Triple X System

Chapter 373: Rebirth Ritual

Kyle let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. Three weeks. It wasn’t permanent, but it was more than enough time to find Yua and get off this wretched rock.

"The first part of the transaction is complete," the deer stated, its glowing forehead now projecting a complex, floating array of golden and crimson runes into the space between them. "Now, seal the contract."

[SYSTEM NOTICE: COMPANION CONTRACT GENERATING...]

[- Clause 1: Both parties are strictly prohibited from inflicting direct or indirect harm upon one another.]

[- Clause 2: Both parties must actively intervene to preserve the other’s existence if threatened by mortal peril.]

[- Clause 3: Shared evolutionary path initiated. Companion growth directly scales with Host progression.]

The floating runic contract suddenly condensed into a single, sharp shard of crystallized blood essence. Without warning, the shard shot forward, slamming directly into Kyle’s chest.

Kyle gasped as a searing, white-hot heat surged through his veins. He could feel a foreign, ancient presence anchoring itself directly into his soul, wrapping around his core like a symbiotic root. The drain was immediate—a steady, heavy pull on his internal life force that made him momentarily drop to one knee.

He gripped his left hand as an agonizing burning sensation flared on his flesh. Right before his eyes, a jet-black and crimson insignia began to etch itself onto the back of his left hand. The lines twisted and turned with flawless precision, forming a stylized, sharp tattoo of a horned deer surrounded by runic chains.

The burning slowly faded, leaving behind a faint, pulsing glow on his skin.

Kyle pushed himself back to his feet, breathing heavily, his eyes locked onto the new mark of his servitude—and his power. He looked back up at the Rootcrystal Deer, expecting the creature to maintain its stoic, robotic demeanor.

Instead, the corners of the deer’s mouth twitched upward into a subtle, chillingly intelligent smile.

"An excellent binding." The creature telepathically spoken, its tone shifting to something almost conversational.

"Now that our fates are intertwined, let us return to your previous inquiry. Onto the next question.. regarding Vladimir’s blood puppets."

Kyle rubbed the back of his left hand, staring at the fresh, runic tattoo of the horned deer that now pulsed faintly against his skin. The heavy, energetic drain on his life force was a constant, rhythmic pull, but he forced his posture straight. His crimson eyes locked back onto the creature.

"Now that we’re bound by blood and soul, let’s stop dancing around the main issue," Kyle said, his voice dropping into a dark, demanding register. "Do you know Vladimir?"

The moment the name left Kyle’s lips, the atmosphere in the ancient clearing radically shifted. The subtle, chilling smile vanished from the Rootcrystal Deer’s face. Its posture stiffened, its ears pinning back as its entire facial expression contorted into an expression of raw, unadulterated dread.

The deer slowly nodded its head. "Yes," its telepathic voice resonated, no longer calm, but dripping with a centuries-old venom that made the wind hiss through the red leaves above. "How could I ever forget the one betrayer? The ultimate perpetrator of darkness on this world."

Kyle’s brow furrowed in deep confusion. *’Perpetrator of darkness? Betrayer?’*

He immediately pivoted his awareness inward. *’Snow, what the hell is this thing talking about? Vladimir is an adversary, sure, but what does it mean by betrayer?’*

[Searching planetary archives and universal database...] Snow’s response came with a rare hesitation. [I am unable to place my finger on it, Host. The historical records of Kraken from that specific era are heavily corrupted or intentionally expunged from the cosmic net. Whatever history they share, it predates the current system’s localized indexing.]

Before Kyle could press Snow any further, the deer’s glowing red eyes fixed onto him with a piercing intensity that felt like a physical weight pressing against his chest.

"There are some things best left buried in the sands of time, young demon," the deer whispered, the telepathic voice echoing with an ominous gravity. "Such as the true nature of your own past."

The words struck Kyle like a thunderbolt, dropping an absolute bombshell on his psyche. His mind fractured for a fraction of a second before a barrage of frantic, enraged questions burst from his throat.

"What do you know about my past?!" Kyle roared, taking an aggressive step forward, the earth cracking beneath his boot. "What do you mean by my past? And what the hell did you mean earlier when you said I need to survive what’s coming?! Answer me!"

The Rootcrystal Deer didn’t flinch at his outburst. It merely watched his rage with a cold, detached patience.

"I will grant you only one more answer for now," the deer replied sternly, the runes on its forehead flashing to enforce its boundary. "The path ahead is long, and knowledge given too soon is a poison. Choose your final question wisely."

A hot, suffocating wave of anger rushed to Kyle’s face. A thick vein throbbed on his forehead, his fists clenching so hard that blood almost seeped from his palms. He wanted to rip the answers out of this beast. He wanted to force it to speak. But looking at the dying time on Elara’s status and the sheer mystery of the clearing, he forced himself to maintain his rage. He swallowed the bitter taste of his personal curiosity and focused on the immediate threat.

"Fine," Kyle spat, his eyes glowing a darker shade of red. "Tell me about Vladimir. Give me everything you know about his presence on Kraken and his blood puppets."

It was a bizarre situation. The moment Kyle focused his intent on the blood puppets, his vision flickered as a system screen forced itself into his peripheral view. It was the same quest tab that had abruptly activated when he first encountered those wretched constructs upon arriving on Kraken.

But this wasn’t just any standard system quest that provided generic stat power-ups. This quest provided something far more dangerous: knowledge.

Kyle glanced at the floating text in the corner of his eye:

[QUEST: THE ROT OF KRAKEN]

- Objective: Uncover the true nature and origin of Vladimir’s blood puppets.

- Time Limit: None.

- Reward: A translated fragment of the personal diary of Athos, the First Demon King.

- Penalty for Failure: Absolute Death.

The lack of a time limit was a massive relief, but the penalty sent a cold shiver down Kyle’s spine. *Absolute Death.* He wasn’t entirely sure how the system would enforce that failure condition, but he knew better than to test it. The reward, however, was staggering. A piece of the first demon king’s diary could unlock everything he needed to grow his power.

The deer let out a low, heavy breath, its tone becoming incredibly deep and weighted as it began to speak.

"Vladimir first arrived on this world centuries ago," the deer narrated, its eyes staring blankly at the massive 24-meter crystal behind it. "It was during the era we call the Great Liberation. He did not come as a conqueror at first. He was welcomed by all. He brought warnings of a cataclysmic, coming storm, and he offered a brilliant solution to curb the cosmic threat before it reached our skies."

The deer paused, the silence in the forest growing so absolute that even the rustling leaves stopped.

"But little did our ancestors know... he *was* the main threat," the deer’s voice dropped into a chilling register. "Alongside Lucifer, they laid waste to the entire planet of Kraken. They did not just conquer it; they corrupted its core, manifesting the entire world into a monstrous, living anomaly born entirely from their shared hatred, malice, and darkness."

As Kyle listened to the deer’s description, a strange, sickening sense of deja vu washed over him. The imagery of a world being choked by a tide of pure, sentient darkness felt intimately familiar. It perfectly mirrored a cosmic vision he had received a million years ago—or what felt like a million years—the exact moment he had first acquired the System. The pieces were starting to align, and the scale of it was terrifying.

"Vladimir is not an ordinary sorcerer or a rogue necromancer," the deer continued, snapping Kyle out of his thoughts. "He is a prominent member of a powerful, ancient vampire syndicate. Specifically, he is a Lord of the Ninth Cycle of the Seventh Order. He is famously known across the outer realms for worshipping a forgotten deity—the Death God. An entity fundamentally linked to primordial darkness and the termination of all life."

The deer stepped closer to the ancient tree, its hooves tracing the glowing seals. "Vladimir’s current directive on Kraken is to build an unyielding army of blood puppets. But this planet is just a prototype. His ultimate goal is to colonize and harvest dozens of worlds, transforming them into planetary anomalies just like Kraken, all to facilitate the rebirth of the Death God. He is harvesting every soul on this world to feed the entity and accelerate its resurrection."

Kyle’s eyes widened in sheer horror, his breath catching in his throat. "Harvesting entire worlds... that would mean millions of souls."

The deer turned its head slightly, its gaze hollow. "Billions, young demon. Billions by the time his ritual is completed."

A heavy, suffocating silence fell over Kyle. He fell deep into his own thoughts, a sudden wave of inadequacy washing over him. How naive had he been? He had been blindly running around this planet, driven solely by a localized, petty desire for revenge against Vladimir’s constructs. He had completely failed to think about the grander scope of the universe, or consider what other apocalyptic mechanisms were turning in the dark. He was fighting a war on a chessboard he couldn’t even see.

Trying to regain his footing, Kyle cleared his throat. "I encountered his constructs at the perimeter. I managed to eliminate a couple of Vladimir’s blood puppets out there. If I keep tearing them down-"

The deer immediately shook its head, letting out a dismissive, low snort. "Vladimir does not descend upon a world like Kraken to manage trash. Trust me, young demon, no matter how many of those low-tier scouts you slaughter, it changes nothing. He has much bigger plans, and those puppets are entirely expendable to him."

"Then how many does he have?" Kyle pressed, his anxiety spiking. "What is the exact number of blood puppets Vladimir has stationed here on Kraken?"

"More than enough to drown this forest in blood," the deer replied cryptically. "But you are asking the wrong question. Do not assume he is the only entity pulling the strings of the dead on this rock. It isn’t only him in control of puppets here."

Kyle opened his mouth to press for clarification, his mind racing to ponder who else could possibly possess that kind of necro-mechanic authority on a corrupted planet. ’Another Lord? Or maybe’

Before he could form the words, the Rootcrystal Deer’s physical form suddenly began to destabilize. The solid, sleek body of the beast dissolved into a dense, swirling cloud of dark red fog. The mist shot forward with blinding speed, wrapping around Kyle’s torso before aggressively pouring directly into his chest, retreating into the soul bond insignia on his left hand.

"Our conversation is at an end for today. Prepare yourself," the deer’s parting whisper echoed in his mind before completely fading into his core.

Kyle stumbled back half a step, gasping as the sudden influx of the beast’s spiritual essence settled within him. He gripped his left hand, the tattoo glowing brightly before dimming to a faint, resting outline.

Just as the crimson fog completely vanished, a soft, mechanical hiss broke the silence of the clearing.

Behind him, the emergency life support shields of the Aegis-V suit completely dissipated. Kyle spun around instantly, his heart charting up into his throat.

Inside the pod, Elara’s long, dark eyelashes fluttered. She let out a soft, ragged gasp as her eyes slowly blinked open, staring blankly through the glass visor at the crimson-tinted world around her.
