Transmigration: The Tyrant General Can Hear My Thoughts
Chapter 280 - Two Hundred And Seventy NineChapter 280: Chapter Two Hundred And Seventy Nine
The door of the bedroom opened slowly as the doctor entered inside. Mr Murry bowed and left the room, leaving them alone.
Damon stood near the large bed. He crossed his arms tightly over his broad chest. His eyes were focused on the older man carrying the brown leather medical bag.
Dr. Aris walked over to the side of the bed. He set his leather bag down on the small table next to the bowl of cold water.
The doctor leaned forward. He looked closely at Camilla’s flushed, sweating face. He reached out his clean, wrinkled hands and gently placed his fingers on her wrist, feeling the rapid, heavy beating of her pulse. Then, he carefully lifted her eyelids, checking her eyes. Her pupils were dilated and unfocused, even in her sleep.
Damon watched every single movement the doctor made. His jaw was clenched so tightly that his teeth ground together. He felt a deep, twisting knot of fear in his stomach. He hated seeing her look so weak and fragile.
After a few long, quiet minutes, Dr. Aris slowly let go of Camilla’s wrist. He gently placed her hand back down onto the mattress. He reached into his bag and pulled out a small cloth to wipe his own hands.
The doctor turned his body around to face the General. His face was serious, but he did not look panicked.
"My lord," Dr. Aris spoke. His voice was calm, steady, and highly professional. "I have finished my assessment. It is sundew powder poisoning."
Damon’s eyebrows pulled tightly together in a deep frown.
"Sundew powder," Damon repeated the strange name softly. He had heard of many poisons on the battlefield, but this one was very rare.
"Don’t worry, General," Dr. Aris quickly reassured him, raising his hand slightly. "It is not lethal. The poison will not stop her heart, and it will not damage her internal organs."
Damon let out a small, quiet breath of relief. Knowing she was not going to die lifted a crushing weight off his shoulders.
But Damon was still deeply worried. He remembered exactly how she had acted inside the carriage. He remembered the intense, burning heat of her skin.
"But she is having a terrible fever," Damon asked, his deep voice full of concern. "Her body is burning up. And... she was doing some things she wouldn’t do normally. She was acting entirely out of character."
Damon remembered her wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. He remembered her kissing his skin and begging him not to leave. It was very different from her usual cold, sarcastic behavior.
Dr. Aris nodded his head slowly. He understood the General’s confusion.
"The fever is simply a physical reaction, My Lord," Dr. Aris explained smoothly. "Sundew powder is made from a rare toxic purple flower found deep in the southern swamps. When the fine dust is inhaled into the lungs, the body immediately recognizes it as a foreign invader. Her high fever is actually a good sign. It means her strong immune system is actively fighting the drug, trying to burn the toxins out of her blood."
The doctor paused. He looked down at Camilla’s sleeping face.
"As for the behavioral aspect," Dr. Aris continued, his voice dropping into a fascinating tone. "That is the true danger of the sundew powder. The drug does not attack the muscles. It goes straight up into the brain. It bypasses a person’s logic, their strict discipline, and their normal self-control."
Damon listened closely to every single word.
"The powder attacks the nervous system," the doctor explained clearly. "It breaks down the mental walls a person builds to protect themselves. Once those walls are down, the drug makes the victim hallucinate. It makes them see exactly what their heart truly desires the most."
Damon’s eyes widened slightly in shock.
"It brings their deepest, most hidden feelings entirely to the surface," Dr. Aris stated firmly. "If a person is secretly terrified, they will hallucinate monsters. But if a person secretly longs for safety and love, the drug will make them see the person who makes them feel the safest. They will act on their deepest desires without any shame or fear making them vulnerable."
Damon stared at the doctor. Then, he slowly turned his head. He looked down at Camilla lying on the soft sheets.
Damon thought to himself, his mind exploding with a sudden realization.
"She saw what her heart desires," Damon’s internal voice whispered in total awe.
He remembered her actions perfectly. She had reached for him. She had called his name. She had pulled his body close and kissed his neck. She had begged him to stay with her.
"She wasn’t just acting crazy," Damon realized in his mind, his heart giving a violent thump against his ribs. "The drug stripped away her mask. It stripped away her lies and her sarcasm. Underneath all her complaints, underneath her constant demands for a divorce... her true heart actually desires me. She feels safe with me."
A warm spark of hope ignited deeply inside Damon’s chest. He thought she hated him. But this situation had just exposed her deepest secret. She actually loved him back.
Dr. Aris let out a soft sigh, breaking into Damon’s deep thoughts.
"Unfortunately, there is no direct antidote for the sundew powder," the doctor said, shaking his head slightly. "The poison must run its natural course. It usually wears off on its own in about forty-eight hours as the body sweats it out."
Damon quickly snapped out of his hopeful thoughts. His protective instincts took control again.
Damon blinked his eyes. His frown returned instantly.
"Forty-eight hours?" Damon asked loudly. His voice was strict and commanding. "That is two full days. That is too long."
He pointed a finger at Camilla’s shivering body.
"She already looks like she can’t hold on much longer," Damon argued fiercely. "Her body is too small. She is too weak to endure a burning, exhausting fever for two entire days. We must do something to help her now."
Dr. Aris smiled a reassuring smile.
"Don’t fret, my lord," He replied softly, lifting his hand to calm the General down. "I understand your deep concern. While there is no direct cure to stop it instantly, I do have something to help fasten the healing process."
