Beatrix fell silent for a moment. When she spoke again her voice was steady and strong. "If I had to estimate, they were probably able to kill the poison dragon you killed in five minutes or less."

Neo nodded. The words settled in his mind like a cold weight. He would need to get rid of them. No hesitation. No second chances. Beatrix turned and left. He watched the deliberate sway of her ass as she walked away, the tight fabric of her clothes clinging with every step. He thought of Noir and felt a quiet pull in his chest. She had been a good woman. He would miss her.

He lay back on the bed and opened his system. The numbers glowed clear: 4.3 million mana stones. Enough to buy something worthwhile. He scrolled through the options, weighing each one, until the right choice locked into place. Blood manipulation. He bought it without delay.

The skill settled into him at once. He turned his focus inward and felt the flow of his own blood. With a thought he sped the circulation through his veins and arteries. Power surged. Muscle denser. Strength climbing. The increase kept climbing until it crossed a full star level. His bow combat strength now sat at roughly fourteen stars. Solid. Dangerous.

His stomach growled loud enough to break the quiet. Hunger hit hard. He stood and left the room, heading down the hallway to find Beatrix and ask for food. Through the windows the sun was dropping, light turning gold and low. He reached a turn in the corridor and walked straight into another woman.

Their heads cracked together. Pain flared white behind his eyes. It felt like driving his skull into a stone wall. Neo dropped to one knee, one hand pressed hard against his forehead. He forced himself up again and looked at the woman who had hit him.

Red hair the color of fresh blood. Green eyes sharp and bright. Skin so fair it looked like poured milk. A huge, heavy ass and thick thighs that filled the skin-tight black dress she wore. No shirt. Only two strips of wolf fur holding her massive breasts together. They bounced with every small movement she made. Neo’s cock throbbed hard against his pants at the sight.

She offered him a hand. "Your name is Neo, right? My name is Nara. I’m going to become your future colleague. Beside my husband. His name is Mark."

Neo took the hand and nodded. He inspected her strength at the same time. His eyes widened. Fifteen stars. And she was not a demon.

"You are a human?" he asked, the words coming out awkward.

She nodded. "Me and my husband Mark worked as high-ranking knights in some kingdom. After living there for five years, working all the time, we still couldn’t reach our financial goal. Beatrix came to us with an offer. Guarding a factory. Ridiculous high amount of mana stones."

Neo nodded again. Nara studied him. "What’s about you? What is the reason you’re working here?"

Neo grinned. "I have a condition that forces me to bed women always or I would die."

Her expression darkened. "I hope you get well."

His eyes dropped to the tight black dress stretched over her hips and thighs. "Your husband allow you to wear such clothes?"

Nara shook her head. "No. This was me choosing those clothes to wear. I saw all the devil women wearing the same clothes."

Neo nodded. Nara grabbed his hand and pulled him fully upright with easy strength. "Alright. Beatrix had called us. Dinner is ready. Let’s go now to eat."

He followed her. They walked side by side down the remaining hallway and into the dining room. A long table filled the space with many seats. At the far head of the table Zod sat in the main chair. Beside him sat a man with blond hair and blue eyes—Mark. When Neo’s hand settled around Nara’s waist, Mark did not look bothered. If anything, a flicker of excitement crossed his face.

Neo grinned to himself. He would not rush anything. During the time they spent guarding the factory he would have plenty of chances to make moves on Nara and watch exactly how Mark reacted.

He took the seat next to Nara. Food arrived. Beatrix came around the table and set Neo’s plate in front of him. While she leaned close he reached under the table and groped her ass, fingers sinking into the firm curve. Beatrix bit her lip hard. She would not make a scene in front of her master Zod. She only glared at him, sharp and warning, before stepping away.

Across the table Nara talked happily with Mark. Neo listened while he ate. From their words he learned they had not only worked as guards. They had been adventurers as well.

He turned to Nara. "What’s the difference between an adventurer and a mercenary?"

Her eyes lit up. She leaned in, voice rising with energy. "Many things. One of them is you join only one guild. There is a clear power scale and a path. You wouldn’t get forced to complete a weekly number of quests. There is no connection or fraud there. The only reason people do adventuring is simply because being a mercenary offered connection and finding missing people faster. That is why most mercenaries are three types of people."

She counted them off on her fingers. "Curious people like me and my husband. Criminals. Or people trying to find someone they lost."

Her eyes snapped back to his face. "Just what kind of people are you?"

Neo stayed silent for a moment. Then he said, "The last one."

Nara’s eyes sparkled. "Really? Who is the person you are trying to find?"

He held her gaze. The intensity of it made color rise in her cheeks. "My soulmate," he said.

She blushed harder and turned her head to the side, breaking eye contact. Neo grinned at the reaction. Under the table his hand slid onto her thick thigh. He gripped the soft, heavy flesh through the tight black dress and squeezed. Heat from her skin soaked into his palm.

"Stop it," Nara whispered, low enough that only he could hear.

He did not stop. His fingers kept working, kneading the thick muscle of her thigh, mapping the shape of her under the fabric. No one else at the table noticed. Mark kept talking. Zod stayed focused on his plate. Beatrix remained busy with serving.

Neo’s hand drifted higher. He found the edge of her dress and slipped underneath. Bare skin. Warm. Soft. He pushed higher still until his fingers brushed the heat between her legs. No underwear. He pressed one finger against her entrance and pushed inside.

Wet heat closed around the digit at once. He worked it deeper, slow and steady, then began to move it in and out. The soft, wet sound of his finger sliding through her was almost lost under the noise of the meal, but he felt every clench and every slick pulse of her body.

Nara’s hand flew up. She held her mouth shut.
