Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 10: Sublimation Level 3 Treasure Chest["So unlucky! My first stop was a broken-down house with nothing but trash, damn it. The second stop dumped me in a stinking mud pond - the smell was so disgusting I couldn't even step outside!"]
["At least you didn't encounter monsters. I got chased by wild boars that nearly flipped my train! There are still several huge holes left. If the departure time hadn't come, I'd be dead meat back there."]
["Selling vulture leg meat! Trade for drinking water!"]
["I didn't dare get off at the first stop, and knowing the second was dangerous, I stayed on too... Hearing your stories, I'm scared to disembark at the third station either..."]
["If you don't get off, you're just waiting to die! Do you still have any food or water left?"]
Not everyone was like Ye Qiyan, who upgraded his train through sublimation from the start and obtained the "Crossroads of Fate" module, allowing him to choose stations based on their level and prefixes to avoid danger.
After lurking silently in the chat room for a while, Ye Qiyan's stop countdown was nearly over. Only then did he remember the garbage recycling device still operating in his first carriage. Four hours - he wondered what it might have collected.
In Ye Qiyan's mind, if that little machine managed to gather over ten kilograms of wood from this White Forest, it would be a miracle. He wasn't holding out much hope.
[Level 3 Treasure Chest: Can be opened]
Rubbing his eyes, he looked again. "Holy shit!"
Among the actual garbage in the recycling station, a pale gray wooden box outshone everything else. A treasure chest! And level 3 at that!
He'd considered the possibility of treasure chests in the White Forest before, but the area was too vast. Aside from the path to the orchard, Ye Qiyan didn't dare venture too deep, afraid he might get lost and never find his way back to the train. So he'd dismissed any thoughts of finding chests.
Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that the little garbage-collecting robot he'd looked down on would bring back a treasure chest from this forest!
Now Ye Qiyan gazed at the blocky little robot with newfound appreciation, patting its square head. "Worth every resource I spent building this recycling station. As expected of my creation!"
If the robot had facial expressions, it would definitely be giving him a look of contempt right now - especially after how dismissive its master had been moments ago. Humans truly were the most fickle creatures!
Suppressing his urge to open the chest immediately, Ye Qiyan placed his hand on it instead. A level 3 chest sublimated would become level 4 - guaranteeing at least eight Train Coins plus other level 4 rare items.
[Stamina: 45][Mental Energy: 92]
"Sublimate, sublimate!"
In high spirits, Ye Qiyan began the sublimation process. His stamina drained first, followed by mental energy. When the invisible forces dissipated, just like with the previous document bag, the wooden box showed no visible changes.
[Level 4 Treasure Chest: Can be opened]
[Stamina: 20][Mental Energy: 62]
Physically exhausted but mentally exhilarated, Ye Qiyan rubbed his hands together eagerly. "Hehehe, let's see what's inside~"
Creakâ
[Opened Level 4 Treasure Chest]
[Obtained: 8 Train Coins]
[Obtained: External Alert System (Level 4)]
[Obtained: White Forest Fruit Seeds]
[Obtained: Train Gray-White Paint Scheme]
[Obtained: Advanced Ceramic Plate Bulletproof Vest]
"A level 4 structure... imagine how envious everyone in chat would be," Ye Qiyan murmured to himself, though he had no intention of showing off. Bragging only bred jealousy and resentment - he just needed to focus on his own path.
However, this level 4 structure couldn't be sublimated further - not due to lacking potential, but because his combined stamina and mental energy seemed insufficient for the upgrade cost. "Looks like level 4 is a major threshold."
[External Alert Tower System]
[Can be installed atop any carriage]
[Can equip any ranged weapon]
[Once installed, provides automated defense that attacks hostile threats within 100m visible range, penetrating illusions/disguises/invisibility]
[Note: Damaged components can be repaired using mechanical parts]
"Now this is quality loot! Exactly what you'd expect from a level 4 chest." Installing the alert tower atop the locomotive, it appeared as nothing more than a round, layered object from the outside. When activated, a red orb inside would rotate 360 degrees.
Ye Qiyan still had six rifles remaining. Aside from the one he'd already sublimated, he equipped the other five to the tower. "Can you really grow trees inside a train carriage?"
Scratching his head, he examined the remaining three rewards.
[White Forest Fruit Seeds] (Level 3 Plant)
[Requires special gray-white soil from White Forest for cultivation]
[10 days to sprout, 10 days to grow, 10 days to mature]
[Daily water consumption: 0.5kg]
At 0.5kg of fresh water per seed, few could afford cultivation right now - which made Ye Qiyan one of the privileged few. Though the full 30-day growth cycle seemed painfully long.
Regardless of whether they'd grow, the seeds reminded him that the White Forest's soil itself was a special resource worth collecting. Plus, he could always sublimate the seeds after recovering his stamina.
Stop Countdown: [0:3:21]
Filling several wooden crates with gray-white soil, Ye Qiyan shut down the recycling station in the final minutes before departure. Patting the little robot's head, he tossed all the forest-collected garbage into the workbench for processing.
Though the haul was modest, it yielded twelve kilograms of wood plus some leaves and stones. Surprisingly, the leaves weren't entirely worthless either.
[White Leaves] (Level 1)
[Can produce white pigment]
[White Stones] (Level 1)
[Can produce white pigment]
"Everything in this forest really is white-related, huh?" Ye Qiyan remarked, patting the robot's head again. "Good job, little guy. After I rest, you're next for sublimation."
As the countdown ended, the train started moving. Feeling the slight push against his seat, Ye Qiyan watched through the window as the White Forest receded into nothingness, replaced once more by the endless wilderness.
"Back again."
Finally stretching leisurely, Ye Qiyan opened the chat interface to find his private messages blinking - someone had contacted him. Private messages between conductors only displayed notifications after adding each other as friends, meaning there was only one possible sender.
