Transmigration: I Made A Deal With A Man in Yellow
Chapter 89: Sister Friede [22]Her heels barely touched the ground as she shifted her weight onto the front of her feet and leaned forward. In the next moment, her body accelerated, gliding across the marble floor in a rapid zigzag pattern.
Left and right. Then left again.
Her movements were meant to confuse me. She constantly changed direction while closing the distance, making it difficult to tell which side her attack would come from.
Months ago, I would have tried to follow her with my eyes and guess.
But why should I play her game?
If I couldn’t predict which direction she would attack from, then I would simply choose the direction for her. I activated [Darkness Shaping] and my mana spread through the floor.
A row of black spikes immediately erupted from the marble on my right, cutting off that entire side before Friede could move there.
Her path changed instantly and she moved to the left.
Exactly where I wanted her.
The moment she entered my range, her scythe came toward me.
I brought mine down.
Clang!
Our blades collided, sending a shower of sparks between us.
The force traveled through my arms, but my stance remained firm. I had already positioned my feet properly before the impact, allowing my entire body to absorb the strength of her attack instead of relying only on my arms.
Friede immediately began pulling her weapon away.
I knew this movement too.
After an attack like that, she would lightly retreat on her toes and reset her defensive posture before I could take advantage of the opening.
I wasn’t going to let her.
I stepped forward and swept my scythe toward her legs.
As expected, Sister Friede bent her knees slightly, preparing to jump over the attack.
Except there was one problem.
The sweep wasn’t real.
The instant I saw her weight shift in preparation for the jump, I stopped the movement and twisted my wrists. Using the momentum already built into the weapon, I changed the horizontal sweep into an upward slash aimed directly at her chest.
For the first time, Sister Friede’s calm expression changed slightly.
She hadn’t expected it.
But she was still Sister Friede.
Her hands moved immediately. She spun the shaft of her scythe downward and placed it directly in the path of my rising blade.
Clang!
My scythe slammed against the shaft of hers.
The impact pushed Sister Friede backward, her feet skidding several meters across the marble floor before she finally regained her balance.
I remained where I was, my scythe still raised in front of me.
A grin slowly spread across my face.
Months ago, I could barely defend myself against her attacks.
Now...
I had made her react to mine.
’She’s going to lunge forward.’
Just as I predicted, Sister Friede barely remained still after being pushed back. The moment her feet stopped skidding across the marble, she leaned forward and exploded into motion, her scythe trailing behind her as she rapidly closed the distance between us.
I didn’t move.
I knew what was coming.
Sister Friede tightened her grip around the shaft and swung. The first attack came horizontally toward my neck, followed immediately by another from the opposite direction. Then came a third, a fourth, and several more without the slightest pause between them. Her scythe became a white-blue blur as dozens of attacks came toward me from different angles, leaving thin trails of frost hanging in the air.
She was trying to overwhelm me.
Months ago, it would have worked.
This time, however, I could see them.
I planted my feet firmly against the marble and held my scythe with both hands. My muscles tensed as the first frost-covered blade approached, but instead of retreating, I swung.
Clang!
The first attack was knocked aside.
My hands immediately changed position along the shaft as the second attack came from below. I rotated the scythe and intercepted it before twisting my wrists to meet the third.
Clang! Clang!
Sister Friede continued attacking.
So did I.
Our arms became blurs as her scythe attacked from one direction after another while mine moved to intercept it. Every collision produced another shower of black and white-blue sparks that scattered across the marble floor before quickly disappearing.
But unlike before, I wasn’t desperately reacting to her.
I knew these attacks.
I had spent months memorizing them.
I knew how her shoulders moved before a horizontal swing. I knew how her grip changed when she intended to reverse the direction of her scythe, and I knew how her feet shifted whenever she planned to transition into another attack. These were movements that had killed me before, movements I had replayed thousands of times inside my head and repeated until my own body understood them.
Most importantly, I wasn’t being pushed backward...my feet remained exactly where I had planted them.
During our previous fights, Sister Friede’s relentless attacks had always forced me onto the defensive. I would retreat and block whatever came toward me, too afraid of being cut to even consider attacking back. The moment I lost control of the fight, she would continue pressuring me until I made a mistake.
Now there was no reason to panic.
Why should I fear an attack when I already knew where it was going?
I didn’t need to defend against Sister Friede’s entire fighting style.
I only needed to dismantle each movement as it came.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Sister Friede’s scythe struck mine again and again until I noticed something different.
She frowned.
It was a small change, barely noticeable beneath her veil, but I saw it.
She had finally realized that something was wrong.
Her attacks suddenly accelerated.
The white-blue trails around her scythe became thicker as her movements grew faster and deadlier. The small pauses I had learned to recognize between her attacks disappeared, and the sound of our weapons colliding became almost continuous.
So I increased my speed as well.
My feet adjusted beneath me while my hands moved faster along the shaft. I still couldn’t perfectly match her, but I didn’t need to. I only needed to remain close enough to her rhythm to create the opening I wanted.
There.
The moment her scythe came toward my right side, I deliberately put more strength into my block.
Clang!
Instead of simply stopping her attack, I knocked her scythe violently toward the left.
Her defense opened.
Mana immediately surged through my legs.
I shifted onto the front of my feet and stepped into her range before she could recover. My right hand released the scythe while my left continued controlling it, and I drove my fist straight into her stomach.
Twack!
My knuckles connected perfectly with her stomach.
"Argh!"
Sister Friede’s body folded slightly from the impact before she was pushed backward. Her feet scraped loudly across the marble as she skidded several meters away from me.
For a moment, I simply stared at my fist.
Then a wide smile slowly appeared on my face.
Ahhh...
That felt good.
