"Thank you, Lucian.

House Veyr owes you."

The Vampire Noble shook Lucian’s extended hand, formally acknowledging the deal. Lucian shook his hand back.

Honestly, he was a little disappointed.

Silvian was a Noble Vampire and Noble Vampires were strong, ridiculously strong. Not to mention this one was Rhydan’s friend. From the blows he exchanged with Rhydan, Lucian now understood Rhydan’s personality to some extent. He understood what sort of friends the Wolf usually made.

If the Vampire was even remotely close to what he was imagining, Lucian knew he had hundreds of tricks hidden up his sleeve.

Just the thought of facing someone like him excited him, it made his blood rush and a different form of power coursed through his body—

In any other situation, he would have thrown caution out the window and challenged the Vampire anyway, but today...

Lucian stared at Naomi, who was still standing behind him and the excited rush he felt started to die down.

Today was not the day he could run amok and do whatever he pleased.

Today, only Naomi mattered.

He needed to be at his strongest to protect her from any possible threat.

So he held Silvian’s hand firmly and before Naomi could see his expression and understand what he was thinking, his expression changed and he let out his usual carefree laugh.

"I am going to suck House Veyr dry~"

Silvian only let out a dry laugh, a part of him already regretting his decision.

Then, after a small sigh, he took something out of his pocket and extended it towards Lucian—

"Whenever you desire to call in your favour, come to the Veyr Mansion and show anyone this."

Lucian’s eyes shone as he stared at the badge.

"I really am in a supernatural world, huh? They even have badges like these."

He spoke as he stared at Naomi. She too was staring at the badge with glowing eyes. Then, she glanced at Lucian and—

"Don’t wait too long before cashing in the favour. Most of the time, when the main character receives such badges, by the time they use it, it becomes kind of useless or worse, the House that owes them either loses power or gets destroyed."

Silvian blinked at those words.

This Human...

Did she not know he was listening...?

The worst part about the conversation was that Lucian was nodding as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"I know that, of course."

"I am just telling you to be careful."

"Yeah, yeah."

"Bleed ’em dry."

Naomi raised her thumb, cheering Lucian on and Lucian smiled.

Silvian’s mouth twitched. He felt like if he stayed there any longer, he might hit the Demon himself. So, not wanting to go back on the deal he had just made—

"I shall take my leave now."

He showed a gentle smile, then he moved towards the corridor his subordinates were in. Lucian and his group heard some noise, it was probably the Trial Beast facing Silvian.

The sounds died within seconds, signalling the end of the battle, then Lucian’s group saw a bright silver light.

The Waymark was absorbed.

Just like that.

"Welp."

Lucian shrugged at that as he then turned towards his teammates.

"Shall we go?"

"Well, we do need another Waymark."

Sabine nodded, staring at the single empty slot left on Lucian’s arm. One more and they would all have the right to meet Aevrienne.

The group turned towards Naomi, very much ready to use her.

"Stop looking at me like that."

Naomi stared at them with a flat look on her face.

"You are being useful for once, I must cherish this sight."

Lucian smiled.

Naomi glared at him.

"I am not your treasure detector."

"You are.

You just don’t know it yet."

Lucian chuckled.

The other two girls laughed as well.

Then the group moved as well, walking into another corridor opposite the one Silvian and his people had walked into.

For a while, nothing happened.

Naomi led them through several turns, following the same feeling as before. Lucian remained by her side. The group had gotten comparatively closer and were at ease around each other.

But then—

Lucian stopped again.

At this point, the others knew that a sudden halt like this meant something or someone was around.

"What is it?"

Naomi asked.

Lucian’s expression had changed.

He...

He could smell blood.

Lots of it.

"Come with me."

He spoke in a serious tone. The girls followed, the playful mood of the group instantly disappearing.

Lucian followed the scent and sure enough, the group finally saw him.

A man sat against the wall at the end of the corridor.

At first glance, he looked like he was dead.

His clothes were torn apart, blood covered most of his body, some of it was fresh, some had already dried up. His legs were bent at unnatural angles, clearly, the bones were broken.

And they weren’t just broken at one point—

Lucian could see about twelve very clear deformities in one leg alone. His other leg and arms were in the same state.

His fingers were broken individually, each a little differently, showing this wasn’t done all at once—

It was done one by one.

Slowly, very carefully.

Lucian could also see the torn flesh, muscles, and some gory, bloodied organs that had been pulled out. He could see parts of his skin peeled off, some of it burned.

There were deep cuts all over his body, on his arms, chest, thighs, but at the same time, Lucian could also see that none of these cuts were on any of the major arteries.

He could tell that every single wound was made very carefully, making sure the man did not die.

His fingernails were gone, several teeth were missing, one ear was partially torn, and around his throat were dark bruises from something that had repeatedly tightened around his neck without actually strangling him to death.

"Kkharrkkk!!"

Naomi actually threw up when she saw that.

Lucian quickly patted her back, his eyes, however, never left the man in front of him.

There was no explanation needed.

He knew what had happened here.

Varek.
