Triple X System

Chapter 361: Speed vs Displacement (2)

The silence after Koyuki hit the floor didn’t last more than a breath.

Kyle didn’t waste it.

If she wanted to play with displacement bursts and micro-thrusters, fine. But right now she was on her back, off-balance, and for the first time her eyes weren’t tracking him like a problem to solve—they were calculating damage.

That was enough.

He dropped his weight, driving his knee down toward her sternum. No fancy footwork, no feint. Just pure, committed force. Demons didn’t get faster than generals. They got heavier. Harder.

[She’s resetting her stance!] Snow barked in his head. [Left cuff at 90% output. She’s going to vent—]

Too late.

Koyuki’s teal-glowing cuff flared.

Bang.

The air under her back detonated outward in a silent pulse. Kyle’s knee missed by a hair as Koyuki’s body slid sideways, propelled by the burst like she’d been shot from a railgun. She rolled once, came up on her feet, and was already moving before Kyle could adjust.

"Wrong move." she said, and this time she meant it.

Her leg snapped out, not a kick—a redirection. She caught his descending arm, used his own momentum, and twisted. Kyle felt his shoulder wrench as she flipped him over her hip.

He hit the floor hard enough to make his teeth rattle.

But he didn’t stay down.

Demons didn’t.

Kyle rolled with the impact, shoulder popping back into place with a wet crunch, and lashed out low. His heel caught her ankle mid-stance. Koyuki’s balance wavered. For a split second, her perfect control slipped.

Kyle saw it.

He surged up, grabbing her collar, lifting her off the ground with a snarl. Her drones whined on her back, trying to compensate, but he was already slamming her into the nearest pillar.

Crack.

Synth-marble groaned. Dust fell from the ceiling in a fine white rain.

Koyuki’s breath left her in a sharp hiss.

[Now!] Snow said.

Kyle didn’t need telling twice. He drove his forearm into her throat, pinning her against the pillar, and cocked his fist back. No tricks. No abilities. Just the kind of punch that ended fights in back alleys and warzones.

Koyuki’s eyes narrowed.

"About time you got serious." she said.

Her right cuff flared again.

Bang.

The pulse didn’t hit him. It hit the pillar behind her.

The entire structure shuddered. Stone and synth-weave split down the middle, and the sudden shift in force threw Kyle off balance. Koyuki used it. Her knee came up, fast, brutal, catching him under the ribs.

All the air left his lungs.

He staggered back, coughing, and she was on him before he could recover.

This was what Koyuki did when she wasn’t toying.

Her strikes weren’t wide or dramatic. They were short, efficient, surgical. A palm strike to the brachial plexus to kill nerve response. A heel to the knee to compromise mobility. An elbow to the temple that made the world tilt sideways.

Kyle blocked what he could, absorbed what he couldn’t. His jaw split open on the second elbow. Blood dripped down his chin, hot and metallic.

[Her output’s spiking.] Snow said, voice tense. [She’s overclocking the cuffs. She can’t keep this up long, but if you don’t end it now~]

"I know!" Kyle snapped, aloud.

Koyuki’s eyebrow twitched. "Talking to yourself? That’s new."

She feinted left, dropped low, and swept his legs.

Kyle fell.

But he fell forward, rolling into the fall, and came up swinging. His fist caught her ribs. She grunted, but didn’t stop. Her hand shot out, grabbing his wrist mid-swing, and she used his momentum to pull him off balance again.

They were close now. Too close for thrusters.

Good.

Kyle’s forehead snapped forward.

Headbutt.

Bone cracked against bone. Koyuki’s head snapped back, but she didn’t let go. Her fingers dug into his wrist, and she twisted. Hard.

Kyle felt something pop in his forearm.

He hissed, but his other hand was already moving. He grabbed her by the collar again, pulled her in, and drove his knee up.

This time it connected.

Koyuki’s breath left her in a sharp gasp. Her grip loosened.

Kyle didn’t let go.

He slammed her into the floor, straddling her waist, pinning her arms with his knees. His fist rose, shaking with the effort of holding back his full strength.

"Yield," He said, voice rough. "Before I break you."

Koyuki looked up at him, blood at the corner of her mouth, hair a mess. Her chest heaved. Her cuffs were dark now—overloaded, cooling down.

For a second, he thought she might actually do it.

Then she smiled.

"That’s what you think." She said.

Her legs shot up, hooking behind his knees.

Kyle didn’t see it coming.

She flipped him.

One smooth, brutal motion, using his own weight against him. He hit the floor with a thud that shook the hall. Before he could recover, Koyuki was on her feet, standing over him, chest heaving.

Her cuffs were still cooling, but her eyes weren’t.

"You’re strong, Kyle." She said, breathing hard. "Stronger than most. But you fight like you’re trying to prove something."

She stepped forward, placing her boot on his chest. Not enough to crush. Just enough to remind him who had control.

"You’re not faster than me. You’re not more efficient than me. And you’re definitely not smarter than me."

Kyle stared up at her, blood dripping from his split lip, chest heaving.

[Get up.] Snow urged. [She’s right. You’re burning stamina. She’s conserving it. If you don’t change something.]

"I know," Kyle muttered.

Koyuki tilted her head. "What was that?"

He grinned, blood-stained and feral.

"I said—"

His hand shot up, grabbing her ankle.

She didn’t have time to react.

Kyle twisted, yanking her off balance. Koyuki went down hard, her back hitting the floor with a thud. The impact knocked the wind out of her, and for the first time, her expression shifted from cocky to surprised.

Kyle was on her before she could reset.

He grabbed her by the collar, lifted her up, and slammed her into the ground again. And again. And again.

Each impact made the hall shake. Dust fell from the ceiling in sheets.

[Kyle! Stop! You’re overextending!] Snow screamed in his head.

But he couldn’t hear her.

All he could see was red. All he could feel was the need to make her stop smiling like she already won.

Koyuki’s hands came up, catching his wrists. Her strength wasn’t less than his, just different. Efficient. She redirected his strikes, using his momentum to throw him off balance again.

But this time, Kyle was ready.

He let her throw him.

He used the momentum to roll, coming up behind her, and locked his arm around her throat in a chokehold.

Koyuki froze.

For a second, neither of them moved.

Kyle’s arm tightened. He could feel her pulse under his forearm, fast but steady.

"Yield!" he commanded, voice low. "Before I break your neck."

Koyuki didn’t answer.

Instead, she laughed.

A low, breathless laugh that made his blood run cold.

"Good." She grinned. "You’re finally fighting smart."

Her cuff flared.

Bang.

The pulse didn’t hit him. It hit the floor under them.

The entire section of synth-marble gave way.

They fell.

Kyle’s grip loosened as they dropped through the broken floor, into the lower maintenance level. Dust and debris rained down around them.

They hit the ground hard.

Koyuki rolled away instantly, coming up on her feet, breathing hard but untouched.

Kyle landed on his shoulder, rolling to absorb the impact. He came up slower this time. His arm was shaking. His ribs felt like they’d been rearranged.

Koyuki looked down at him, chest heaving, a thin line of blood running from her nose.

"You’re still standing?" She smiled, almost impressed.

Kyle wiped the blood from his mouth and grinned.

"So are you."

She smiled back.

"Good."

Her cuffs glowed faintly teal again.

Bang.

The air exploded outward as she launched herself forward.

Kyle braced.

This time, he didn’t dodge.

He met her head-on.

Fist against boot. Strength against speed.

The impact sent a shockwave through the maintenance level, rattling pipes and shaking the walls.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Koyuki’s leg gave out.

Kyle’s fist had connected.

She stumbled back, clutching her shin, a rare look of genuine pain crossing her face.

Kyle didn’t press.

He just stood there, breathing hard, blood dripping from his knuckles, eyes locked on her.

Koyuki stared at him for a long moment.

Then she laughed.

"You’re insane." She said with a light chuckle.

Kyle grinned.

"Told you. We haven’t started the fun part yet."

From above, Troy’s voice echoed down through the hole in the floor.

"Enough."

Both of them froze.

Troy stood at the edge of the broken floor, arms crossed, expression unreadable.

"General Koyuki. Stand down."

Koyuki hesitated for half a second. Then she stepped back, bowing her head slightly.

"Yes, your Majesty."

Troy’s gaze shifted to Kyle.

"And you. If you’re still standing after that, you’re useful."

Kyle wiped the blood from his mouth and gave a slow, bloody grin.

"Good. Because I’m not done yet."

Troy’s lips twitched. Almost a smile.

"We’ll see."
