Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling
Chapter 637: A Stolen SoulBeatrice was still exchanging flirtatious glances with Goldie Thorne. She was a master of the art, tilting her head for a shy smile before turning away to show off her lovely side profile and even lovelier curves. Any man would be utterly captivated by her wiles.
And Goldie Thorne was a perfect example. His heart had all but flown over to Beatrice, and he wished they could consummate their marriage that very night. He grinned foolishly and kept urging her to eat.
"Have some candy. These are White Rabbit. I bought them in Tristone, and they’re really good."
Goldie Thorne grabbed a handful of creamy candies. Nearby, Byron Thorne’s eyelid twitched, and he gritted his teeth. ’That damn spendthrift. He’s never this generous when it comes to his old man. But one little glance from that enchantress and she’s stolen his soul. Goddammit. I’m going to beat the life out of that little bastard later.’
Phoebe Huxley pursed her lips. ’Men are all the same, judging a book by its cover. Her own husband was no exception. Wasn’t he completely wrapped around that hussy Phoenix Golding’s finger back in the day? Of the three brothers, only the second one was decent, a truly faithful and good man.’
Beatrice was secretly pleased. She pursed her lips into a smile, shot another flirtatious glance at Goldie Thorne, and reached for the candies. She was a picky eater and looked down on common snacks, but she did have a soft spot for White Rabbit.
The Thorne family’s snack tray was filled with plenty of White Rabbit candies, as well as assorted sweets, nougat, peanuts, and melon seeds. A glance at the tray alone was enough to tell you that the Thorne family was indeed well-off.
"Thank you."
Beatrice whispered her thanks and reached for the creamy candies. Byron Thorne’s teeth ground together audibly. ’So many candies... she might as well be gnawing on my flesh! That feast just now already made my heart break with the cost, and the one-yuan red envelope for the matchmaker felt like a knife twisting in my gut. If this little enchantress eats all these candies too, she might as well just take my old life now!’
In a flash of inspiration, Byron Thorne spotted Dollar loitering by the door and had an idea. He got up, fetched a bone from the cupboard, and furtively tossed it near Beatrice’s feet. Tang Xiaonan saw the subtle action and immediately understood her grandpa’s little scheme. She decided to lend a hand, calling out, "Dollar!"
Dollar, who had been busy chasing the chickens and ducks, heard his little mistress’s voice and immediately bounded in happily. With his keen nose, Dollar quickly caught the scent of the bone. With a happy yelp, he charged toward Beatrice and tried to burrow under her skirt. Byron Thorne’s toss had been masterful, landing the bone right under the hem of her skirt, and since Beatrice and Goldie Thorne were so busy making eyes at each other, they hadn’t noticed a thing.
Beatrice had just gotten her hands on the creamy candies and hadn’t even begun to unwrap one when Dollar’s sudden lunge startled her. Her grip loosened, and the candies scattered all over the floor. The color drained from her face, and she let out a piercing shriek.
Playing the hero saving the damsel in distress, Goldie Thorne instinctively moved to kick Dollar, but Tang Xiaonan cried out, "Don’t you kick Dollar! You’re a bad man, Uncle!"
She then shouted, "Dollar, come back here!"
Having snatched the bone, Dollar obediently returned to Tang Xiaonan’s side, flopping down at her feet to gnaw on it with great relish. He even shot Goldie Thorne a disdainful look. Tang Xiaonan patted Dollar on the head. ’What a good boy,’ she thought.
She crouched down, picked up all the creamy candies, and put them back on the tray. ’I’m not letting this bad woman eat a single one. Hmph.’
Byron Thorne watched with a beaming smile, his pained heart instantly healed. ’My little granddaughter is so sensible,’ he thought, ’so much more sensible than that prodigal son of mine.’
Beatrice hadn’t gotten to eat the candy, had been frightened by a dog, and now she noticed that the Thorne family’s attitude was strangely cold. A sense of unease washed over her. Her smile vanished, and she shot Goldie Thorne a look of pure grievance.
