Characters

Main cast

Athereon—Lord Everwinter's name for Squirt, a greenling pixie huntress

Tobias—wolf shifter, pack member to Lord Everwinter. Has brown-gold hazel eyes, soft brown hair, is both overly friendly and overly oblivious to Telos’s love, too wrapped up in his own unrequited love for Lord Everwinter. Currently holds the title Chief Hunter of Everwinter.

Kenna—wolf shifter and pack member to Lord Everwinter. Beautifully feminine, she has long dark hair and violet eyes with tan skin. Her skill with a blade is unparalleled. She is hopelessly in love with Lord Everwinter.

Telos—a gender fluid elf arch magis with fluffy brown hair, they are pining for Tobias and have been for years. They go between feminine and masculine with the pronouns to match depending on time of year. Incredibly powerful and gifted in several schools of magic.

Lord Bartos Regali of Everwinter—the current title holder for the territory of Everwinter, a wolf shifter who has equal parts shifter and summer magic. Blue hair, dark skin, with one blue eye and one brown eye.

Prince Feldan of Skye Kingdom—the prince of Skye saved by Squirt in book one, only to turn around and announce his intention to court her. He’s playful and vibrant, a partier who has never really felt the weight of responsibility. He has light brown skin, soft brown hair, and violet eyes with more power than any other fey met so far.

Hunters

Zhadin—a shadowfell, a type of Night Fey, and currently a hunter by trade beholden to the Everwinter territory. Like most shadowfell, they have no distinct gender and have two forms. First is their fey form, where they take the regular humanoid shape, with their “hair” as their only visible tendrils.

Qzi—a redcap with blood magic, he’s noticeably smaller than most other redcaps. Though his hair is dark, in the light you can just tell it is a dark blood red, several shades darker than his red eyes. He is a hunter by trade and beholden to Everwinter.

Jul—a fire fata, he has bright red hair and eyes tinged with orange and an abundance of fall fire magic. He is currently a hunter trainee.

Vox—a rabbit shifter hunter trainee

Ala’ole—blue hair yellow eyes water fata of Valof Family who has offered her Family's crest to Squirt

Everwinter Fey

Zakam—bull shifter, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, minotaur and tauran forms

Lowvyn—Lord Everwinter's elven attendant

Instructor Gerald Hawke—Gray haired fey with a bushy mustache, instructor to the Everwinter Guard. Massive scar down one side of his face.

Vhgog—orc guarding the secret tunnel

Quint—the quartermaster, portly middle aged woman with onyx eyes and a wicked bamboo pole

Anvanil—A shy fey of unknown type, wears large round glasses and has soft pink hair of spring and burgundy eyes, freckled face

Evense—orc captain of the guard. Tough, resilient, excellent commander, not the most astute outside of the battlefield

Political Fey of Note

Queen Annabelle—Current Queen of the kingdom of Fer'ich, took it over recently in a coup to usurp her grandfather and has been working to root out corruption across the nation

Ranin—one of Queen Annabelle's mates, an army general

Brock—one of Queen Annabelle's mates, a leonid shifter

Zoln—one of Queen Annabelle's mates, a spy

King Gregar—the previous ruler of Fer'ich

Terms

Lumin—a term used by shifters to refer to their leader. This could be a term used to indicate a community leader, such as with a large pack that lives in a sprawling community, or a leader of a small family unit, a non-gendered term similar to matriarch or patriarch.

Archmagis—a granted title by the Council of Scholars recognizing supreme power and achievement in a magis (a mage). There are fewer than ten in the entirety of Fer'ich.

Knight—a granted title from a stronger fey to a weaker fey that imbues additional strength in the weaker fey, sometimes with specific abilities, in return for protection, security, and fealty.

The Royal Guard (also referred to simply as the Guard)—these are fey who have taken a pledge to the nation of Fer'ich as a whole to serve their fellows and protect. Generally, there are two roles for basic members of the Guard, either as a guard in populated areas or as a hunter in the Wylds. In the Outskirts, these roles are often one and the same.

Races

Ogres—standing between 6-8 feet tall, ogres tend to lack finesse with their magic but make up for it with sheer brute strength. Their bottom jaws grow tusks that they often compare with each other, as larger tusks are considered more desirable that often give them a lisp.

Dwarves— standing around 4 feet tall, they are usually as wide as they are tall. These muscular fey are often born with inherent resistances to things like capsaicin (meaning they have a taste for spicier foods).

Fata— standing around 6 feet tall, they are usually considered beautiful and powerful mages, these fey are elementals with particularly strong elemental magic.

D’mi—fey that share a merged soul with an animal and have that reflected in their bodies. They often are anthropomorphized animals, blended fur with humanoid body shapes.

Shifters—fey that share a body with an animal soul. Two souls inside a single body working together on a timeshare. Sometimes the instincts from their inner animal bleed over while in fey form, much like their fey instincts bleed over while in animal form.

Brownies— standing around 4 feet tall, they are similar to myths of halflings but covered in fur from head to toe, they tend to be weaker fey by nature, both in terms of magical ability and raw physical strength. Often have button noses like a cat or dog, with whiskers, and either fey ears or animal ears.

Pixies—standing around 4 feet tall, they are similar to myths of halflings but with wings. Their wings are magical constructs that pull in ambient magic, giving them a powerful magical boost as opposed to other fey. They are often considered strong enchanters, though unlike fata, they are often not desirable lovers as they are considered to be toys or pets behind closed doors.

Elves—standing around 5-7 feet tall, elves are originally born from trees in the ancient mythos and tend to have stronger connections to the Whims than other races, often using spirit magic to supplement their own.

Goliaths—Standing 8-9 feet tall, these fey are some of the biggest besides true giants (a race that has been lost to time). They are famously hairless, instead often tattooing their life stories over their skin in intricate patterns passed down through families.

Shadowfell—a fey born in the Shadow Plane who have migrated and intermingled onto the Material Plane. They can shift between the two planes naturally, creating portals as they do that they can control at will. They have no gender, and are able to produce the “equipment” needed to either reproduce with another or, more likely, reproduce asexually. They have two forms. The first is their fey form where their shadow tendrils are only on their head. The second is their normal form, wherein their lower half is exchanged for an abundance of thin, black tendrils made up of shadow matter from their home plane of existence.

Dullahan—known as headless horsemen, these fey are able to speak to the dead and are often either death dealers (those who can bring a fey back from the dead) or priests who banish the souls of the dead back to the Whims to be reborn again.

Fallen—similar to modern mythology on angels, much like pixies they have magical constructs for wings, though theirs are made based on bird wings rather than insect like pixies. They are born gifted in light magic and are native to the mountains of Om’pus.

Vampires—Natives to the shadowlands, they live by consuming the magic of other fey, as their bodies cannot produce their own. This is often done by consuming blood, but there are other methods that can be used.

Redcaps—chaotic fey built for battle, bloodshed, and slaughter. They do require blood in order to live, though they do not consume it directly, instead using feeding the blood of fey or beast to their hats. Though their blood magic is their strength, their hats are a double edged sword, as harming a redcap’s hat harms the redcap directly.

Feybeasts

Riiset—furry beast with paralyzing dust on moth wings and poisoned pinchers

Wa'vus—squirrel like with flamesacs

Ganok—bee-like creature with stingers out of its abdomen

Sarfac—unevolved form of chameleon cat/chameleon leopard

Chameleon Cat/Chameleon Leopard—a type of feline feybeast with the camouflage capabilities of a cuddlefish

Glasslizard—lizard like feybeasts covered in hard, partially see through scales, each scale made of hardened glass and razor sharp

Breezebird—silver feathers, avian feybeasts that can evolve into phoenixes

Favet—tiny pink marmoset with eagle wings and earth magic

Umberwolves—a pack of canine feybeasts evolve from shadow and fire magic. Each is part of a whole, and they share senses and thoughts fluidly. Killing one will temporarily weaken the pack, but the dead one will reform if given enough time.

Jewelbirds/Diamond Cranes—an avian feybeast that is born to protect sacred earth trees. Unlike other beasts, it is relatively harmless to those who are polite, preferring order and offerings over attacking fey, but will defend its earth tree to the death.

Native flora/fauna

Laughing Mushrooms—a type of mushroom that releases spores. These spores send targets into sweet dreams, and if exposed too long, will kill the target and feed the colony.

Blazing Ants—a native pest, a type of ant that releases a toxin that makes one feel like they are on fire. Incredibly painful and annoying to deal with.

se'lok—native ground berry that grew around the bases of trees with particularly strong roots

Faazi spores—a type of fungus used in medicine that induces dreamless sleep.
