Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 725: The Counterfeit Train"Run! Run! The Lord of Chalk's lackeys are here!"
"What!? How did they find the settlement?"
"Go report to the elders!"
The Night People scattered and fled.
The knights reached the settlement, slaughtering every living thing around them with merciless faces.
The knight captain standing on the moving train, however, closed his eyes and did not look around.
Charlie had failed.
Clearly, he hadn't held them off for long.
Anli had also been separated from the other two assassin boys.
She was going to look for Ye Qiyan.
These knights were too strong.
Too powerful for a novice assassin like her, who had trained less than three years, to defeat.
Besides, Charlie—the best among them—was now missing.
The only person Anli could think of who might save them all
was just one.
"Brother Ye... Brother Ye isn't in his room, he should, should be up the mountain..."
She didn't know where Ye Qiyan actually was.
Her guess was a gamble.
If she lost that gamble, she had no backup plan in her heart.
All that would await her then would be despair and collapse.
Fortunately,
she guessed right.
Using the mountain path known only to assassins,
winding and twisting, through a narrow tunnel,
Anli emerged from the water into the elders' courtyard.
That tunnel had been dug by the four of them so they could occasionally sneak down the mountain during training.
Now it became the fastest route that allowed her to reach the mountaintop ahead of all the knights.
Rumble—!
Thunder crashed through the sky!
Anli crawled out of the icy lake.
Her body was caked in mud, her face streaked with either rain or tears.
She could barely make out the path ahead.
Relying on memory, she staggered toward the elders' meeting room.
But after only a few steps,
she suddenly stepped on something familiar, soft and non-resilient.
She knew what that was.
A corpse.
And it had been cut open.
"A corpse? How—how can there be corpses?"
She wiped the grime from her eyes, took a deep breath, fought nausea, and forced herself to calm down.
When she opened her eyes and saw the mass of human flesh she had just stepped on, her whole body bristled instantly.
"Here, here!"
Anli saw corpses everywhere.
They floated on the water's surface, being picked at by fish.
These bodies had been washed here by the rain; some wore faces of terror, some despair, some rage...
Clearly, they had been killed.
Hum—
A soft hum.
In the sky,
a sky-blue mechanical girl coldly stared at her.
"I-Iv e sister, sister, what happened here, why the elders—"
The targeting halo under Anli's feet triggered.
A black cannon muzzle extended from a weapon slot.
Eve had no patience for others.
Except for her master, everything else in her eyes was disposable trash to be eliminated.
Just as she was deciding whether to deal with this strange black humanoid lifeform,
Ye Qiyan's voice came from nearby.
At this moment,
he wore a black trench coat, and beside him, Red Tears sheltered him with a floral umbrella.
Demon Ravens perched on a nearby high wall, looking at Anli with mocking eyes.
A strong malice lingered, even though Ye Qiyan had not actively released it.
But with his and the demons' presence, fear naturally rose in Anli's heart.
She trembled and collapsed backward into the pool of blood-and-rain-mixed water, instinctively taking two steps back.
For some reason, Anli felt that although Brother Ye still looked at her with a gentle smile, it no longer brought the comfort and trust it once did.
What remained was only a terrifying malice.
"Eve, you scared someone."
Eve landed from the air, her bunny ears drooping.
She lowered her head and walked to Ye Qiyan's side looking pitiful, as if she had done something wrong and awaited punishment.
"But it was because the rain was so heavy and she couldn't see clearly, sorry, little sister Anli. I was handling some matters just now. Those knights arrived too fast and actually sent quite a few strong ones to kill those elders."
"I arrived a little late, so don't be too sad. Oh, by the way, where is Charlie? Why didn't he come with you?"
A patchy, extremely perfunctory explanation.
Yet Anli couldn't help but accept it as truth.
When Ye Qiyan mentioned Charlie, her hatred for the Lord of Chalk's knights surged to its peak.
Fear was overrun by anger and panic.
She hurriedly rose, and under Eve's dangerous gaze, ran up to Ye Qiyan.
"Brother Ye, please, please save everyone! Those knights are already here! They, they're right—"
"Outside the gate."
"Huh?"
Anli froze and followed Ye Qiyan's gaze toward the courtyard gate.
In this cold rain,
a 'train' climbing upward drowned out the sound of rain.
"Toot!"
A whistle blew.
But it didn't sound like the train conductors' trains.
If there was a difference,
it was like the gap between a counterfeit and the genuine article.
Clearly copied ninety percent, but that final ten percent could not be learned.
Plop!
The gate was pierced by a long spear.
Armored knights on huge warhorses surrounded the courtyard.
They didn't attack at once.
Instead they looked at Ye Qiyan with puzzled expressions.
They whispered among themselves,
seeming baffled at someone like Ye Qiyan appearing here.
That bafflement spread backward.
The black-haired knight standing atop the train's head opened his eyes.
"Humans? A human standing with the Night People? Could it be—"
The train accelerated.
Thick steam spewed.
Without rails, its wheels relied on treads to crush through the wall and enter the courtyard.
The knight who saw Ye Qiyan hesitated slightly for a moment.
Then he spoke:
"You... no..."
"Are you the train conductor who prayed to the Holy City for years, the one who did not descend into the Holy City yesterday... that train conductor?"
Ye Qiyan narrowed his eyes.
There was a lot of information in that sentence, and it was all useful.
"If nobody else entered this world yesterday, then what you're referring to should be me. So—what are you going to do? Use a counterfeit train as a warhorse, knight?"
His gaze fell on the train beneath the knight's feet.
