Clearly, this is not an easy matter to understand… perhaps it’s just this child’s hysteria, Hermes thought: But if it’s just a foolish child, why would Hades accept Joe as his foster son?
The question in Hermes’ heart gave rise to countless doubts. His intuition made him subconsciously feel that everything Joe said was true.
It’s just… a bad older sister? Mr. Smith? Mr. Death?
Mr. Death refers to Hades, right… Did Hades personally go to the Mortal World to bring this child to the Underworld? Is there something special about this child?
More and more questions prompted Hermes to want to uncover the truth behind this – Ever since seizing Mount Olympus from the Second Generation Divine King, this uncle who became Hades seemed to have always shown great dissatisfaction.
“I want to see what secrets you truly hold…” Hermes stared directly into Joe’s eyes.
This suddenly made Joe feel dizzy, and then his mind went blank… He looked as if he lost awareness of his body, becoming dazed in an instant.
“Child, come to me and tell me what else Hades said to you.” Hermes whispered softly in Joe’s ear at this moment.
But the envoy from Mount Olympus probably never imagined, the strange child in front had already told all he knew early on… without the slightest concealment.
And what he was doing at that moment, triggered some bans put in place when Hades decided to make Joe his foster son… At this moment, a shadow slowly appeared behind Joe.
Joe still looked lost, but Hermes’ face slightly changed… Along with the shadow’s mood – it was an avatar of Hades!
Intense Power of Death came from all directions towards Hermes… The strength of this Power of Death was so formidable that Hermes thought he might perish in the Underworld – despite the Divine King’s protection on him, it was instantly eroded by the Power of Death, the Divine King’s thunderous protection, shattered in a flash!
“Has Hades’ power already surpassed…” Hermes inhaled sharply, his face full of disbelief: “How is this possible!”
No, there’s no time left to bring Persephone back to the surface, this information must be taken back to Mount Olympus!
Hermes almost had no hesitation and no intention to resist Hades’ shadow, the wings on his Winged Boots slightly spread, and he soared entirely towards the sky of the Underworld.
Unexpectedly, the shadow of Hades behind Joe suddenly stretched out a hand for a grab, and in the high sky, Hermes was directly seized by a huge hand, flung towards the ground!
With a loud impact, a part of the ground collapsed… At the center, Hermes not only spat blood but even his consciousness became blurred – his body could not withstand such a toss!
A storm surged in Hermes’ heart, and another thought of terror occurred to him: Hades’ power perhaps truly has exceeded the owner of Mount Olympus… He had been lurking here in the Underworld for so many years, hiding this power!
Now, under the cover of Hades’ shadow, Joe looked impassive as he slowly floated to Hermes’ side… gazing down!
Hermes knew that through this shadow, Hades was watching him, and he forcibly revealed a seemingly relaxed smile, “Hades… my uncle, may I ask what is it I did that angered you? I sincerely apologize, perhaps I haven’t come to the Underworld for too long and forgot some rules, please be sure to forgive me… dear Uncle Hades.”
“Hermes, the god skilled in deceit.” Hades’ voice sounded… from the shadow behind Joe, “I need you to do something for me.”
Hermes subconsciously furrowed his brow… He knew Hades was indeed speaking of terms with him, and these were terms he evidently couldn’t refuse – yet he couldn’t think for the moment why Hades would bring up his expertise in deception.
“My dear Uncle Hades, may I ask what matter is it that I can assist you with?” Hermes rolled his eyes, “You know, the Father God is always watching me… I fear I may be powerless.”
Hades… the shadow slowly transmitted sound at this moment, with a voice full of age resonating now: “It’s been a long time, a very long time since I have seen the daylight of the earth; I have not seen the daylight of Mount Olympus; I have even gradually forgotten the feeling of warmth. Persephone’s arrival only brought winter to the Underworld.”
Hermes opened his mouth, somewhat uncertain, even a bit fearful, “Hades, do you want to leave the Underworld… This cannot happen, once you leave the Underworld, the Power of Death will descend upon the Mortal World, and balance will be broken… Father God, Father God will not allow you to leave the Underworld!”
“Zeus…” Hades’ shadow said calmly: “He certainly would not allow me to leave the Underworld, just as he doesn’t allow Poseidon to appear on the land; indeed, this is a problem.”
Hermes quickly said: “I heard of a mirror, no matter where, it can reflect what one thinks in their heart. Great Hades, my Uncle, you know my speed, I can swiftly retrieve the mirror for you. You can see the daylight of the earth in the Underworld, see the daylight of Mount Olympus! The world’s most beautiful scenery will all be presented before you.”
“Hermes, you still haven’t understood my meaning… No matter, perhaps not thinking clearly is a kind of happiness.” Hades’ shadow suddenly detached from Joe’s body at this moment, then directly enveloped Hermes’ … as if some kind of substance invading his body, little by little entering through the pores of Hermes’ Divine Body.
Hermes endured great pain, his cries turned fearful like a criminal suffering torture… He rolled on the ground, convulsing, enduring unimaginable pain.
“Hades… Hades!” Hermes nearly lost his mind at this moment while screaming: “What on earth do you want to do! Do you intend to kill the Main God of Mount Olympus? Aren’t you afraid that the Lord of the Sky’s thunder will descend upon this lifeless land?”
“Rest assured… No one will know you’re already dead.” Hades’ shadow whispered: “Because next to be Hermes will be me…”
Instantly, Hermes seemed to think of a colossal scheme, that perhaps had unknowingly enveloped all of Mount Olympus, as he faced extinction, an instinct beyond ever before arose suddenly, “Hades… are you planning to impersonate me, enter Mount Olympus??!”
“Yes and no, it’s also a matter for the future.” Hades’ shadow ultimately vanished completely within Hermes’ body.
As the final point of the shadow integrated into Hermes’ body, Hermes’ anger, screams all vanished… He lay motionless on the cracked ground, his gaze gradually becoming dim and listless.
At length… [Hermes] slowly stood up, lowering his head to look at his hands, then stretched his body, revealing a bizarre smile.
[Hermes] didn’t linger further but directly grabbed Joe by the back of his collar, lifted him up, and headed toward the Nether King’s palace, stepping on his Winged Boots.
“Although even I am unsure of your origins, it is evident that your arrival has brought me a fortune even the Goddess of Destiny dared not bestow upon me.” [Hermes] looked down at the unconscious Joe, the peculiar smile resurfacing on his face, “Little one, as my adopted son, you are destined to inherit the position of the Nether King… The Underworld has always needed a master.”
…
Soon, [Hermes] returned to the castle with Joe… without alerting many palace guards.
But it was clear that he had alarmed the original caretaker of Joe, Maid Kris.
“Lord Hermes, could you explain why you took the young master out privately, and furthermore…” Maid Kris’s gaze, indifferent yet keen, fixed on the current [Hermes], “I hope you wouldn’t tell me that the young master met with any mishaps.”
“Relax.” [Hermes] smiled faintly at this time, “He is merely exhausted and fell asleep… If you don’t believe me, check for yourself.”
Maid Kris, half-skeptical, took Joe over and began to examine him closely.
[Hermes] couldn’t help but ‘bitterly smile’ and say, “Has my credibility fallen to such a degree? It truly saddens me, Kris.”
“After all, Hermes is considered the master of deceit and trickery.” Maid Kris said calmly, “I just don’t want the task entrusted to me by the Nether King to be ruined, as it would really trouble me.”
“Actually, I don’t enjoy using tricks.” [Hermes] shook his head and said, “My hope is that all sincerity can shine over the Mortal World like the glory of the rising sun.”
Maid Kris did not respond, merely held Joe, and left the side of [Hermes]… At this moment, [Hermes] chuckled lightly, seemingly quite satisfied with being able to deceive Kris.
When Maid Kris finally left, [Hermes] then slowly turned around, gazing at a certain place behind him—he watched for a while, then walked over expressionlessly.
And at this moment, from the place originally empty, a shadow fascinatingly appeared, slowly rising.
“I thought you planned to hide forever.” [Hermes] looked at Old Ha with a face full of curiosity, “It’s truly interesting, that I sense from you the same power as mine… Who exactly are you?”
The figure before [Hermes] was indeed Old Ha… the Old Ha who encountered Nero.
…
When he looked at [Hermes], his expression was clearly unsettled, complex rather… Suddenly, Old Ha addressed [Hermes] in this way: “The Underworld has always needed a master.”
[Hermes], already invaded by the Nether King’s phantom, furrowed his brow, “Oh?”
Old Ha shook his head, his gaze suddenly turning sharp, saying in a deep voice: “Nether King, you cannot leave the Underworld, for once you leave, it breaks the balance, allowing a breach to open in the Underworld, bringing immense disaster to the Mortal World. Then, the Sky Pearl has the reason to lead the Main Gods from Mount Olympus to crusade against you.”
“Anyone would know that.” [Hermes] sneered.
Old Ha, unhurried but his demeanor appeared hard to relax, “So you plan to find a substitute… one who can harbor your Power of Death, temporarily preserving the Nether King’s power, thus allowing you to act as Hermes on Mount Olympus, doing whatever you desire… That child, the child you favored as the host!”
[Hermes] looked at Old Ha in surprise at this moment, even scrutinizing Old Ha… After a moment’s silence, [Hermes] suddenly said: “Although I don’t understand why you possess the same power as me, albeit weaker… there’s one thing I must tell.”
“What?” Old Ha furrowed his brows, feeling a foreboding—a fact since the time Nero stole the remote control on the beach and upon reaching this past Underworld, he’s always had this foreboding… a fear!
“I never thought that much.” [Hermes] slowly said, “Your statement reminded me, it turns out one could do it this way—how foolishly clever it is! This human child can surely become the perfect host for the Nether King’s power… Oh, heavens, with this I don’t merely have to use projections to disguise as Hermes to enter Mount Olympus… I can personally descend onto Mount Olympus!”
Upon hearing [Hermes]’s words at this moment, Old Ha’s ears seemed to explode with thunder… He looked at [Hermes] with terror, muttering to himself: “How could… How could it be this way? It’s impossible… It can’t be your planned scheme… How could it become my reminder to you… No! Things shouldn’t be this way… Things can’t be this way?! Something must be wrong… wrong!”
Old Ha now resembled a madman, sometimes clutching his head muttering to himself, sometimes laughing insanely… Suddenly, Old Ha’s eyes turned crimson, an unadulterated yet feeble Power of Death erupted from him, “Remote… I must regain it! I must start anew… remote!”
Old Ha transformed into black smoke at once, seemingly about to rush out from [Hermes]’s sight… but where would [Hermes] let Old Ha succeed at this moment?
A cold snort from [Hermes] echoed, a flood of the same but much stronger Power of Death surged out, the two identical death forces instantly blended, but evidently [Hermes]’s Power of Death was more potent, instantly devouring Old Ha’s Power of Death!
[Hermes] waved his hand, pulling Old Ha back before him, scrutinizing closely: “Indeed, it is the Nether King’s Divinity… even the divinity is identical, how curious!”
“Let me go… Release me!” Old Ha struggled desperately at this moment.
Yet [Hermes] merely chuckled lightly now, “Let you go? No… I suddenly have a better idea! Though my new son Prin is a fine vessel, compared to him… you seem more fitting.”
Old Ha’s body shook suddenly… He realized everything, at this moment, was in total chaos!
