhaustion wash away, replaced by a sense of comfort. It seemed that no matter how nice it was out there, nothing could beat her own humble den.
