The family meeting was set.
To be honest, Doha and Songrik didn’t think they’d be having a first family meeting with each other’s parents for the purpose of marriage.
But it needed to be done.
The Yeon family arrived first. Mirae and Soohi had brought a couple’s pajama set and a sleeping bag, respectively.
"Since you seem like you’ve practically moved in with Songrikki," Mirae said while handing over the bag. Songrik reddened while Doha was embarrassed.
"And this in case you get kicked out after fighting," Soohi handed him the sleeping bag, snickering.
Doha pulled on her nose with light’s speed and then rebuted any claim to the act.
They entered and were settled with Songrik in the living room. Apparently they had a lot of catching up to be done.
When did they even get that close?
Doha wondered.
But he was very nervous about the next family.
The Jang family with it’s seven members with the eighth being right there on the couch, impregnated by him.
He knew being honest about it all was his best bet but he was also kind of afraid that he might get murdered on the spot.
But alas the bell rang again anyway.
They were here.
Doha became all jittery and nervous.
The bell rang again.
Doha hurriedly opened the door and the parade of the Jang family entered.
Doha greeted everyone one by one except for Woojin who greeted him first since he was younger.
"Quite bold of you to invite us all busy people on your birthday party, boy," the grandfather said curtly while passing him an envelope nonchalantly with a cough. "I heard you got in college at top ranks. Think of it as an allowance."
The grandma also gave him an envelope with a sweet smile.
Then Taejon and his wife, gave him their envelopes. So did Songrik’s parents.
Doha was basically a small millionaire after receiving all the envelopes. But he wasn’t too happy about it.
He might have to return it all after they were done with their news of the day.
The Jang family met Mirae and Soohi, and somehow suddenly, the entire group of people seemed like they’d known each other for ages.
Doha was absolutely baffled and happy with this development but the pressure was still on.
He put on an apron, and began... cleaning the kitchen.
He needed that de-stress before the actual party began.
Jihwan was coordinating everything with the house help they had hired for the day.
So he effectively left his baggage (Ryujin) behind in the kitchen on the chair besides the refrigerator.
He looked drunk.
Apparently, another vampire drinking a vampire’s blood made the one sucked on drunk. Or drunk-like.
He just sat there and watched... Doha cleaning and cleaning again the obviously clean countertop.
"You got yourself checked for OCD?" He said at length.
Doha turned around and got somewhat spooked by finding Ryujin sitting there.
"How long were you sitting there?!" He squeaked. "God, you scared me!"
"I was here before you, at least," Ryujin answered. "So, you do cleaning work in part-time now?"
"You look drunk."
"I am not drunk but I am."
"..."
"Anyways tell me, why are you even cleaning the kitchen? That’s already the third time you’ve cleaned the same spot on the stove."
"I’m nervous."
"How does that explain the cleaning?"
"Ugh! I mean cleaning helps calm my nerves when I have something on my mind."
"Are you afraid to tell your both’s families about the baby?"
"That’s one thing. But I am just pretty overwhelmed with all this happening. I think I am fearful of not doing good enough and disappointing hyung."
"Oh come on, it’d be good for Songrik even if you just showed your face around."
"That’s.... so irresponsible. Is that how you usually talk? You remind me an awfully similar person."
"Huh? Who?"
"Well, I don’t remember her name anymore, I met her for the last time years ago. But she was just as snarky and irresponsible like you."
"Sounds like a pretty cool person. How did you know her?"
"... know her, huh? Well, you can say... she was like family..."
"Are you still in touch...?"
"...."
"...."
"...no. Because she’s dead..."
Suddenly blood came flowing down from Doha’s nose as he wobbled on his spot. Ryujin jumped up to support him up and Jihwan too noticed something was off.
Songrik looked in their direction instinctively and was startled by the sight of that much blood flowing out of Doha’s nose.
They had him settled on the couch near Songrik.
"Overworking yourself on your birthday is not a good thing, boy," the grandpa told him.
Doha just smiled awkwardly as held his head down along with the tissues in his nose.
"He gets them often nowadays," Mirae said concerned. "Maybe all that running around for years is finally catching up to him."
The two families started discussing the importance of health as Songrik hugged Doha’s arm, supporting him with warm comforting pheromones.
Ryujin was standing right behind them with Jihwan.
"You know, you remind me of someone too," he said, ruffling through his hair. "That person also cleaned a lot when they had something on their mind."
"Huh? Who was it?" Doha was confused that Oh Ryujin would know someone like that.
"Come on, don’t talk yet!" Songrik told Doha as he held his tissue up.
"That person was like a younger brother to me," Ryujin continued. "I too lost contact with him. But I sure think about him sometimes. How he must be doing..."
"Is that so?" Songrik asked. "What was his name? Did I know him?"
"Ah! His name was ... €^£|[]..." Ryujin said.
"Huh? I didn’t catch it, what was the name?" Doha asked once again.
"Oh, his name was Yoon Beom," Ryujin said.
They were all sitting right there surrounding Yeon Doha, so all of them saw it happen.
In a single split second, Yeon Doha vanished from existence. He disappeared into thin air like he had never been there in the first place.
