Deathly Spirit Chef ( D grade Evolution ) A rare breed, the Deathly Spirit Chef cooks for both the living and the dead, specializing in spiritual dishes.
+15 Vitality +14 Willpower +14 Fortitude +9 Free Points +3 Points to each remaining Stat, totaling 18 additional points, and +500 AP per level. The class provides 70 points in total for each level.
Starter Skill: Spiritual Essence. A key component for creating spiritually transcendent meals. When activated, Spiritual Essence adds spiritual energy into a dish, transforming it to please both dead and undead alike. While Spiritual Essence can heal the soul, please note that it is not a substitute for spiritual ingredients.
Ogre Chef Extraordinaire ( D grade Evolution ) The Ogre Chef Extraordinaire is a daring culinary expert that pushes the limits of ogre cooking to new heights.
+18 Fortitude +16 Strength +14 Willpower +9 Free Points +3 Points to each remaining Stat, totaling 18 additional points. The class provides 75 points in total for each level.
Starter Skill: Umami Booger. Passively transforms the very nature of the ogre’s boogers. An ogre’s special ingredient when cooking. The flavor of an ogre’s boogers can greatly affect their cooking, and there is none as rich, and vibrant as the umami booger. Like all flavor enhancers, the Umami Booger increases the potency of boons provided by ingredients used when cooking.
Otherworldly Pitmaster ( D grade Evolution ) A master of pits and a master of meats. This otherworldly cook follows the path of the barbecue perfectionist.
+20 Vitality +16 Fortitude +16 Dexterity +10 Free Points +3 Points to each remaining Stat, totaling 18 additional points. The class provides 80 points in total for each level.
Starter Skill: Smoke Infusion. When activated, the user is able to create a special Smoke Infusion, enhancing their dishes with both aroma and delicious smoky flavor. The smoke can both enhance flavor, and be altered by wood, and energy infusions to create different effects.
Hundred Layer Chef ( D grade Evolution ) There is never enough complexity for the Hundred Layer Chef, who is a master of layering flavor profiles one after another atop each other.
+18 Dexterity +16 Willpower +16 Agility +10 Free Points +3 Points to each remaining Stat, totaling 18 additional points. The class provides 78 points in total for each level.
Starter Skill: Add Profile. When activated, Add Profile allows the Hundred Layer Chef to add additional flavor profiles atop one another without diluting the previous profile. This allows the chef to add more conflicting flavors to a single dish without losing buffing effects.
Aether Infusing Gastronomist ( D grade Evolution ) A mad tinkerer of aether, this chef infuses everything they cook with a dosage of aether, often twisting their creations into something new altogether.
+14 Willpower +14 Fortitude +14 Dexterity +10 Free Points +3 Points and +500 AP to each remaining Stat, totaling 18 additional points. The class provides 70 points in total for each level.
Starter Skill: Aether Infusion. When activated, the user is not limited by how much aether they can infuse in their cooking. WARNING! Aether infusion may have unforeseen side effects, and excessive aether can change the nature of the ingredient or meal.
Aaron carefully read over all of the options. He was getting used to evolutions, but he still wanted to take his time. And to his surprise, there were a surprisingly large number of good options.
“Damn, not bad,” he muttered.
He was used to there being more throwaways. He didn’t feel like he had done anything that special for the evolution, though. Or had he? He supposed Dober had quite enjoyed his cook-up. Perhaps he was selling himself short.
Hmm, but what to pick?
He decided to start by discarding the most obvious ones. Ogre Chef Extraordinaire didn’t sound bad, but he certainly didn’t want to start adding boogers to his cooking. As he crossed off the option, he also made a mental note never to eat anything cooked by an ogre.
They don’t all do that, do they…? Okay, moving on.
Deathly Spirit Chef sounded quite good, and was placed on his maybe list. He wasn’t actually too sure about becoming some kind of spirit chef, but if it provided a Skill that could heal the soul, that wasn’t something he could just pass up.
His soul was his weakest point, after all, at least in terms of raw power. And if he could heal it, he could potentially push himself to even greater limits.
Okay, interesting. Let’s keep going.
He paused at Otherworldly Pitmaster. Aaron liked meat, and barbecue was a favorite, so it was immediately tempting. But he wasn’t sure about the Skill it provided. Adding a smoky flavor was nice, but what did it mean by different effects? How different?
A bit vague. Not sure about that.
Hundred Layer Chef was another standout. It was easy to throw a boatload of ingredients into a dish, but if the dish only inherited the boons from some ingredients, it was a waste. Having a Skill that let his cooking take on more beneficial effects was undoubtedly powerful.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
But was it better than soul mending? Some of his dishes could boost his power by quite a bit. But Aaron didn’t necessarily rely on them, which made him pause.
As for Aether Infusing Gastronomist, it was similar to the pitmaster Profession. As in it sounded interesting, but vague. He had already infused aether into his food, and it sounded like it would let him push that to the next level. The problem was, how?
It did provide extra aether, though. Also, Stat allocations were probably more suited to his overall style. Still, if it became a decision between Aether Infusing and Spiritual Healing, then he couldn’t help but feel the ability to heal his soul edged it out.
That was no easy decision to make, though. He also found himself skeptical about Stat points. Both Spiritual and aether-related Professions came with fewer Stat points, but more aether. Was that a good trade?
There was no question that more Stat points made a big difference. But he did have a lot of Titles to boost his. And his style, at least if he kept to Yendal’s teachings, didn’t necessarily require the largest amount of Stat points.
So, was that a good reason for picking one Profession over another?
“More aether would be seriously useful. It’s harder to increase, and more versatile than the other energy sources. Also, who knows how it might help against Darius, and even the Death God?”
Aaron pondered these thoughts as he went back over the options several times.
The more he thought about it, the more Deathly Spirit Chef sounded like the best option. But he couldn’t shake the feeling that becoming a spirit chef didn’t really sit well with him. At the end of the day, though, his ability to resurrect was easily one of, if not the strongest, ability he possessed. And to empower that by gaining a Skill that could allow him to heal his soul seemed too much to turn down.
Also, he reminded himself that it was only a D-grade evolution. Even if he was a shinigami, and a spirit chef, that didn’t necessarily cement his path toward undeath.
It seemed obvious by now that the multiverse provided many means of cultivating and tempering one’s path. The decisions he made now wouldn’t set anything in stone, but would give him a powerful Skill.
How can I say no to soul healing?
Aaron sighed and accepted the prompt. He felt a rush of energy as his evolution was confirmed, and his Profession was changed from Ogre Gastronomist to Deathly Spirit Chef.
He immediately felt stronger thanks to the boon of Stats. He was a true D-grade now, both Class and Profession.
Not only that, but as he considered his new Profession and the Skill that came with it, he had gained an idea. If he could cook a bunch of dishes that would allow him to heal his soul, then they might just give him what he needed to push his true core to its limit. And if he could do that, what might the implications be while working on his mana anchors?
The thought of it made him want to rush out and find some more corrupted obelisks to train on, but first he needed to test out the new Skill.
I suppose I need to cook something first. Then, I can go find some corrupted obelisks and do some training.
Excitedly rubbing his hands, Aaron stepped outside and waved Treg over.
“Yes, boss?” Treg said as he walked over.
“A favor. I need more meat.”
“More? Most of us still can’t walk properly.”
“Don’t worry. You won’t have to eat any.”
“No, no, no!” Treg waved his hands in a panic. “Treg would love to eat some. Please, master!”
“I thought you couldn’t walk properly? Anyway, I want to do a few experimental dishes. Do you still have any?”
“Meat? We think all was cooked. But we can get more. Gobbo wolf riders know all the best spots!”
“Okay, you do that. Cheers mate. In the meantime, I might see what else I can conjure up with this new Skill.”
A pack of goblins was off, sailing across the sky on the silver mounts.
All things considered, it felt like he was moving in the right direction. But he couldn’t shake off what Ryan had shown him. And it was starting to feel like a distraction when he really didn’t need one.
Trying to shake the thought away, he opened his Status page to admire his recent gains, and smiled at how ridiculously powerful he was getting.

“Not bad. I think Darius is going to have a bad time when we meet.”
Embracing Spirit hands and toes, he filled a pot with Foul Ichor and started to add Spiritual Essence.
“Now this will be great for braising. I can already smell it.”
Aaron grinned wildly as he stirred the pot with his toe. It may have been unconventional, but he had a feeling this was going to transcend even the meat he had recently cooked.
And he felt himself getting giddy as he waited for the goblins to return, and the rich aroma filled every inch of his kitchen.
He mightn’t have followed Oozagh’s path directly, but he had a feeling that the rotund ogre god would be proud of this concoction.
Now this is soul food.
As his anticipation built, he knew that it was going to be a long wait, even if the goblins were as fast as Zero on their steeds, as his mouth was already watering.
