Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!

Chapter 32: Slaughter Platform! Opening the Level 5 Treasure Chest

The train had been stopped for ten minutes.

Sunlight streamed through the window, hitting Ye Qiyan’s face.

The blinding light woke him.

He looked around in a daze.

Outside the window, vast stretches of forest filled his view.

This wasn’t the wilderness—this was a platform?

He became fully conscious; memories from before he blacked out surged back like a tide.

He looked down. The iron-clad chest lay quietly at his feet.

[Level 5 Chest] (Can be opened)

Which meant...

He glanced at the talent section on his personal interface.

[Sublimation: Can consume stamina or spirit to evolve any existence; no limit on category, no limit on level, no limit on damage state, ignores resistance]

The description only added four words.

Ignores resistance.

That was enough.

He had succeeded.

“It actually works.”

A smile appeared on Ye Qiyan’s face.

He looked up toward the top of the train, at the sentinel tower device. The previous sensation of being unable to Sublimate had vanished; above Level 4 there were no longer any barriers.

The shackles on his talent had been broken after he Sublimated himself.

Excited, Ye Qiyan began to inspect his surroundings.

While unconscious he had vaguely heard some sounds.

This randomly selected platform was the last kind he wanted to enter.

A Slaughter Platform.

What’s the difference between slaughter and hunting? Ye Qiyan had no clue.

After all, he had never even been to a Hunting Platform.

“What is all this...”

He opened the train system’s records and saw that long list. His good mood gradually faded, replaced by a heavy weight.

“Interference? Someone interfered with my docking platform and duration? But the train system erased it? And this countdown? Crap! Ten hours?”

Rubbing his eyes, Ye Qiyan made sure he hadn’t misread it.

What the hell—this train system was warning of an extremely dangerous platform, yet it wanted him to stay here for ten hours? He distinctly remembered his train’s usual stop time was only five hours.

No doubt this was the result of interference by that unknown existence.

That existence had even tried to trap him here forever, but in the end the train system forcibly erased it.

Judging from that, the train system was relatively fair and could be trusted.

One saving grace: the VIP Early Departure Privilege Module was still usable, but he would still have to remain here for seven more hours.

Ye Qiyan took a deep breath and calmed himself.

He didn’t know why things had turned out this way, but for now, he’d open the chest.

Items from a Level 5 Chest should, in principle, be enough to overwhelm a Level 4 platform.

As long as the chest loot wasn’t terrible, there shouldn’t be any major problem.

[Open Level 5 Chest]

[Received Train Coins: 10]

[Received: Module: System Bind]

[Received: Module: In-Station Launch]

[Received: Golden Strike Card (Level 5)]

[Received: Ever-Accurate Pocket Watch (Level 5)]

Besides the Train Coins, there were four other rewards: two modules and two Level 5 items.

[Module: System Bind]

[After using this module, the train system will permanently change the bound object to the Train Conductor himself instead of the train control base station]

[Module: In-Station Launch]

[After using this module, you can launch the train within a station to a target location; consumes one Train Coin per hour]

He used both modules immediately.

They weren’t cards—once used through the system they would display directly on Ye Qiyan himself; there was no physical object to touch, so they could not be Sublimated.

This was different from talents.

Talents inherently represented himself—Sublimating a talent was equivalent to performing a Sublimation on himself.

Of the two modules, Ye Qiyan especially liked the first one.

Many times he’d been inconvenienced by the train control system only letting him operate from the locomotive. Now, even outside, he could use the system. Whether identifying items or checking personal info, he no longer had to run back and forth between both ends.

[Golden Strike Card (Level 5)]

[After use, consumes 20 Spirit; your next attack will apply Golden Strike, increasing power by 5 times]

[Uses: 3/3]

“Sublimate.”

[Stamina: 100 → 80] [Spirit: 120 → 90]

After completing the self-Sublimation, the points consumed were less than before.

[Golden Critical Card! (Level 6)]

[Consumes 20 Spirit; the next attack gains Golden Critical, increasing power by 50 times]

[Uses: 3/3]

“It actually jumped tenfold? Heh, if I used this on someone, that’d feel amazing.”

Having exhausted his curiosity, Ye Qiyan put it into his pocket.

With this, if he faced some truly formidable monsters, he wouldn’t be completely helpless.

Too bad it could only be used three times.

[Ever-Accurate Pocket Watch (Level 5)]

[A watch that will never be wrong about the time; in any space-time, it gives you the most precise time.]

“Uh... well, okay.”

He wanted to complain about how a watch could count as a Level 5 item, but the chest’s haul wasn’t bad overall—consider it a bonus.

“It’s actually pretty nice.”

The watch was pure white, its surface traced with incomprehensible, ornate golden patterns.

The dial and hands were carved entirely from some kind of gemstone.

In every respect, it was a beautiful pocket watch.

Ye Qiyan slipped it into his pocket too; it would be handy for checking the time.

Bang—!

Suddenly a gunshot shattered the quiet.

He looked toward the sound.

In a clearing among the trees, crimson blood pooled; the corpse of a dog-like monster holding a dagger in its mouth bobbed to the surface.

That gunshot had come from the sentinel tower!

Its reveal ability had detected that monster.

But the death of one creature did not end things.

The sentinel tower flared red; locking red rings appeared on the ground.

One after another, monsters charged out of the forest toward the train.

Bang—bang—!

Gunfire never stopped.

The sentinel tower had gone to full power, firing Level 3 bullets like there was no cost.

Each shot could precisely target a monster’s vital point and kill it.

The hundred-meter guarded area became a forbidden zone for those monsters.

Ye Qiyan breathed a little easier, but his heart grew heavier.

If he hadn’t gotten the sentinel tower—if the sentinel tower lacked the reveal ability—he would probably have already been seized by monsters that sneaked into the train and torn apart.

“What exactly is going on with this platform?”

Hunting... Slaughter...

Only one character difference.

The former, as hunter, kills the enemy.

The latter, slaughter, could be interpreted in two directions.

First, slaughtering the enemy—which overlaps with hunting.

Second, being slaughtered by the enemy—waiting in fear and despair, constantly hiding and struggling until the docking time ends.

In other words, the encirclement and slaughter by these monsters constituted the Slaughter Platform.

The existence that interfered with his platform choice intended to trap him in this killing ground to die here.
