Chapter 2273: Chapter 2308: Jeang Tianlin Is Dead
Crimson Flame shot out fiercely, unleashing Heaven and Earth’s Momentum to suppress the Divine Mountain mice’s potential, killing six or seven experts who had been bitten by the mice and turned into poisoned people. When a young man saw Crimson Flame kill a poisoned person, he immediately shouted, "Uncle! Don’t kill my uncle."
"That’s not your uncle anymore!"
Ding Fan glanced at him coldly and said flatly, "Your uncle has long been dead. This is someone who has been poisoned by mice. If you don’t kill him, he’ll kill more people."
The young man saw Crimson Flame slice his uncle in half, and his body crumbled as he knelt on the ground crying bitterly.
Several other relatives of the poisoned people who were killed were also filled with pain. Ding Fan’s heart, however, did not undergo much fluctuation, as he recalled a long time ago the words of a martial artist: death is the ultimate form of a martial artist, entering the path of cultivation requires a consciousness of death.
"Let’s go!"
After confirming there was no one left, Ding Fan waved his hand and led over a dozen people, moving forward spectacularly. Sirius’s body emanated a mysterious oppressive force, suppressing those mice, and the mice were too scared to move.
Ding Fan previously didn’t want Sirius to be exposed in front of everyone, but now to save people, he no longer cared. Jeang Tianlin was the only one capable of robbing Sirius; through his interactions, Ding Fan felt Jeang Tianlin wasn’t that kind of person. Now he had yet to meet Jeang Tianlin, so he was focusing only on saving more people, no longer concerning himself much with this matter.
Now with over a dozen people, the speed naturally slowed down. Along the way, they often encountered Divine Mountain mice, but with Sirius there, everything was fine; those mice dared not chase and kill.
Thus, stopping and going along the way, rescuing people, they reached a group of over fifty by nightfall. Ding Fan also encountered members of Bai Hui’s clan; those two young masters didn’t die, but their group was only half remaining. This showed the tragic state of the war.
Along the road, pits continually erupted; luckily, those pits didn’t erupt near them.
In many places along the road, you could see Purple Glowing Stones and Soul Crystals, but no one dared to pick them up. Now Ding Fan was their only lifeline, and no one dared to leave him.
Zhong Zhiyong, however, didn’t care about these; as long as he saw Purple Glowing Stones and Soul Crystals, he immediately collected them. It seemed during this time, he ought to have a nice haul.
"Let’s find a place to rest."
The sky was soon to darken. With Sirius suppressing those Divine Mountain mice, there was no need to worry about further attacks. The group was already exhausted, and Ding Fan decided to let everyone rest here for the night.
They found a mountain nearby, with tents already gone, so they simply lay down at the mountain’s foot. Most people had Space Rings storing dry rations and water, which they distributed to those without, and everyone ate quietly.
Ding Fan rested on a stone with his eyes closed, Sirius curled up in his arms, Zhong Zhiyong kept watch, and Crimson Flame closed his eyes to rest for a while.
The sky soon dimmed; tonight, the clouds shrouded Luoshen Mountain, and the silence around was fear-inducing. People’s hearts were pressed almost beyond breathing; it was too hot, as if rain was imminent.
"Boom..."
Half an hour later, a huge lightning bolt illuminated the night sky, followed by thunder, awakening the sleeping Ding Fan.
"It’s going to rain heavily."
Ding Fan murmured but didn’t use tents or dig mountain caves. Tents couldn’t withstand the storm, and they’d quickly become soaked, as for digging a cave, what if there was a sky pit eruption in it? At that time, this group couldn’t possibly escape, so getting a little wet was actually safer.
"Crack~!"
After a while, with the sound of thunder, rain poured down heavily, painfully hitting everyone’s faces. The sky had lightning and thunder, along with strong winds, and distant purple light shot straight into the sky, brilliantly radiant, likely making it impossible for anyone to sleep tonight.
"Ah, Commander~~"
At this time, a terrifying shout came from the east, loud and filled with endless sorrow and anger. Although it should be some distance from here, people could still hear it clearly.
"Commander? Jeang Tianlin?"
Ding Fan and Crimson Flame exchanged glances, their eyes narrowing; listening to that man’s roar, it might be a powerful Divine Realm Sixth Level Expert. Spirit Dragon Hall’s Divine Realm Sixth Level Experts numbered only three here. Such a tragic cry for the commander; could it be that Jeang Tianlin was dead?
"Quick, let’s go take a look."
Ding Fan immediately stood up, wanting to take Zhong Zhiyong to look, but then reconsidered, thinking if they left, what would happen if this group encountered Divine Mountain mice?
Zhong Zhiyong pondered for a moment, then loudly shouted, "Everyone follow us."
No one dared oppose; if they left Ding Fan and his three servants now, they’d all end up dead. So, no one dared to defy Zhong Zhiyong’s orders. In the pitch-black night, they braved the storm, rushing toward the east.
"Boom boom..."
After running for nearly twenty minutes, an explosion erupted in the east. Ding Fan and the others immediately quickened their pace. After climbing up a small hill, the sky flickered with thunder and lightning, illuminating the valley ahead. Ding Fan and the others clearly saw the figures in the distance.
There weren’t many people there, only nine. Eight were battling the Divine Mountain Rats, surrounded by many corpses. Behind them, a girl in a red dress was kneeling on the ground, holding a corpse and weeping.
"Ling Wanru!"
Ding Fan recognized her instantly, but after the lightning passed, darkness swallowed the front. Ding Fan waved his hand and led a group toward that direction. As he approached, a peal of thunder once again illuminated the scene ahead, revealing the entirety of the scene to Ding Fan and the others.
In front was Ling Gang, a Sixth Level Expert from the Spirit Dragon Hall’s Divine Realm. He was fighting fiercely with Ling Hong and the remaining Fifth Level Experts. There were nearly ninety Divine Mountain Rats. Around thirty rat corpses lay nearby, along with several bodies of Spirit Dragon Hall experts.
Ling Wanru knelt on the ground, wearing a red dress. Her dress was torn on the left side, revealing a snow-white leg, but she seemed oblivious to it.
In her arms was Jeang Tianlin’s corpse. At this moment, Jeang Tianlin had ceased breathing. Ling Wanru, with eyes closed, wore an expression of indescribable pain. Tears streamed continuously from her eyes, merging with the rain into a line flowing down.
Her body trembled, her hands quivered, and her mouth repeatedly mumbled: "Grandfather, grandfather, Ling Wanru was wrong, I was wrong! Please wake up, wake up. I won’t act out anymore. As long as you wake up, I’ll listen to you, I’ll listen to everything you say. Please wake up, wake up..."
After calling out a few times, perhaps realizing Jeang Tianlin wasn’t reacting, Ling Wanru raised her hands toward the sky, screaming madly: "Damn heavens, why do you treat me like this, why~"
Jeang Tianlin truly was dead!
He wasn’t killed by the Divine Mountain Rats; he committed suicide.
To protect Ling Wanru, he was bitten by a rat. When he realized he couldn’t resist the rat poison, he directly self-destructed his soul and died just like that.
The six bodies left at the scene were all poisoned. Two were killed by Jeang Tianlin, and the remaining four committed suicide, opting for the dire choice of soul self-destruction. They preferred death over becoming poisoned humans, walking corpses that could harm their own people.
Ling Wanru had been fighting too, and perhaps due to her frequent use of warrior heritage, her soul was on the verge of collapse. Jeang Tianlin prohibited her from acting further.
Jeang Tianlin had protected Ling Wanru all the way. Just now, to prevent her from being bitten by the rats, he blocked an attacking Divine Mountain Rat. Unfortunately, he was bitten, poisoned, and in order not to endanger his granddaughter, he chose suicide and death by soul explosion.
Ling Wanru was deeply grieved. Her grandfather had pampered her since childhood. This time, although she had snuck onto the Super Airship, he hadn’t sent her back. Regardless of how she acted, he never reproached her. Yet, unexpectedly, it was because of her that he died on Luoshen Mountain.
Ling Wanru felt immense guilt. The sorrow and remorse seemed genuine. Amidst the thunder, lightning, and torrential rain, a beautiful girl holding a corpse howled to the sky, adding to the suffocating scene.
Ding Fan silently sped over, and Sirius drove away the Divine Mountain Rats. Ling Gang and others, realizing the rats weren’t attacking, looked on in astonishment.
When Ling Wanru saw people approaching and noticed it was Ding Fan, she didn’t care. But upon realizing how easily Ding Fan subdued the Divine Mountain Rats, she immediately glared at him and shouted: "Why didn’t you come earlier? If you had come sooner, my grandfather wouldn’t have died."
"Saving you is a favor; I’m not responsible for your life and death!"
Ding Fan, coldly, repeated her words back to her but eventually couldn’t help but explain softly: "Miss Wanru, we rushed here upon hearing the commotion. Otherwise, we couldn’t have found you. The dead can’t come back. Please, Miss Wanru, accept my condolences."
Ding Fan glanced at Ling Gang while speaking. Immediately understanding, Ling Gang swiftly moved to Ling Wanru’s side and struck her neck, knocking her unconscious. Surrounded by turmoil, Ling Wanru was at risk of self-destructing without intervention.
All the bodies were collected and placed into a Space Ring, intended for burial later. With no air circulation inside the Space Ring, the bodies wouldn’t decay quickly.
Under Sirius’s threat, the Divine Mountain Rats were immobilized. People quickly retreated to a safe small valley to rest.
Ding Fan exchanged a few words with Ling Gang, learning that another Sixth Level Expert, Ling Qiang, had remained behind to cover their retreat but was now out of contact and not with them.
A Fifth Level Martial Artist next to Ling Gang hesitantly asked why Ding Fan hadn’t come sooner, given his ability to suppress the Divine Mountain Rats. If he had tackled those rats in the valley, there wouldn’t have been so many casualties.
"At that time, Sirius wasn’t in the valley."
Ding Fan looked at the person and explained. Zhong Zhiyong and Crimson Flame’s gazes became hostile, but Ling Gang quickly reprimanded the person, who hastily apologized to Ding Fan.
Ding Fan felt indifferent. Although so many died, he harbored little guilt since the Super Airship wasn’t his. Instead, they’d entrusted Black Obsidian to the Spirit Dragon Hall, which was obligated to protect them.
Ding Fan wasn’t a god with the responsibility or obligation to protect everyone here. People in the Divine Realm die constantly. How many could he protect or save?
The storm continued, and everyone sat silently through the night in the tempest. The rain ceased at dawn. As the weather cleared, the sun emerged. After eating some food, Ding Fan and the others set out to search for survivors.
Ling Wanru remained unconscious. The previous night’s attack devastated her, and she was too sorrowful to wake up yet.
