Top Tier Perversion: Dual Cultivate Secretly

Chapter 103: Northern Commander Confesses

D’Arc Manor, Copper Town.

Vanessa was working in the living room when Vincent returned.

Reports covered half the low table before her. Most were from Railguards positioned around Copper Town and the nearby villages, while Felicia stood beside the sofa arranging finished documents into a separate pile.

Vanessa looked up when the living-room doors opened.

Vincent entered with Anastasia behind him.

He smiled as he saw her.

"Long time no see, Vanessa."

Vanessa stood up to greet him.

As Vincent got close, he couldn’t help but ask, "How’s my little sister faring?"

Vanessa paused for a second and looked down at him.

She shook her head in disappointment and decided it wasn’t worth arguing about.

She opened her arms and bent down to hug him, but Vincent frowned and said, "Wait."

Vanessa stopped and wondered what was wrong.

He stepped back and pointed at her.

"Stand properly."

She wondered why but straightened nonetheless.

Vincent stood directly in front of her and then went to hug her, but realized his face was just going to get sandwiched between a forbidden place and make him appear like a pervert before the maids.

He stepped back and cleared his throat.

"Actually yeah, bend down. Let me hug you properly."

Again, Vanessa found his reaction and words really strange.

She bent without commenting on it. It was enough for Vincent to wrap both arms around her shoulders.

From the side, Anastasia wondered, ’does the young master call her little because he feels insecure about his height or is he just messing around?’

Lately, Anastasia found herself more in love with Vincent but she also found it harder to actually understand him and his thought process.

She tried not thinking too much about it and looked at what he was doing.

Vincent hugged Vanessa tightly and then gave her a kiss on the cheek, making her tremble a little and surprised.

Felicia’s eyes moved between them.

Her pleasant expression did not change, but her thoughts did.

’The young master and M’lady have gotten considerably closer.’

She remembered the night Vanessa and Vincent met. Although she didn’t see what had happened, but it did make her think,

’Did this change begin then?’

Vincent released the surprised Vanessa and asked, "Are you eating?"

Vanessa took a moment to collect herself and said, "I was about to."

"Great. Let me join you."

Lunch was moved to the dining room shortly afterward.

Vincent sat beside Vanessa rather than opposite her. Anastasia took the seat beside Vincent while Felicia joined Vanessa on the other side.

Servants brought bread, roasted vegetables, a thick meat stew and several smaller dishes. Vincent started eating almost immediately.

For a little while, nobody discussed anything serious.

It was nice.

After everything in the Valley, sitting somewhere familiar with warm food in front of him felt strangely luxurious.

Vincent finished half his stew before remembering that the world was still trying to kill everyone.

He looked toward Vanessa.

"I went pretty deep into the Highlands."

"Mm-hm." Vanessa hummed and gestured for him to continue.

"We searched a lot of it too. There are signs everywhere. Empty dens, weird movement, damaged forests, mutated animals." Vincent tore a piece of bread. "The major monster tide is coming today."

Vanessa nodded in understanding.

Vincent continued, "So don’t fight it."

Vanessa nodded again.

"Focus on anything that actually enters Copper Town. If the monsters are passing around the town, let them pass."

"Okay."

Vincent stopped chewing.

He looked at her.

Vanessa calmly continued eating.

He swallowed.

"You understood what I said, right?"

"Yes."

"The actual tide is going to be enormous."

"I understand."

Vincent narrowed his eyes.

This was suspicious.

Vanessa did not refute a single thing or comment on it. He remembered the first time they met. She had a lot of doubts and she didn’t trust him whatsoever.

The breakfast in Gold Town was also pretty serious and he had to do so much to win her.

But now... she wasn’t even asking anything or adding anything or arguing.

She just... accepted.

This really made him wonder what was happening.

"Will you actually do what I said?" He asked again.

"Yes."

Vincent stared at her.

Vanessa finally looked back.

"What?"

"...Nothing."

He slowly returned to his food.

Maybe personal growth was real.

Maybe Vanessa had suddenly become reasonable or realized she should value her only brother’s opinion some more.

Or maybe his charisma had leveled up so much that she actually trusted him and was willing to do whatever he asked.

Whatever it was, it didn’t matter as long as she actually did what he asked.

The rest of lunch remained surprisingly ordinary.

Vincent told about his recent adventures and Vanessa asked more about the Valley Kingdoms.

Vincent gave her the condensed version involving three kingdoms, thousands of animals, flooded farms and one unfortunate man named Larry losing a wooden horse.

Vanessa did not understand why the wooden horse mattered.

Vincent didn’t clarify it either.

The wooden horse was quietly held in a maid’s hand nearby.

Vincent asked her to guard it properly and to ensure nothing happened to it.

Eventually, as the lunch ended and most of the plates on the table were cleared, his expression became more serious.

"There’s something else."

Vanessa immediately noticed the change.

"What?"

"It’s about the Northern Commander."

Her spoon stopped.

Vincent leaned back.

"I want him interrogated. Are you good at doing it because I don’t think I can make him open his mouth."

Vincent knew his shortcomings from the interrogation scenes he watched in movies. He thought people could be stubborn and a real handful.

He might have the strength to kill the Northern Commander and threaten him with his life, but what if that dude still didn’t wish to open his mouth? He’d die and Vincent would get nothing other than blood on his hands.

Vanessa thought about this matter and then asked, "Do you think he’s the traitor?"

The Knight Order was suspended and she knew of the entire matter.

Vincent hesitated for a second. He couldn’t possibly tell her that this dude had already killed him and would definitely do it again.

She might go crazy and do things even he couldn’t guess what they would be.

Vincent remained silent for another moment.

Anastasia was looking at him too, wondering what he would say to cover things up.

"I believe," Vincent finally said, "that dude doesn’t have good intentions. Maybe he really is the spy but I’m not sure and that’s why we need to interrogate him and understand. He’s not a good person though, you can be assured of that. I would’ve killed him personally for just suspicion but then, what if he knows something useful?"

Vanessa felt it made sense. It didn’t matter to her whether the Northern Commander was a good or a bad person. If he was a traitor or if there were any signs that he was, she would execute him.

House D’Arc’s only demand was absolute loyalty. If the people couldn’t even fulfill that, then they didn’t deserve to be under them.

Vanessa turned to Felicia seated beside. "Can you handle it?"

Felicia smiled lightly.

"I’ll speak with him, M’lady."

Eventually, they all got up and went to the living room while the Northern Commander was summoned from the highlands to this manor.

He arrived under the impression that the reconnaissance command was being reorganized.

Felicia spoke with him privately in a receiving room.

The conversation itself did not last long.

When Vincent saw the Northern Commander again, his face was deathly pale. His uniform remained untouched and there wasn’t a single injury on him, but he looked like someone on their deathbed.

Felicia placed a written statement before Vincent.

"Duke Brunelle instructed him to observe you, young master."

A flicker of surprise flashed in Vincent’s eyes.

’That dude?’

Vanessa frowned and she was about to stand up and execute him on the spot when Vincent held her wrist and shook his head.

The Northern Commander trembled and lowered his head.

"Let me go, Vin."

Vincent shook his head again. "Sit down, Vanessa. It’s not the right time."

Who knows how much karma she would accumulate and how much it would come to bite her back when the karmic dominion was activated.

Vanessa knitted her brows. She didn’t listen and broke free from Vincent’s hold, about to execute the man.

Traitors do not deserve to breathe in the same space as her family!

Vincent immediately rushed to hold her hand again and said, "Look, If you don’t listen to me, I’ll stop being nice, okay?"

Vincent thought these words were too soft and may not be enough, so he added, "I’ll go back to how I was before if you really don’t listen!"

Vanessa was visibly shaken at this.

Vincent meant he would become an alcoholic and wastrel, but Vanessa thought about something else.

’He said he’ll go back to how he was before? This means he’ll be cold to me again and not care about me again?’

She felt it wasn’t right.

’No. Maybe he meant he will go back to just having a normal sibling relationship like before? Maybe he won’t pursue me if I don’t listen now?’

Vanessa frowned harder.

’Now that I think about it... a wife who doesn’t listen to her husband... who would like such a wife? I think it’s partly my fault that I’m doing something he doesn’t wish for me to do, making him resentful and doubt me as his future wife.’

Vanessa was visibly shocked by the understanding.

’I was being obedient before and he seemed surprised but he didn’t say something so awful. Now that I’m not being obedient...’

Vanessa finally understood that her future with her little brother was at stake if she didn’t obey him now.

Many strange thoughts that shouldn’t appear in a young lady’s head went through her head. She eventually realized none of those might happen if she disobeyed him now.

She stopped trying to kill the Northern Commander and said with a little sigh, "I’m stopping now just for you. But don’t put me in such a difficult position again."

Vincent interlocked his fingers with hers and nodded. "Thank you for listening. I won’t."

He then went to grab the written letter and read it.

Changes in behavior.

Military relationships.

Capabilities.

Movements.

Weaknesses.

Anything unusual was to be reported directly.

Vincent read the list twice.

So Brunelle really had put someone around him.

The man who had eventually stabbed Vincent through the heart hadn’t simply happened to be there.

Vincent raised his eyes toward the Commander.

"Did Brunelle tell you to kill me?"

"No, Your Lordship."

The answer came immediately.

Vincent decided to believe him. If he had killed him when karma wasn’t so volatile then he would’ve not believed him, but maybe he really didn’t plan to kill and did so because of volatile karma?

Whatever it was, Vincent now had solid proof that Duke Brunelle was really an enemy.

’I won’t make you wait for long, don’t worry.’ Vincent thought and handed the letter to Vanessa.

Suspicion alone was enough for Vincent to move. Previously he had nothing other than Anastasia’s words, and Duke Brunelle hadn’t done anything suspicious or noteworthy to antagonize House D’Arc so Vincent was quiet.

Vincent also didn’t have much time to focus on him, but now he knew he really was an enemy.

He was going to return everything to him tenfold without fail.

"Put him somewhere secure until further notice," Vincent said.

Felicia handled the matter and the Northern Commander was gone.

Vincent then turned to Vanessa and said, "Please be calm and don’t go to kill him. It’s really not worth it as of this moment."

"I understand," Vanessa didn’t argue and nodded.

Vincent nodded back, then adjusted his coat and looked outside.

The sun was overhead and descending slowly.

"You should send your telegram early today."

Vanessa raised an eyebrow.

"You probably won’t have time once the monsters arrive."

Vincent continued, "Tell mom I’m fine. Wish her a pleasant evening for me too."

He thought for a moment, then added.

"And tell her I love her."

Vanessa stared at him.

’You see mom in such a way too!?’ She couldn’t help but think.

"What?"

"Nothing." Vanessa decided now wasn’t the right time to pursue this matter. It will have to wait until the said monster tide was gone.

Vincent didn’t know what she was thinking but he had to go now.

He stepped forward and hugged her again.

Vanessa barely had time to respond before he kissed her cheek.

"I’ll see you later. Bye, love you."

He released her and headed toward the doors.

Anastasia followed after him.

Vanessa remained standing in the entrance hall, dumbfounded but also fascinated by the gesture.

Felicia returned just in time to see her quietly touch the cheek Vincent had kissed.

’A second kiss in a day... is it a reward for listening to him or did he just want to kiss me because his sister complex is getting more intense?’

Vanessa couldn’t exactly figure out.

’Whatever it is, little brother you need to be more mindful of people around us. They’ll think it’s scandalous even though your love for me is pure.’

Vanessa shook her head and slashed her hand at the side, summoning her spear from her space ring.

The expression turned serious and battle-ready, completely different from how it looked when she would stare at Vincent.

"Let’s get going, Felicia."

"As you command, M’lady."

The two left the manor to do their assigned tasks.

Outside, Vincent boarded a carriage and left for the highlands.

Somewhere inside the Highlands was the thing making every monster flee.

He only had time until dusk and was in a serious rush now.
