Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!

Chapter 540: The End? A New Beginning?

The first to wake up was Fengfeng. She saw the illusion of herself becoming [Wind] within the Floral Heart Lock, and it filled her with fear. That fear drove her to flee the theater of desire.

The second to wake up was the one-eyed pirate. He saw countless gold, silver, and jewels beckoning to him, yet just as he was about to sink into depravity, he remembered past betrayals and failures. The pain jolted him awake.

Finally, the masked knight saw a vision where, in the world he lived in, his wife and daughter, who had been slaughtered by his enemies, were not dead. He had taken his revenge, yet in that moment when his daughter called him "Father," he was unwilling to wake up.

This was his desire. In a way, this Game Card named Floral Heart Lock didn't feel much like a Game Card. It was more akin to the ability of a [Dream Eater], trapping people in dreams.

Thus, only three people proceeded to the final trial.

Mo Shi, Fengfeng, and the one-eyed pirate.

[Game Card · Horse Racing]

A grassland appeared, upon which stood twelve racehorses, each with different colors and appearances.

Just as the ability of this card sequence described.

Use the chips obtained from the previous two trials to gamble on which horse would reach the finish line first.

Betting wasn't a one-time event; it was divided into three stages.

The start, the middle stretch, and the final stretch.

Each time a stage was reached, all the racehorses would come to a standstill.

Based on the current situation, bets would be placed for the next stage.

A simple game. It could be treated as pure luck, or one could analyze the horses' conditions.

After the results were announced, those who bet on the first-place horse would triple their chips, those on second place would double theirs, third place remained unchanged, and all chips bet on the remaining placements would vanish.

Furthermore, there was one more rule: the horse bet on during the first stage, the start, was forbidden for anyone else to bet on in subsequent stages.

In short, the trial wasn't difficult.

Mo Shi, Fengfeng, and the one-eyed pirate did not have the same number of chips.

Mo Shi, sitting on over a hundred chips, held an absolute advantage.

The trial's outcome was exactly as expected, but the process...

Mo Shi picked a racehorse, patted its head, and a strange black shadow coiled around its body. From the very start of the first stage, it shot forward at an incredible speed.

"You're cheating!?"

The one-eyed pirate said angrily.

"Did the rules say cheating wasn't allowed?"

Of course not.

From the first rock-paper-scissors game to this horse race.

None of the Game Cards manipulated by Zhao Lin had rules prohibiting cheating.

Fengfeng realized this too. She also secretly used her Wind Elemental acceleration ability on the warhorse she bet on during the starting stage, but she was a step too late, finishing in second place.

"Finally over."

Inside the cafe, Ye Qiyan put down the potato chip bag, raising an eyebrow as he looked at Fengfeng's ashen face and the one-eyed pirate's expression of despair.

Clearly, the fates of the spirit-state young man and the knight in the previous two trials had led them to believe that failure meant death.

This was precisely the result Zhao Lin wanted.

"Stop grinning foolishly. Go retrieve the Game Card's ability. I'll handle the rest."

"Hehe, got it, Brother Qiyan."

Hugging her newly obtained Game Card, Zhao Lin happily ran out.

Ye Qiyan shook his head and prepared to stand up and leave as well.

He was still very curious about why Fengfeng had become a novice Train Conductor. There was still plenty of time. After Zhao Lin announced the trial's end and let her properly enjoy the thrill of being a [Senior], it wouldn't be too late to grab her and ask.

But before he could step out of the cafe, the light sticker notification indicating WALL-E had found a treasure made him pause.

"So fast? Oh, right... it's just a low-level station."

Having stayed in advanced stations for so long, where WALL-E often took several days or even weeks to find treasures, Ye Qiyan had almost forgotten that in these tiny low-level stations, finding a treasure wouldn't take nearly that long.

"Come back, WALL-E."

Judge activated.

WALL-E's figure appeared before him.

"Welcome back. But... you didn't get the thing?"

WALL-E waved his hands, shook his head, then nodded, anxiously tugging at his pant leg, trying to pull him outside.

"You found it, but can't bring it back? Meaning... it's not a treasure chest? Or the chest is too big to move?"

Ye Qiyan's curiosity was instantly piqued.

If it was just a treasure chest, his interest wouldn't be great, but if it wasn't a chest...

"Let's go, let's go. Lisette, stay here. Tell Zhao Lin I have something to do when she gets back. If that Mo Shi girl looks for me... Red Tears, you stay here too."

Trials, death—compared to the treasure WALL-E found, none of it seemed important anymore.

He was very curious about what kind of thing the treasure in this low-level station world could be.

Because it was pieced together from the ruins of several low-level station worlds.

This space was actually quite a bit larger than one might imagine.

Led by WALL-E all the way, Ye Qiyan arrived at the edge of this realm.

Looking outward was darkness and void.

To be honest, Ye Qiyan had never paid attention to what lay beyond these low-level station worlds before.

But now...

[Spirit: 300 (Witness Truth and Falsehood) (Shadow of the End)]

A glint of light flashed in the depths of his eyes, and he saw the scene beyond this low-level station world.

It was a chaotic turbulence... a turbulence that destroyed everything, wantonly devouring.

The only reason this small low-level station world could survive within this turbulence was the invisible barrier bestowed upon it as a station world by some unknown existence.

"Worlds are destroyed after experiencing the End, then fragment into countless low-level stations. These low-level stations, under protection, recombine and grow, until one day a new advanced station world is born?"

Extremes beget opposites.

The End, then rebirth?

The day a world welcomes the End is also the moment it reaches its limit. If a way to resist or even eliminate the End can be found, does that mean that world has [Surpassed the End]?

No, Ye Qiyan didn't think this idea was correct.

The End is the End. Destruction is destruction. The world can be gray, but there must always be black and white.

New worlds may be born, new civilizations may appear, but that is merely the civilization and the world itself embarking on a journey named [Progress] within the endless wasteland.

It's not because of the destruction wrought by [the End], but the struggle and resistance of the world itself.

No one is willing to welcome the End. The so-called rebirth is just like [Nefeti]. After its rebirth, it was no longer the former [Nefeti] but a brand new, never-before-seen [It].

Soundless whispers drifted through the space~

Ye Qiyan snapped his fingers, a smile appearing on his face.

"Without me even noticing, you made me dream, huh? Little one."

Ye Qiyan suddenly opened his eyes. Anchor and Judge swirled around him.

Even all the Demon Cards transformed into rings behind his back.

He still stood at the edge of this world; only an instant had passed in the outside world.

The Hunt, coiled around his arm, and WALL-E gently tugged at his pant leg.

And the juvenile [Dream Eater] that had been resting on his chest all along now affectionately nuzzled his cheek.
