Chapter Two Hundred and Sixteen
The training hall doors slammed open hard enough for the sound to crack through the room.
Every movement stopped.
The recruits straightened almost instantly, heads turning toward the entrance. Even the air seemed to tighten.
Asli’s gaze snapped up sharply.
Daniel stood at the doorway.
Black shirt rolled to his elbows, expression unreadable, shoulders squared like he owned every inch of space he stepped into. His eyes swept through the room assessing.
Then they landed on her. Cole had already gone still beside her, alert.
"What are you doing here?" Cole asked before anyone else could speak.
Daniel didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he stepped further inside, boots echoing against the floor. One of the recruits moved out of his path without even realizing it.
That presence again.
The same thing that irritated Asli every time anyone walked into her territory, as if they owned it.
That was exactly what Daniel was doing. He walked into the place expecting the room to shift around him.
His gaze moved briefly to Cole before returning to her. "I heard you were training the recruits."
"And?" Her tone sharpened slightly.
The corner of his mouth lifted faintly.
"This should’ve been done in the grand hall," he said casually, glancing toward the recruits again. "That way we could’ve started selecting from the batch too."
Asli folded her arms slowly across her chest, watching him carefully now.
Beside her, Cole’s jaw tightened almost invisibly and he took a step forward, eyes locked on his twin. "Asli is a boss. Same rank as Demir. She can train wherever the hell she wants."
Daniel’s expression barely changed.
"If your boss wants men from this batch," Cole continued, his voice harder now, "then he can wait until they’re properly trained."
Daniel still looked annoyingly calm.
Cole turned sharply toward the recruits. "And you..." His voice cut through the room like a blade, "You don’t stop fighting because of a distraction!"
Movement resumed almost immediately, though rougher this time. Less focused. Everyone was listening now whether they meant to or not.
"Take it easy, Cole." Daniel’s tone stayed level.
That somehow made it worse. The muscle in Cole’s jaw ticked sharply.
Asli exhaled slowly, already feeling the beginning of a headache forming. "What do you actually want?"
Daniel’s gaze shifted to her.
"I’m here to spy on you." He responded in a whisper.
Even the recruits slowed again. Asli frowned slightly.
Of course, Demir would want eyes on her. That part wasn’t surprising. What was surprising was Daniel standing there admitting it like it was nothing.
"You’re telling us because?" she asked carefully.
"Because I wanted to." His answer came too easily.
Then his eyes slid toward Cole, something sharp passing between them.
"I hate being assigned small tasks."
Cole scoffed under his breath.
Asli stared at both of them for a second before turning on her heel. "You two. Follow me."
She didn’t wait to see if they obeyed. Usually, people did. She knew Cole definitely would but Daniel?
Daniel looked like the kind of man who listened only when he felt like it. If he was Cole’s twin then it was likely a trait they shared.
Footsteps sounded behind her.
Both of them.
She pushed open the inner room and walked in, taking her seat against the edge of the desk.
The twins remained standing. Neither looking at the other. The tension between them practically breathed.
Asli crossed one leg over the other slowly. "I want the two of you to fix whatever nonsense is happening between you."
That got their attention.
Both heads turned toward her at once.
"What?"
"No."
The answers came together, equally irritated.
Asli almost smiled.
"Are you disobeying me?" she asked, her tone sharpening deliberately.
Cole immediately went quiet.
Daniel, however, lifted a hand slightly, already opening his mouth to argue.
Her eyes met his. Cold, steady, warning him.
Whatever he had planned to say died instantly.
His hand lowered again.
Good.
She knew exactly how she looked when she wanted silence. Her father and everyone around her used to say her stare alone could make grown men rethink their decisions. Though not at him. If he were her biological father, she would’ve said it was a trait she got from him. It was easy for her to make men fear her. Right now, Daniel looked dangerously close to doing exactly that.
"I don’t care what deal you have with Demir," she said calmly. "Once you enter my territory, you follow my rules... even outside my territory."
Her gaze moved between them.
"And neither of you is leaving until you start talking like brothers instead of enemies."
Daniel scoffed softly.
Asli ignored it.
"Even if it takes a year or ten," she continued, "there has to be a first day."
Cole rubbed a hand over his face. "Since when did you become a motivational speaker?"
His voice was quiet, almost exhausted. A smile formed on his face the moment his hand fell from it.
Daniel let out a dry laugh. "You shouldn’t pretend to be anything more than boss and servant."
The room went still again.
Asli’s brow lifted slightly. "Boss and servant?"
Her gaze settled on Daniel fully now.
"Is that what you are to Demir?"
Daniel answered too quickly. "I’m more than that."
Interesting.
A faint smile touched her lips. "Well... if you come to me, you’d be family."
Cole immediately stiffened. "He’s not joining us."
Daniel’s eyes narrowed. "You think you’re better than me?"
"Enough."
The single word cut through both of them instantly.
Asli straightened slightly. "I don’t mind Daniel joining us."
Cole opened his mouth.
She raised a hand before he could speak.
"But that decision belongs to him."
Her gaze lingered on them one last time before she pushed herself off the desk and headed for the door.
Hopefully, the two of them would use the time to talk instead of glaring holes into each other.
Though honestly, she doubted it.
Back in the training hall, the recruits were still going hard. Sweat, sharp breaths, bodies colliding against mats.
Asli folded her arms, watching carefully.
They were good.
Better than expected.
They were fast learners too.
One recruit managed to counter another cleanly enough that her brow lifted slightly in approval.
Not bad.
After a while, she raised her hand. "Enough."
Everything stopped immediately.
"Freshen up," she ordered. "Be back before evening training."
"Yes, Boss."
The recruits began filing out.
One after another.
Until the massive hall emptied.
Silence settled.
Asli let out a long breath, shoulders loosening slightly as she looked around the now-empty room.
Then, suddenly a loud crash echoed from the inner room.
Followed by another.
Her eyes closed briefly.
"Of course," she muttered under her breath.
The sounds of fists meeting flesh came next.
Just as she thought.
The idiots were fighting.
