[A/N: In the first Chapter under Anastasia’s system profile it was written as "Fourth Iteration Survivor". This means she survived in her fourth iteration which isn’t true otherwise how could she have come to her fifth? I fixed this line. It’s written as: "in her Fifth Iteration". Thank you for your understanding.]

Outside, the sky had turned amber while the workers inside Gold Town’s administrative building continued going through the last reports of the day.

Vincent sat at the round table with a pen in hand.

It was time to send his daily telegram home.

He remembered exactly what he had written during the previous iteration, and there was little reason to change it. The same jokes, complaints, request for Vanessa’s assistance, and gratitude toward his mother eventually filled the page.

There was only one addition.

After asking Vivienne to send an axe with Vanessa, Vincent added another few lines.

"Also, please make the axe a little sturdier.

Something that won’t break in case I actually split a mountain with it.

I’m not planning on splitting one right now, but you never know."

Vincent stared at the last sentence for a moment.

’Reasonable precaution.’

He finished the rest exactly as he remembered, signed the telegram with his usual declaration of love, and handed it to Anastasia.

She quietly went to the telegraph machines and began transmitting it.

Click.

Click.

Click.

Vincent watched her from the table.

Unlike the previous iteration, Anastasia did not pause over his strange way of writing letters.

She had already read this one before.

...

D’Arc Mansion, the Capital.

Vivienne sat behind her desk while Linda stood nearby with several reports in hand.

A freshly received telegram rested before her.

Vivienne had already gone through most of Vincent’s lengthy message and reached the additional request near the middle.

Her blue eyes remained on the paper.

"A sturdier axe..."

Linda looked toward her.

"The young master wishes to learn?"

"He wishes to split mountains."

There was a brief silence.

Vivienne calmly continued reading.

"He also claims he is not planning to do so immediately."

Linda understood.

"I will have an appropriate weapon prepared."

"Do not send anything excessively heavy." Vivienne placed the telegram down. "He still needs to lift it."

"Yes, Madam."

Vivienne grabbed the next report and added, "Pick something reinforced enough to survive his strange ambitions. Leona can improve it later if necessary."

Linda bowed lightly.

"I’ll arrange it."

...

Late at night, most of Gold Town’s administrative building had finally gone quiet.

A few telegraph machines continued clicking in the distance while the night shift worked beneath dim lamps.

Three bedrolls rested together in one corner of the main hall.

Leona slept on Vincent’s right.

Anastasia had somehow ended up much closer.

She was facing him with one arm wrapped around his waist and her head resting below his chin. Vincent had initially assumed she was asleep, but after what happened upstairs earlier, he wasn’t going to complain even if she was secretly awake.

He lowered his gaze toward her blonde hair.

’System, show me Anastasia’s profile.’

A familiar panel appeared.

+

[Name: Anastasia]

[Cultivation: Crest Formation(Tarnished)]

[Lineage: Human]

[Role: Regressor / Maid]

[Affiliation: House of D’Arc]

[Relationship: Lover / Master-Servant(Personal)]

[Entanglement: Deep Entanglement(Stable)]

[Traits]

– Palimpsest Soul

→ Actions, experiences, wounds, and changes leave metaphysical inscriptions upon the subject

→ Repeated inscriptions accumulate meaning and become increasingly capable of influencing reality

– Iteration Memory

→ Experiences belonging to previous iterations remain engraved upon the subject which can be repeated with 100% accuracy

[Abilities]

– Reinscription

→ Repeating a previously performed action along the same path allows the present action to overlap with its existing inscription

→ A recently performed action may reach up to ten times its original effect when perfectly retraced

→ An action previously inscribed upon the same target during past iterations may reach up to one hundred times its original effect

– Accumulated Meaning

→ Repeatedly performing, reinscribing, and altering the same action likely extracts corresponding meaning from the Dao

→ The deeper an inscription becomes, the greater its influence upon the physical and metaphysical world

– Regression???

[System Note]

– A regressor acting as the maid of Vincent D’Arc

– Detected anomaly: repeated survival across multiple worldline resets.

– Physical state: pure and untainted, stable

– Emotional state: relieved, content

– Current classification: in her "Sixth Iteration"

[Live Feed]

– Cuddling with the Host

+

Vincent’s eyes paused upon the system note.

’Sixth iteration...’

A small sigh escaped through his nose.

Anastasia had gone from her fifth to her sixth in such a short period of time.

He did not like that.

His attention moved upward again.

The system no longer described their relationship simply as master and servant. It now listed her as his lover too.

Deep Entanglement had also remained intact despite the entire world regressing.

He did not know how it worked, so checking Leona’s would answer whether it’s just Anastasia’s entanglement or Leona’s too that has remained the same.

Though, he had a feeling that it was just Anastasia.

Vincent shifted his gaze toward Leona.

She slept on her side with silver hair spread loosely across the pillow beneath her head.

’Show me Leona’s profile.’

+

[Name: Leona Voss]

[Cultivation: Vein Awakening(Refined)]

[Lineage: Human]

[Role: Blacksmith]

[Affiliation: House of Voss]

[Relationship: Fiancée]

[Entanglement: Bound Link(Stable)]

[Traits]

– Forge Sight

→ Possesses an abnormal perception toward materials, structures, crafted objects, and their internal composition

→ Can instinctively recognize impurities, structural flaws, points of failure, and latent potential that ordinary smiths would require extensive testing to discover

→ Greater understanding of a material allows the subject to perceive more of the forms and purposes it is capable of becoming

– Tempered Perception

→ Possesses an innate sensitivity toward inconsistencies between words, intent, behavior, and observable reality

→ Falsehoods and contradictions produce a sensation similar to discovering an impurity inside otherwise uniform material

→ Almost accurate lie detection due to such innate perception

[Abilities]

– Forged Purpose

→ Allows the subject to gradually impose a clearly understood purpose upon something she personally forges

→ The forging process may redirect a material’s existing strengths, weaknesses, structure, and imperfections toward fulfilling that purpose

→ The ability cannot create properties entirely absent from the material and remains limited by the subject’s cultivation, comprehension, craftsmanship, and available materials

[System Note]

– A smithing fanatic who likes a lunatic

– Detected anomaly: Awakened Origin Path (Forge-type)

– Emotional state: dreaming

– Physical state: Untainted, stable.

– Beware of lying to her.

[Live Feed]

– Sleeping beside the luna—host.

+

"..."

’Do I look like a lunatic to you?’

[...]

The system used its right to remain silent.

Vincent clicked his tongue and didn’t press further.

’Leona was at a higher entanglement than this, I think. Nonetheless, it’s confirmed. Only Entanglement with Anastasia will be the same. I need to work harder to improve it again with others.’

Vincent then started remembering what happened during the days ahead.

Leona was still only at the Refined stage of Vein Awakening, but her cultivation would improve rapidly during their stay in the Capital.

He could not simply drag everyone toward Copper Town several days early and assume nothing important would change.

’Then I need to prepare Copper Town without going there myself.’

That was a problem for tomorrow.

Vincent remembered the unopened reward.

’System, open the monster rat reward.’

+

[Anchor Destabilization Reward(F)]

[Reward: Roll x1]

[Begin Roll?]

+

’Roll.’

Items and abilities moved past too quickly for him to read until the rolling gradually slowed.

[Ding!]

[Obtained Skill: Karmic Thread Perception]

[Karmic Thread Perception]

[Red Thread: The Host owes the connected subject.]

[Blue Thread: The connected subject owes the Host.]

Vincent waited.

Nothing else appeared.

’That’s all?’

[Yes. It’s an F rank ability, that’s all it does.]

’Wow...’

’So does zero karma have anything to do with this?’

[Affirmative.]

[If there’s no threads coming in or going out of Host, it means zero karma.]

’And neutral karma?’

[The Host possesses neutral karma when no karmic obligations remain.]

A second line appeared after a brief pause.

[An equilibrium between red and blue karmic obligations may not also result in karmic neutrality.]

Vincent simplified it in his head.

’So like, no strings is the only way? Equal red and blue doesn’t neutralize it?’

[Yes. No strings mean zero or neutral karma. An equal amount of red and blue strings do not mean neutral karma.]

[Fun fact: Host died in the past iteration due to the presence of karma. Memory #9 had warned the Host of remaining karmically neutral but the Host had failed to do so, resulting in death in the fifth iteration.]

’Shit. Is this what that old man meant by more authority fate granting, more control fate gaining over me bullshit?’

[Indeed. It is not ’bullshit’ but Host being controlled by Fate.]

Vincent thought the explanation was over but the system was surprisingly helpful today and continued speaking and writing.

[The system selected Host’s soul as it was karmically neutral. The first day of transmigration was karmically neutral but with the days to come, the Host’s karma became positive.]

[It doesn’t matter to Fate if it’s positive or negative karma. As long as it’s karma, it will bound the Host with Fate, which will lead toward a predetermined Destiny.]

[In case of Host, more correctly Vincent D’Arc — the Destiny is death.]

’What? But didn’t I destabilize this anchor?’

[The destabilization meant that particular event would not happen again. In simpler terms, the host won’t die from the same poison that happened on that day. However, if the Host was given the same poison on a different occasion, death is inevitable.]

[To escape this Destiny, being karmically neutral is the only solution.]

Vincent went through the messages and did not comment. He tried to understand them to the best of his ability.

A few moments later, he asked, ’So like, if I do good deeds and gain good karma, it isn’t going to help me evade my death?’

[Good deeds or bad deeds are not what defines karma.]

[At least in this universe.]

[It is either positive or negative karma.]

[Positive karma means the world owes to the Host.]

[Negative karma means the Host owes to the world.]

[Of course, by world, the system does not mean the actual world, but the many subjects with whom karma can be formed.]

Vincent had a little trouble understanding.

As if knowing the level of comprehension he possessed, the system sent another message.

[Activate the skill, Host. You’ll understand it better.]

’Alright.’

Vincent excelled more in practicals than theoretical stuff.

He activated the skill.

Thin threads gradually became visible around him.

One red thread connected directly to Anastasia.

Another disappeared through the building in the direction of the Capital.

A third red thread extended elsewhere into the distance.

Vincent could not tell where it ended.

There were far more blue threads.

One connected him to Leona while many others passed through the walls and continued beyond Gold Town.

’So a lot of people owe me.’

[Correct. The Host is karmically positive currently.]

’I see. I get it now...’

Vincent looked at the red thread connected to Anastasia for another moment before dismissing the ability.

He did not need the system to explain this one.

He understood what karma was today.

...

Morning arrived quietly.

Breakfast proceeded almost exactly as Vincent remembered.

Leona and Anastasia sat beside him while clerks changed shifts and the morning telegraphs began arriving.

Then Vanessa entered the hall.

She carried a spear in one hand and rested an axe upon her shoulder.

Vincent noticed the weapon first.

The broad blade had a black metallic sheen and looked considerably thicker than the previous axe. Its reinforced handle lacked unnecessary decoration, giving the entire weapon a rough and violent appearance.

It looked sturdy without Vincent even touching it.

"Your axe."

Vincent smiled.

"Good morning to you too, Vanessa."

As she approached, he quietly activated Karmic Thread Perception.

The unidentified red thread from last night appeared again.

This time, its other end was standing directly before him.

’So it’s Vanessa. Makes sense. She protected me from assassins.’

Vincent then glanced toward the direction of the Capital.

’The other is probably from mom.’

’So basically...’

Anastasia, Vanessa, and his mother.

Those were the three people he currently owed.

He dismissed the threads before Vanessa could notice him staring strangely.

Breakfast continued almost exactly as before. Vincent accepted the axe, thanked Vanessa, suffered through the same berry jam, and allowed the conversation regarding Silver Town to proceed without unnecessary changes.

There was no reason to disturb what had already worked.

A few hours later, they departed.

...

Silver Town was already liberated when they arrived.

The bandits were dead, the residents were alive, and the same horrifying sacks of dismembered corpses waited in the town square.

Vanessa and Felicia investigated the bodies while Anastasia questioned the townspeople.

The same strange details surfaced.

The bandits had treated the residents unusually well.

They had been expecting reinforcements.

They had killed themselves before House D’Arc arrived.

Vincent allowed the investigation to follow the same course.

He got the Royal Court summon and news of rat infestation already, so after the interrogations in Silver Town, he made the same decision as before.

They travelled to Copper Town.

After bathing and eating dinner, Vincent sat at the table with Vanessa opposite him while Anastasia and Leona remained at his sides.

Felicia reminded Vanessa about the daily telegram.

Paper and pens were brought.

Vincent wrote the same message home, including his complaints about everyone dying, Vanessa behaving several years older despite sharing his birthday, the Royal Court, the rats, and the unfair height difference between himself and every woman surrounding him.

Near the end, his pen slowed.

He remembered what came next.

Vincent turned slightly toward Anastasia and tapped the empty space beneath the final paragraph.

He did not need to say anything.

Anastasia knew exactly what he meant.

Aldorp.

She looked at the empty space and slowly shook her head.

"I won’t be going anymore, young master."

Vincent studied her expression for a second before nodding.

"Alright."

He did not write the request.

The rest of the telegram remained unchanged.

...

Later, Vincent sat in his bedroom with Anastasia and Leona.

A pot of chamomile tea rested nearby while the three quietly discussed the events of Silver Town.

Vincent already knew where the conversation would eventually lead, but hearing Leona and Anastasia discuss Duke Brunelle again reminded him that knowing the future did not automatically give him answers.

There were still things even the erased timeline had never explained.

A knock came from the door.

Anastasia answered it and returned with a letter from the Capital.

Vincent read enough to confirm what he already expected.

He folded the letter and placed it beside his tea.

"Anastasia, pack our things."

She immediately understood.

"We’re leaving for the Capital?"

Vincent nodded.

"Yes. As fast as possible."

Anastasia nodded and went to work.

Leona placed her teacup down and began gathering the papers they would need.

Vincent remained seated for another moment.

There was one thing he needed to do before leaving Copper Town.

He stood up and walked into the corridor and stopped before Vanessa’s room.

The previous conversation surfaced clearly in his memory.

He remembered apologizing.

He remembered hugging her.

He also remembered loosening his arms almost immediately and practically fleeing before she could react.

Vincent took a slow breath.

’This time, I won’t run away after hugging her...’

He raised his hand and knocked.

"Vanessa, it’s me."
