Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 27: The Golden-Haired Nun in Town"Mr. Inspector, you are the inspector, right? Everyone has been waiting for so long... Are you really him?"
Tina blinked her eyes, the plea and anticipation in her gaze almost tangible.
Ye Qiyan looked at her and nodded with a kind smile.
"Yes, you said the person arriving by train would be the inspector. Besides me, there's no second person, right? So I am indeed the inspector you're referring to."
"Yay! Mr. Inspector, come with me quickly! Everyone has been waiting forever!"
"Alright, just wait a moment. Here, have this."
Ye Qiyan handed Tina an ordinary White Forest Fruit. The little girl showed no fear or hesitation as she took a bite.
"Wow, this is delicious! Thank you, Mr. Inspector!"
He smiled without responding, checking his equipment one last time before putting on the chapel cross that had been hanging on the train's front. Only then did he step off the train.
"Let's go meet these people you mentioned."
"Mm-hmm!"
Following the girl away from the unnaturally normal station, they entered a small town dusted with light snow.
The town had no streetlights - only a single lantern hanging above the church at its center, their apparent destination. Ye Qiyan couldn't shake the feeling that the church resembled an upright train cab.
The town was quiet, yet he could feel eyes watching them from the darkness. Occasional whispers sent chills down his spine. Ye Qiyan kept one hand on his Black-gloss Pistol and the chapel cross.
He hadn't forgotten the station's warning: this town's threat level was marked "Danger!" - with an exclamation point more severe than ordinary danger.
Yet in this eerie environment that would terrify most adults, little Tina seemed completely unaffected, skipping along like the only splash of color in a grayscale world.
"Whew, hehe~ Mr. Inspector, we're here! Everyone's been waiting so long, come inside quickly!" Tina stood before the church doors, the overhead lantern illuminating her as she beckoned Ye Qiyan.
After a brief pause, Ye Qiyan ascended the jade-white brick steps to the entrance.
"Alright, little Tina, you go first."
"Mm-hmm!"
As Tina pushed open the church doors, bright light revealed hundreds of townspeople seated along both sides, heads bowed in prayer. Only the golden-haired nun in black at the front stood, lowering her black-bound book as she noticed Tina, then Ye Qiyan behind her.
"Sister Nun, I brought the inspector!"
At these words, all praying residents fell silent simultaneously. Like marionettes, their heads lifted in unison, hundreds of eyes locking onto Ye Qiyan's face.
Ye Qiyan stood his ground, the safety on his Black-gloss Pistol already off. The slightest hostile move would send a bullet through the nun's skull.
"Mr. Inspector, there's no need for alarm. We mean you no harm." The nun smiled warmly. "Everyone, please continue your prayers - don't frighten our inspector. Tina, go prepare."
"Mm-hmm!"
As Tina scampered to the back, the townspeople resumed praying. Only the nun walked normally, retrieving a box from beneath the pulpit and approaching Ye Qiyan.
"Mr. Inspector, this is your reward."
"I've done nothing to earn it. Stay where you are - what's really happening here?" Ye Qiyan aimed his pistol at the nun's head.
This town wasn't right. Anyone could see that. Yet amidst this abnormality existed Tina and this nun, their very normality making everything more unsettling.
Unfazed, the nun stopped as instructed but knelt to place the box on the floor, opening it to reveal its contents - one third of a black-and-gold card.
Ye Qiyan recognized it instantly, even without the train's appraisal.
"Blasphemy Card?"
Still smiling, the nun knelt before the partial card, clasping her hands in prayer.
"Only those who blaspheme against gods can enter this world. Friend, you're the inspector I've awaited - or more accurately, the blasphemer."
"What are you talking about?"
Ye Qiyan glanced at his chest cross - no reaction. This woman wasn't evil.
The nun's gaze also flicked to his cross as she lifted the Blasphemy Card fragment and advanced.
"My words are plain. 'Inspector' is just the title for Tina. Only train conductors possessing Blasphemy Cards can enter this world. Though I could call you 'Conductor' if you prefer~" She chuckled. "Mr. Nameless Conductor, which stop is this town for you?"
She knew about conductors. As the nun drew nearer, Ye Qiyan gave a cold laugh and bolted for the station.
The golden-haired nun stared in surprise before reaching out.
"Eh? Wait, don't run!"
"Only fools wouldn't run."
Ye Qiyan didn't slow. The flustered nun shouted:
"Stop him!"
The praying townspeople sprang into action, sprinting after Ye Qiyan with impossible speed.
"Damn it, I knew this stop wouldn't be easy!" Seeing his pursuers gaining, Ye Qiyan gritted his teeth and fired.
Bang! The lead pursuer took a headshot, but the golden-haired nun smirked.
"Useless! These are my creations - mere bullets can't stop them. Besides, conductors entering here are at most Level 3. A novice like you could never... huh?"
Her triumph lasted seconds before she realized her connection to that puppet had severed. He'd actually destroyed one?
Impossible! As she'd said, ordinary bullets wouldn't work. But what about Level 3 bullets with armor-piercing effects? Ye Qiyan kept firing, each shot precisely striking joints or heads. After eliminating several, he'd create distance before repeating the process.
With the Judgment of Gunfire module, his aim required no conscious thought. Maintaining this balance, he actually seemed likely to escape the town.
