Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 132: Fairness of the Train SystemMission, transaction—in a certain sense, it was indeed just that.
However, if this were truly a transaction, it wouldn't be fair to either party.
As he had mentioned earlier, he could simply take the Train Coins and leave without any obligation to complete the mission, as long as he had the capability to handle the mission issuer.
Seeing Ye Qiyan remain silent, Altos shook his head, realizing the other still didn't trust him. He sighed and continued:
"Still don't believe me? Brother, don't worry about me deceiving you. The train system is fair to Train Conductors, but it's completely different for those who aren't Train Conductors."
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what it sounds like. The wasteland connects countless platform worlds, and the natives of those worlds are nothing more than NPCs for Train Conductors' adventures in the eyes of the train system. Their lives and deaths are meaningless—whether Train Conductors kill people at the stations or rob them, they won't face any punishment."
"Conversely, former Train Conductors like me, who know about the Endless Wasteland and the Train Survival world but lost their status due to various circumstances, receive absolute constraints."
Ye Qiyan understood the meaning behind Altos's words.
"Alright, I can help you buy a locomotive section."
"Really!? Thank you, brother!"
"But before that, you need to tell me what else is in these Ancient Battlefield Ruins besides you and these rotting corpses?"
Actually, if this Altos were a normal human, Ye Qiyan wouldn't have presented himself as so greedy.
However, this guy had changed his race.
It was probably similar to that vampire viscount heart—something that would instinctively disgust him as a human.
This wasn't a mental influence but rather the feeling of a human facing a betrayer.
That's why Ye Qiyan chose to make things difficult for this guy.
Ultimately, while he was greedy, he still had his principles. He wouldn't treat people at the stations as fake NPCs like Qin Qiang did at the previous station.
Altos knocked on his helmet, thinking carefully for a moment.
"Probably nothing else, but there's a black forest to the southeast. I've only been there once—that place is seriously sinister. When you enter that forest, you unconsciously feel like chopping something up."
According to the direction Altos pointed, southeast was exactly where WALL-E had gone to explore.
That was most likely where the Demon Card was located.
"You've been here for over ten years—never thought about exploring that area?"
Altos shook his head.
"Didn't dare to go. All my items were stolen, and now I can only control these rotting corpses using the lich's Module. But when I go to that place, the rotting corpses become uncontrollable and attack me. That one time I went, I almost got chopped to death by these corpses."
Was it because of the Demon Card's power?
Or was there something else there?
Ye Qiyan nodded in understanding.
He summoned the system interface and swiped the black market invitation card.
Searching for train locomotives, he found them available here, but the price was exactly the same as at Suoluo City's vehicle exchange.
[Basic Train Locomotive]
[Price: 100 Train Coins]
He didn't purchase it immediately but instead focused on the additional options available during purchase.
"This is quite good."
A slight smile curved Ye Qiyan's lips as he input something on the interface. Moments later, the purchase price changed from 100 to 110 points.
Without hesitation, he aimed the bag of Train Coins at the interface. One hundred and ten Train Coins transformed into dark golden light points and merged into it.
Then, under Altos's bewildered gaze, a grid-patterned distorted depression appeared above the black pit.
Black tracks extended downward as a most basic train locomotive descended from the sky. With the sound of a steam whistle, it entered the deep pit.
Putting away the remaining Train Coins, Ye Qiyan pointed toward the locomotive.
"Not going to check it out?"
Altos vigorously knocked on his helmet as if feeling he was dreaming.
His eyes shifted back and forth between the train and Ye Qiyan.
"Holy turtle, big brother, what level Train Conductor are you exactly? How can you manipulate the train system without going through the train itself?"
"Is that strange? Couldn't you do it before?"
"Definitely not! Being able to use the train system without going through the train—that's a Module only Train Conductors above level 30 have a chance to obtain. If I'd had such a Module back then, I wouldn't have been trapped here after losing my train. If it weren't for having a few Modules and not needing to eat after changing races, I would have died in this damn place long ago..."
Seeing Ye Qiyan couldn't be bothered with him, Altos chuckled awkwardly, then jogged to the train door. He took a deep breath, exhaled a turbid sigh, and then bumped into the door.
"Um, big brother, you need to open this door."
Altos smiled sheepishly. Compared to initially, his tone when speaking to Ye Qiyan had become quite respectful.
Moving his fingers, Ye Qiyan canceled the locomotive's encapsulation.
The door opened, and Altos quickly scrambled inside, running to the front control system. He pressed his armor-covered hand against it.
"Binding!"
"...Why no reaction?"
Outside the locomotive, Ye Qiyan walked to the window, watching Altos's actions. He moved his fingers again, and only then did Altos complete the binding.
"?? Big brother, what, what did you do? Why can't I initiate binding? And why does it seem like I can't control the train's system?"
Ye Qiyan took out a White Forest Fruit and took a bite. Eating calmly, he said:
"Didn't do much. Just had the black market people help me put a lock on this train. When you reach the City of a Thousand Stars at the next station and give me the items you mentioned, this lock will naturally release."
"You!"
The Pure Cleansing Stone flickered slightly.
Altos's imposing manner lasted less than a second before weakening.
"You're really quite cautious..."
"Friend request sent. Next station, City of a Thousand Stars—I'll come find you."
Without waiting for Altos to choose whether to accept,
Ye Qiyan's train control system sub-interface had already made the choice for him.
Altos sat down on the ground helplessly, completely resigned to his fate. He even sighed with emotion:
"If I'd been as cautious as you back then, and hadn't trusted that guy who was once my friend, maybe I wouldn't have ended up in my current situation."
At least he had regained his status as a Train Conductor. Although his train level and equipment were gone, given enough time, he could recover everything.
