Transmigration: I Made A Deal With A Man in Yellow
Chapter 122: Here Goes Another OneThe trip to the Laurent Estate was nothing but peaceful, without any problems.
I spent most of the time sleeping in the carriage and only came out whenever we stopped to take a break or set up camp.
The road toward the estate was rough, but the carriage had strong wheels that managed to pass through the uneven terrain without a single problem.
Ten knights were escorting us, including General Lee, who was leading at the front on horseback.
I currently had one leg crossed over the other and was leaning my head against the window while looking at the landscape outside. Far ahead, I could see a huge mountain. It wasn’t as enormous as the ones in the Lands of Horror, but it was still huge nonetheless. That was where the Laurent family had their mine, which was one of their sources of wealth.
I saw farms and villages where some commoners lived. Some of the children who were playing together stopped when they noticed my passing carriage and waved at me with smiles on their faces, so I waved back.
The Laurents had a very good reputation among the people of the Laurent Duchy and its smaller towns, so it was understandable why the kids didn’t run away in fear at the sight of a noble. Instead, they greeted me happily.
Though, their good reputation was mostly because of the older generation. The current generation—Yves’ generation—were far too spoiled.
We also crossed paths with several noble carriages. They weren’t as luxurious as mine, but they were still decent for nobles. They were probably noble families under the Laurent Duchy.
Funny enough, they had to stop and offer their greetings whenever they saw me. I accepted their greetings but didn’t bother leaving the carriage, nor did we stop for them.
It just showed how much power you could have simply by being born into the right family.
There was another thing that I found weird, though I was slowly getting used to it.
There were no tall buildings anywhere.
I was used to my world being full of skyscrapers and tall buildings, but here in this world, there was nothing like that.
No cars, no bikes, no modern technology.
It was a really weird feeling. I used to scroll through my phone and watch reels until 3 AM or read books until late at night, so I couldn’t help but feel a bit bored now that I had none of those things.
Sitting in a carriage for hours wasn’t really that pleasant, despite how comfortable it was.
The good thing was that I always found something to keep myself busy in this world, so I probably wouldn’t need a smartphone to distract me.
I had to train my swordsmanship, understand how my Gifts worked, figure out what their limits were and whatnot. I also had to think about the things I would need to do in the future because planning ahead was always better than doing nothing.
So, all in all, this world was actually pretty fun.
Despite how dangerous it was.
We eventually came to a stop because it was already nighttime, so we set up camp and continued our journey the following morning.
The hours passed, and eventually, I could see the Laurent Estate from afar.
The estate was enormous.
Dozens of pure-black obsidian mansions could be seen in the distance, all standing at the top of a mountain.
From this path onward, tall Laurent flags stood on both sides of the road leading toward the estate.
Surprisingly, there was no one in sight.
We hadn’t come across a single person since entering Laurent territory.
Normally, a noble estate should have guards stationed throughout the surrounding lands to stop or detect anyone approaching, but the Laurents seemed to have no one.
Or at least, that’s what you would think.
"Can you sense them?" Ezio, who was sitting across from me, opened one of his closed eyes and asked.
I spread my senses as far as I could, but I couldn’t see or sense anything.
"No, I can’t."
"They’re around us and are masking their presence really well. They’ve been following us ever since we’ve entered Laurent territory."
By them, he meant assassins.
They were the ones responsible for guarding this part of the Laurent territory and represented the side of the family that was always kept hidden. That’s why the place looked empty.
It wasn’t empty.
You simply couldn’t see them.
Anyone who tried to do anything funny here wouldn’t even notice when their head had fallen from their shoulders.
That’s how deadly the Schatten assassins were.
I had tried both my senses, but I still couldn’t detect them. Normally, assassins were better at working at night, but the Laurents could hide in broad daylight thanks to their shadow powers.
"They’re most likely hiding in the shadows, right?" I asked.
"Yes. Most of them are, while the others who are really skilled are simply well camouflaged."
I nodded and kept looking outside.
The carriage followed the path up the mountain, which had been specifically modified for carriages, and after a few minutes, we finally reached the gates of the Laurent Estate.
The walls of the estate were at least three meters tall, with black metallic, see-through fences. They stretched far into the distance on both sides, so far that I could barely see the end of them.
The gates had the Laurent insignia in the middle, and they split cleanly in half as the gates began to open.
It seemed that they already knew we were on our way.
On top of that, I could feel a lot of powerful presences on the other side.
General Lee continued leading the way and passed through the gates first. The other knights followed, and then our carriage entered behind them.
As soon as we got inside, dozens upon dozens of black-armored knights lined up on both sides of the road. Each one of them had their sheathed sword planted into the ground while their hands rested on the hilts.
The auras they gave off were strong.
Each one of them was either at Peak Ascendant or above.
I looked away from the knights and toward the estate.
Good gracious, this family was rich.
There were gardens as wide as a football pitch, with dozens of black marble mansions spread throughout the place. I saw gardeners tending to the gardens, and from afar, I could even see a lake.
Despite all that, what caught my attention the most were the trees.
The path our carriage was passing along was covered with white leaves that had fallen from the white-blossom trees lining both sides of the road.
They gave the entire estate an almost ethereal appearance.
If the outside looked normal, this place looked like a paradise on earth.
The contrast was enormous.
We continued for a few minutes before a cul-de-sac came into view. Right in the middle was a large fountain with a statue of a tall man.
That was the founder of the family.
The carriage followed the circular path around the fountain and stopped right in front of the largest mansion in the estate. Several other carriages were parked nearby, each surrounded by their own knights.
"It seems like some of my siblings and cousins arrived around the same time as us," I said with a smile.
"Yeah, but the majority of them arrived days earlier." Ezio stretched his arms.
"Well, are you ready? They’re going to come for you."
"Let them come, because I’m always ready."
I smiled before putting on Yves’ cold and aloof expression.
I adjusted my clothes.
I was wearing an entirely black outfit consisting of black pants and a black long-sleeved shirt. Over my right shoulder was a wide black cape with a red interior, while my hands were covered by black gloves.
My hair was tied into a ponytail as usual with a silk hair tie, while several strands had been braided, just as I had requested from the maids.
And what can I say?
I looked really handsome.
Ezio sank into my shadow, and not long after, General Lee opened the carriage door.
"We’re here, young master."
I stood up and stepped out of the carriage with both hands inside my pockets.
The moment I got out, I could feel countless gazes directed toward me from different sides, but I acted as though I didn’t notice them.
I hope no one tries to bother me.
"Thanks for escorting me, General Lee."
"That’s my duty."
He bowed slightly.
"Then I’ll see you."
I nodded at him before starting to walk along the cobblestone path toward the mansion.
But just before I could reach the stairs, someone called out to me.
"Well, well, if it isn’t our good-for-nothing cousin."
A mocking voice came from behind.
I looked back and saw a boy with short snow-white hair and green eyes stepping out of one of the carriages. He wore a dark-blue outfit as he walked toward me.
I guess I had jinxed myself by thinking that no one would want trouble with me.
He stopped directly in front of me with a grin on his face. He was a few centimeters taller than me. I was around 1.70 meters now, while he was probably 1.75.
"Can I help you?" I asked without showing any emotion.
"Yes, you can. I want to know what useless thing you’re doing here. Why did you come out of your mansion?"
I removed one hand from my pocket and touched my chin, pretending to think deeply.
I didn’t reply.
"Why are you taking so long to answer?"
"Ah, sorry. I’m just trying to search through my memories because, from what I’ve seen so far, I don’t know who you are."
The boy frowned at my words, and a vein popped on the side of his forehead.
"What? What do you mean you don’t know me, you trash?"
"You heard what I said. I don’t know you, so stop bothering me."
I knew exactly who he was, but I wasn’t in the mood to deal with this kid.
Hmm, he’s Middle Ascendant.
I checked his mana.
The boy’s frown slowly turned into a mocking smile.
"Haha, just because you’ve awakened, now you think you have some sort of value to this family? You think you can act all cocky?"
Of course, they knew that I had awakened.
"When I first heard from my Shadow, I thought it was a lie. Now that I’m seeing you in person, I guess it wasn’t."
From the other three remaining carriages, two boys and a girl stepped out and began walking toward us as well.
"Congratulations. You’ve confirmed that it’s true, so I’ll go now."
I turned around and started walking again, but I was stopped when a hand grabbed my shoulder.
"I’m not done talking to you," he said angrily.
"And I don’t want to talk to you, so what are you going to do about it?"
This guy.
Did he really want to embarrass himself in front of everyone?
"It seems like you forgot how I used to beat you when you were younger. So let me remind you again."
The boy pulled his arm back, clenched his hand into a fist, and punched toward my face.
I sighed inwardly.
I really didn’t want to break someone’s face today.
Before the punch could even touch my face, I effortlessly stopped it with my own hand.
"Oh, you caught that? I guess you really did become a little stronger. But let me show you the insurmountable difference between us."
The boy tried to pull his fist back.
My fingers didn’t budge.
"What—"
"Remember, you started it first."
My right hand blurred.
Then—
Twack!
My fist slammed into his stomach.
"Gah!"
The boy’s eyes widened as saliva flew from his mouth. He immediately fell to his knees, clutching his stomach as he struggled to breathe.
I didn’t even use much strength.
Why was he already kneeling?
Everyone around us stared in surprise and shock, especially at me.
I crouched down slightly, grabbed his hair, and forced him to look at me.
"You should’ve just let me go. Now you’ve embarrassed yourself."
I shook my head in disappointment.
"So here’s another one. Be grateful that I’m not breaking your nose."
Twack!
I drove another punch into his stomach.
His eyes looked like they were about to jump out of their sockets.
"Ughhh!"
The boy slumped forward and fainted.
I stood up, brushed the dust off my gloves, adjusted my clothes, and continued walking up the stairs.
Behind me, the boy was eventually picked up by his own guardian.
’Embarrassiiiiing!’ Ezio laughed inside my head.
