Transmigration: The Tyrant General Can Hear My Thoughts
Chapter 314 - Three Hundred And ThirteenChapter 314: Chapter Three Hundred And Thirteen
The bedroom was bathed in a very soft, quiet darkness. The oil lamps had burned out, leaving only the pale, silver moonlight shining through the large glass windows.
After a long while of intense passion, the room was finally silent.
The loud panting and the heavy, ragged breathing that had filled the space just minutes ago had slowly subsided. The air felt warm and thick. They lay together in the center of the soft, messy bedsheets. Their bodies were covered in a light, cooling sheen of sweat.
Camilla rested her head comfortably against Damon’s chest. She listened to the steady thumping of his heart slowing down to a normal rhythm.
She lay there with her eyes closed, enjoying the warm silence. But all of a sudden, her mind became alert. She remembered that Damon was planning to ride into an ambush on the road to the royal palace tomorrow morning. She needed to secure her place by his side. She could not let him go alone.
Camilla decided it was time to break the quiet silence.
"My lord," Camilla said. Her voice was soft, quiet, and slightly raspy from the heavy breathing.
Damon held her securely against his side. His eyes were closed, enjoying the moment. When he heard her use his formal title, he frowned just a tiny bit. He did not want to be a General right now. He just wanted to be her husband.
Damon corrected her softly. "Damon."
Camilla heard his deep, gentle correction. She felt a warm flutter in her chest.
Camilla let out a very soft chuckle. The sound vibrated gently against his bare skin. She lifted her head slightly and corrected herself to please him.
"Damon," Camilla whispered sweetly into the quiet night.
Damon kept his eyes closed. A small satisfied smile pulled at the corners of his lips. He enjoyed the sound of his actual name coming from her soft lips. It sounded better than any military victory or royal praise.
Camilla took a slow, deep breath. She prepared to drop her demand.
"I want to go to the palace with you tomorrow," Camilla stated clearly. Her voice was soft, but it carried a very firm meaning.
The peaceful, relaxed atmosphere in the bedroom instantly shattered.
Damon’s eyes snapped wide open.
His brain immediately registered the danger. Tomorrow was not a normal trip to the royal palace. Tomorrow was a deadly trap. Only one will be alive. It is either the assassins or him and Kade. It was a suicide mission.
"The palace?!" Damon panicked internally, his mind racing. "She cannot go! It is unsafe! She will be in the middle of a bloody battle!"
Driven by panic and a desperate need to protect her, Damon reacted without thinking.
He forgot that Camilla was resting on top of his chest.
Damon quickly pushed himself up. He went into a sitting position with sudden speed.
Because of his sudden movement, Camilla lost her balance. She slipped right off his chest. She tumbled backward and fell to the side.
Her head hit the soft mattress with a light thud.
"Ouch!" Camilla exclaimed out loud, surprised by the sudden fall. She raised her hand and touched the side of her head, frowning in confusion.
Damon froze.
He looked down at her on the sheets. He realized what he had just done. He had just shared the most beautiful, intimate moment of his life with his wife, and then he had blindly dumped her onto the mattress like a sack of potatoes.
Horror and guilt washed over his face.
Damon bent his body down toward her immediately. He hovered over her, his hands moving with frantic, desperate speed.
"I’m sorry," Damon apologized rapidly, his deep voice shaking with real fear. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I swear."
He reached his hands out. He gently but quickly pushed her messy, disheveled hair away from her face. His eyes darted all over her skin, trying frantically to see if she was injured, bleeding, or bruised from the fall. He looked like a panicked man who had just dropped a priceless glass vase.
Camilla saw his terrified expression. She saw how incredibly guilty he looked.
She slowly reached her hand out. She firmly held his shaking wrist to stop his frantic movements.
"It’s fine," Camilla reassured him softly, offering a small, comforting smile. She rubbed his wrist gently with her thumb. "I’m fine. I wasn’t injured. The bed is soft."
Damon let out a shuddering sigh of relief. He closed his eyes for a brief second, thanking the heavens that he had not hurt her. He relaxed his tense shoulders.
But before Damon even knew what was happening, Camilla moved.
She did not stay lying on the mattress. She used her hold on his wrist to pull herself up.
In one quick motion, Camilla climbed over his legs and straddled his lap.
She sat down heavily on his thighs, bringing them incredibly close together again. Their naked bodies joined, skin pressing against hot skin. The sudden, intense physical contact sent a shock of heat straight back into Damon’s chest.
Damon swallowed hard. His throat felt dry. He looked up at her sitting on his lap in the silver moonlight. She looked like how she always look in his dreams.
Camilla raised her arms. She wrapped them securely behind his neck. She let her fingers play softly with the short, dark hair at the nape of his neck. Her touch was soothing, but also distracting.
She decided to change her strategy. Since demanding didn’t work, she would use a different weapon. She would act like a spoiled noble wife.
Camilla pushed her bottom lip out in a very small, cute pout.
"I haven’t been to the palace before," Camilla whined. Her voice was soft, high-pitched, and slightly childish. She batted her eyelashes at him. "I want to go."
Damon stared at her pouting face. He listened to her sweet, whining voice. He felt her fingers playing gently with his hair.
He was surprised but deeply intrigued by this sudden change. The cold, calculating woman who threw knives and slapped elders, was currently whining and pouting like an innocent girl. It was a side of her he had never seen before.
He found it adorable, and it made his heart beat a little bit faster.
But he could not let his affection cloud his judgment. He had to keep her safe from the ambush.
Damon reached his hands up. He gently cupped her cheeks in hispalms. He looked into her eyes, trying to sound as reasonable and comforting as possible.
"Next time, Camilla," Damon promised softly. His deep voice was gentle but firm. "I have an important meeting tomorrow."
He did not want to mention the real reason. He did not want to scare her with the truth.
Camilla saw his stubborn refusal. She did not give up.
She slowly moved her hands from the back of his neck. She reached forward and gently held both of his wrists. She pulled his hands slightly away from her cheeks.
She lowered her head. She pressed her soft, warm lips against the skin of his left palm, giving it a sweet kiss. Then, she moved her face and kissed the palm of his right hand.
Damon’s breath hitched in his throat. Her kisses on his hands felt like tiny sparks of fire.
Camilla looked back up at him, keeping her hold on his wrists.
"Some noble women will be there," Camilla reasoned smoothly, using high society rules as her excuse. "They will also come with their husbands."
Murry had told her that spouses were allowed to wait in the royal gardens during the council meetings. She was using that fact to press her case.
Damon shook his head slightly. He tried to discourage her logically.
"But..." Damon started to speak, intending to tell her that the journey was too long and the weather might be bad.
Camilla didn’t let him finish his sentence. She interrupted him.
She dropped her innocent act. She let her face fall into an expression of deep sadness. She made her eyes look vulnerable and suspicious.
"Do you have someone in mind you want to take with you?" Camilla asked softly, her voice trembling slightly, acting as if she were deeply hurt by his rejection.
Damon’s eyes instantly widened.
He stared at her in horror. He could not believe she would even suggest such a terrible thing. After he was sure of his heart and after they had just shared their bodies together, the idea of him taking another woman anywhere was completely insane.
"What?" Damon gasped loudly, his voice filled with shock. "Why will I take someone else?"
He was genuinely horrified by the accusation. He wanted to assure her that she was the only woman in the entire world he cared about.
Camilla saw his panicked reaction. She immediately seized the opportunity.
