Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 639: Zhao An's Life Flashing Before His EyesOutside Red Maple Valley.
Zhao An gathered the ball of flame.
This was something he had borrowed quite a few Train Coins to acquire from a senior, high-level Train Conductor. Its effect was specifically designed to counter monsters like the Treants.
According to that senior Train Conductor, once this ball of flame was thrown in, it could burn all the Treants in the valley to ashes.
Zhao An didn't like fire.
That was because he himself was someone with a plant-type talent.
But now, he had no other choice.
He didn't want to spend any more money.
If he couldn't take this Low-Level Station World as a stronghold this time, with the identity of a Guild President gone, there was no way he could repay those high-interest loans he had taken out.
Don't even think about it.
The organizations that could lend out high-interest loans all had special permissions to connect with the System. If he didn't pay up, the System would seal away all the Train Coins he owned before every upgrade option, and directly transfer them to the creditor.
Unless he never upgraded his Train for the rest of his life.
But Zhao An refused to accept such a fate.
"Ugh... Miss Shangguan, please step back."
Shangguan Yingxue hesitated for a moment, then took a few steps back, putting some distance between herself and Zhao An. She was even ready to return to her Train and flee at any moment.
Her Train had a fourteen-hour VIP Early Departure Privilege. Even if something went wrong, as long as she waited another hour or two, she could escape.
Ye Qiyan's appointment was three days from now. If Zhao An really managed to secure this place, it would indeed save some money.
Zhao An stood at the entrance of Red Maple Valley. A few seeds fell from his sleeve to the ground. Activating his talent, a large black-and-red flower grew beside him.
The ball of flame was placed in the center of the flower, which pulled back like a catapult, gathering strength, before launching!
"Burn them all!"
Zhao An roared, as if venting all the frustration he had been feeling lately.
The flame was hurled high into the air, dragging a tail of fire like a meteor as it fell toward the valley.
For the first time in his life, he eagerly anticipated a fire destroying all the plants. He stared intently at the falling flame until it disappeared into the valley.
One second, two seconds, three seconds...
"What's going on?"
A sense of unease crept into Zhao An's heart.
"Roar!"
Suddenly.
A deep, resonant roar echoed from within the valley.
From the entrance of the valley path, a terrifying snow-white giant bear charged straight toward him.
Frost spread beneath its feet.
The entire path, including the cliffs on both sides of the valley, was encased in ice.
"What?!"
Zhao An was utterly shocked.
Why was there a White Bear in Red Maple Valley?!
And the pressure this White Bear gave off was far greater than the Treant King that had killed all his Guild companions in the valley back then!
Zhao An instinctively turned and ran.
He threw a few seeds to the ground, consuming Spirit, transforming them into vines meant to trap beasts, hoping to slow down the White Bear.
But these normally sturdy vines couldn't even stop it for a single step, let alone restrain it.
It easily caught up to Zhao An and raised its paw to strike. But remembering its master's orders, it immediately held back most of its strength.
With what it thought was a feather-light force, it slapped Zhao An.
Then.
Zhao An was slammed to the ground.
He felt like all his bones had shattered.
His mind was foggy, everything before him turned gray, and every memory of the past echoed in his mind.
A lantern show.
A human's final recollection before death.
The White Bear stopped its charge. It poked Zhao An with its paw and, finding him unresponsive, immediately panicked.
Its master had said not to kill! How could this human be so fragile? He wasn't even as tough as the monsters it usually ran into in other worlds!
It had only slapped him once! And that slap hadn't even used one-tenth of its full strength!
"Roar! Roar!"
The White Bear was frantic.
It had finally gained its master's favor to carry out a mission, and if it couldn't handle such a simple task...
Its massive body trembled.
Imagining its master abandoning it, no longer receiving the gift of that mysterious power, and, most importantly, losing its master's trust!
So, the White Bear quickly grabbed Zhao An by the head, lifted him up, and started shaking him vigorously.
It remembered that the Boss Demon Raven had once shown it a trick. After knocking Second Boss Goshawk unconscious, the Boss would grab it by the head and shake it until it woke up.
Yeah, that should work for a human too, right!?
And so, Zhao An's lantern show played faster and faster.
Back in Red Maple Valley, Ye Qiyan watched this scene unfold through the feed from the Nano-Bee Swarm and sighed speechlessly.
He clicked his fingers.
A group of Nano Giant Sting Bees, not far from the White Bear, gave its rear end a vicious sting.
"Roar!"
The White Bear yelped in pain, dropping Zhao An, and angrily looked behind it. But upon seeing the Nano-Bee Swarm, it immediately became docile.
These little bees that couldn't produce honey were terrifying! It couldn't beat them.
It looked at the swarm, then at Zhao An, and finally, its gaze landed on Shangguan Yingxue, who was already hiding in her Train, praying not to be found by the White Bear.
There were two humans. This one seemed done for. There was still one left! It couldn't afford another mistake.
So.
The White Bear steadied its strength and ran over to Shangguan Yingxue's Train.
Just as it was about to raise its paw, it thought of Zhao An's fate and its master's orders. It held back its strength again and, with an extremely "gentle" motion, poked Shangguan Yingxue's Train.
Crack—
The window shattered, and a gap was torn open in the low-level Train.
"Roar, roar."
The White Bear impatiently pointed at Shangguan Yingxue, who was curled up in a corner, her face full of terror, and then at Zhao An, who was lying on the ground, his condition unknown.
"You... you want me to save him?"
Shangguan Yingxue sensed that the White Bear didn't seem to want to kill her. Watching its movements, she cautiously asked.
The White Bear scratched its head.
It couldn't really understand human speech except for its master's. It just remembered its master's order: until it got what the master wanted, these two humans couldn't die!
"Roar!"
It let out another roar and stepped away from the Train door.
It was going to watch this human woman. If she tried to escape, it would give her a slap too.
Shangguan Yingxue gritted her teeth. With a pained expression, she took a level-5 healing potion from a chest and walked over to Zhao An. She hesitated for a moment.
"Can you help me open his mouth?"
This time, the White Bear understood.
Using the smallest amount of force it could muster, it pried Zhao An's mouth open. As Shangguan Yingxue, with a look of heartache, poured the potion into Zhao An's mouth...
This seemingly unfortunate man finally woke up.
"Am I... dead?"
"Roar!"
"..."
Zhao An's eyes rolled back. Just as he was about to pass out again, the White Bear poked him in the stomach.
"Cough! Cough, cough, cough! I'm not... not dead. Ugh... it hurts!"
"That's right, you're not dead."
A somewhat exasperated voice came through a level-1 walkie-talkie, which had been temporarily purchased from the Trading Platform by Ye Qiyan and was carried by the Nano-Bee Swarm.
Ye Qiyan, who was eating barbecue back in Red Maple Valley, curled his lips as he watched Zhao An, who was nearly tortured to death by the White Bear.
Next time something like this happened, maybe he should just let the Goshawk handle it...
"Two hundred and sixty Train Coins, and this valley is yours. Oh, right, your injuries are serious. If you don't get treatment, you'll probably die."
"I can throw in a free treatment, guaranteed to reconnect all the bones in your body."
"How about it?"
"You want it~?"
A bewitching whisper, crackling through the static-filled piece-of-junk walkie-talkie, reached Zhao An's ears~
