Top Tier Perversion: Dual Cultivate Secretly
Chapter 107: Nowhere to DodgeVincent hit the ground hard and groaned, feeling a splitting headache.
There was a loud ringing in his ears, and his vision dimmed around the edges. Even breathing hurt enough that he took smaller breaths.
He slowly pushed against the ground while looking around. Anastasia was a few meters away, getting back to her feet, while a gigantic dark wall stood farther behind them and disappeared outside his half-dim vision.
Turning his gaze in the Belt’s other direction, he saw Celeste lowering herself into a lotus position.
His eyes widened in shock and he quickly grabbed the Belt with both hands and pulled her upper body sideways. The Belt shortened and Celeste was forced to take a side step before she could properly sit.
Anastasia quickly got up and rushed at her again.
Vincent shortened the Belt’s distance between them as Anastasia’s sword struck Celeste’s forearm with a loud clang.
She stepped back and immediately tried to reproduce the same attack, but Celeste had already understood how Palimpsest worked and didn’t allow her to return to the same position.
She moved closer instead and pulled the Belt at the same time.
Anastasia’s footing changed. Her repeat was ruined, and a palm that could’ve been avoided struck her waist before she could recover, sending her flying.
Vincent felt a sharp tug and got dragged along.
"Argh..."
The numbing pain was present in his feet, chest, forehead, and almost everywhere else now. Blood dripped into his eyes and made him wipe it with his sleeve.
’I need to do something. Anastasia is at her end now.’
He didn’t know how much energy Celeste had in the tank, but he and Anastasia were fully exhausted.
Vincent checked the System and saw that both Fate Resonances were still active.
He picked up his fallen axe and held it between both hands, staring at Celeste through a half red and half dim vision.
Celeste’s attention went toward him for a second before she suddenly felt something wrong and turned.
Vincent followed her gaze and saw Anastasia taking a familiar side step.
His expression changed.
He remembered that step.
’She’s doing it again?’
Anastasia held her sword beside herself.
Celeste’s pupils shrank to a needlepoint.
"No, you won’t!"
She rushed toward Anastasia.
Vincent willed the Belt to shorten and pulled Celeste a few steps sideways.
The first Severing Sky had destroyed Celeste’s Transcendent treasure, but it had almost destroyed Anastasia’s current body as well. Since then, she had fought continuously and used Palimpsest many more times.
She couldn’t afford another attack like this.
But if she was using it anyway, then Anastasia had no intention of fighting afterward.
Either Celeste fell now or she would have nothing left.
Vincent’s hands tightened around the axe.
If Celeste survived in a condition where she could still fight, Anastasia would die.
’Fuck that.’
Vincent forced himself onto his feet.
His injured leg shook badly and almost gave away. His vision dimmed further, but he waited until he could make out Celeste and Anastasia clearly enough again.
’It’s kill or be killed now!’
He willed the Fate Resonance’s powers to their maximum capacity.
Strength surged through his damaged body.
Adversity Ascension responded strongly to his current condition. He was exhausted, badly injured, outmatched, and one failed attack away from possibly watching Anastasia die.
The Ability gave him strength.
It did not fix anything that was already broken.
Pain shot through his forearm as his fingers tightened around the axe, and something in his chest hurt even more when Vincent recalled the Martial Memory.
A tiny cultivator before a behemoth of a mountain.
Vincent held the axe in a familiar grip and loosened his shoulders.
"Returning Heaven Sword Art."
Anastasia stepped forward in an almost perfect motion.
Celeste immediately stopped trying to reach her.
She had already seen this technique once.
She also knew Anastasia needed to retrace the previous attack perfectly and couldn’t suddenly change her hands, legs or the direction of the sword after starting it.
So she didn’t try to block.
Celeste quickly stepped backward and diagonally away from Severing Sky’s path.
Vincent saw her escaping and wasted no time.
"Mountain Slash!"
He shouted and swung his axe.
The same movement he had performed before was reproduced through Martial Memory and Palimpsest.
[Perfect retrace detected.]
[Palimpsest amplification: 10×.]
A thin white line crossed toward Celeste.
Her expression changed and she immediately moved again, avoiding it by such a small distance that part of her purple robes was cut open without the attack ever touching her body.
The Mountain Slash continued.
CRACK—!
The stone behind Celeste split open. A deep cut travelled across the ground and reached the gigantic dark wall she had been retreating toward.
The white line struck it.
A strange metallic sound resounded.
Vincent saw cracks spread across one small section of the dark surface before a piece broke away.
’What the—’
The wall moved.
A deep vibration travelled through the ground.
Celeste was already too close.
Something massive shifted beside her and pushed against her body. The movement itself wasn’t fast, but the dark object was thicker than the trees around them and it threw Celeste several feet forward.
Right back toward Anastasia.
Celeste immediately tried correcting her footing.
There was nowhere left to go.
Mountain Slash had closed one direction.
The enormous dark wall had suddenly taken away the other.
An otherworldly pressure descended.
"Nooo—!"
"Fourth Form: Severing Sky!"
Anastasia shouted loudly as her sword traced an arc from the bottom toward the sky.
Celeste could not avoid it anymore.
Her body immediately folded inward. Her chin lowered while both forearms crossed over her head and throat. She pulled her knees closer toward her chest and turned her shoulders, protecting her head, neck, chest and other vital areas with as much bone and muscle as possible.
Even as a Transcendent cultivator she would not survive this if she didn’t protect herself!
BOOM—!
Severing Sky struck her crossed arms first.
Crack!
The bones fractured under the impact and both arms were forced against her body.
More cracking sounds followed.
Her shoulder.
Her ribs.
Celeste’s entire curled body was sent flying backward and slammed against the gigantic dark surface. A jagged edge from the part Vincent had broken dug into her back and blood sprayed from her mouth.
The rest of Severing Sky continued upward.
Trees were cut apart.
A section of stone farther behind them split.
Branches and rocks were thrown high into the air before eventually beginning to fall back down.
Celeste slipped from the black wall and hit the ground with a soft thud.
Her body remained curled.
Blood slowly spread beneath her.
Vincent breathed heavily and watched.
She didn’t move.
The same hundredfold attack that had broken her Transcendent defensive treasure had just struck her actual body without anything protecting her other than her own cultivation and the way she curled up.
She was still breathing, although barely, and didn’t show any signs of getting up.
Vincent’s fingers finally loosened around the axe.
His hands and legs had become so numb that he could barely feel them anymore.
He fell to his knees, but still didn’t let himself completely collapse.
Vincent gritted his teeth and turned toward Anastasia.
She was on her knees as well, supporting herself with her sword lodged into the ground. Blood ran from her nose and the corner of her mouth while her sword hand trembled uncontrollably.
At least she was conscious.
Rocks and branches began falling from above.
A few pieces struck the ground nearby. Several smaller stones hit Anastasia while a branch came down and snapped against Vincent’s back.
’Son of a bitch!’
