Chapter 128: Chapter 96: Zombie King

The room was slightly dim and simply furnished.

On the right was a bed with a vanity beside it. A bookshelf stood to the left, and a landscape painting hung on the wall directly opposite the door.

Jiang Mu carefully surveyed his surroundings.

His gaze finally settled on the only relatively bare wall.

He walked over and tapped the wall, but he couldn’t tell if there was a hidden compartment inside.

With a thought, Jiang Mu threw his Demon Shadow at the wall.

WHOOSH!

It passed right through.

But he had used too much force, and it went straight outside the house.

’Looks like it’s just an ordinary wall. No secret room or anything behind it,’ he thought.

Jiang Mu retrieved it and threw the Demon Shadow at the wall again.

This time, he carefully controlled the force, making it stop right in the middle of the wall.

He used Instant Teleportation again.

And so, Jiang Mu found himself stuck right in the middle of the wall.

Half his body was inside the wall, the other half outside, making him look like a relief sculpture embedded in the plaster. The scene was somewhat comical.

However, once inside, he discovered there was indeed a hidden compartment.

Jiang Mu strained to turn his head, using the sharp vision from his Earth Inspection Star Divine Abilities to look around. The moment he did, his scalp went numb.

A man was staring straight at him!

It was Han Chenghu!

To be precise, it was Han Chenghu’s corpse.

For some reason, his head was still intact, but his body below the neck was severely decomposed, revealing stark white bones and shriveled flesh that emitted a thick stench of death.

Even stranger, several yellowed Talismans were stuck to the corpse, the cinnabar ink on them faded and dim.

Jiang Mu sucked in a sharp breath.

’The evidence is conclusive!’

’That slut Madam Han... she was probably caught having an affair by her husband, so she went all in and killed him. Then she found a look-alike to take his place.’

’What a vicious woman!’

’And she even stuck Talismans on him?’

’Was she afraid her own husband would turn into a zombie, crawl out, and come for her life?’

Just as Jiang Mu was pondering this, a sudden change occurred.

Two points of scarlet light suddenly glowed in Han Chenghu’s hollow eye sockets. They were sharp as needles and seemed to focus, truly looking at Jiang Mu.

At the same time, the Talismans on his body ignited without a breeze, turning to flakes of ash that rustled down.

’What’s going on?’

Jiang Mu’s heart leaped, and a strong sense of foreboding washed over him.

A sense of crisis followed close behind.

’Fuck!’

’Is this guy really coming back to life?’

"...The scent... of the living..."

Han Chenghu’s lips twitched. His voice was dry, and every word was saturated with the heavy aura of death.

WHOOSH!

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Mu used Instant Teleportation to get out of the wall. He drew his saber with a reverse grip and slashed down at the wall!

The archives of the Demon-slaying Bureau recorded that:

Zombies were formed from condensed resentment and nourished by baleful yin energy.

They fed on the Essence Blood and resentment of living beings.

An ordinary zombie was little more than a walking corpse, but if its resentment ran deep enough and it was refined in a place of yin, it could become a "Zombie King."

Their power... was no less than that of a Tier Nine Great Demon!

BOOM—!!

The wall exploded, sending rubble flying.

However, as the dust settled, the space within the wall was empty. Han Chenghu was gone.

’Where is he?’

Jiang Mu felt something and slowly looked up.

He saw Han Chenghu hanging upside down from the ceiling beam like a gecko, his scarlet eyes glowing as he stared down at him.

HISS HISS... The surrounding walls began to crackle.

Countless black and red vines, shaped like the veins of a leaf, burst from the walls and spread frantically...

In the blink of an eye, they had completely sealed the doors, windows, and all four walls.

Jiang Mu tried to throw his Demon Shadow to break out with Instant Teleportation, but found it was repelled by an invisible barrier.

’He sealed the space?’

This zombie’s Cultivation Level was far beyond his estimation.

’Dammit!’

At that moment, Jiang Mu wanted to tear that bitch Madam Han to pieces.

’Did she raise her own husband into this kind of monster by having affairs in front of the wall every day, feeding him with her resentment?!’

Just as he was about to attack with his saber, a thick black fog suddenly surged into the room.

The once-bright room was instantly plunged into pitch-black darkness, so dark he couldn’t see his hand in front of his face.

...

...

「Meanwhile, in Lan Rou’Er’s chambers.」

Madam Han and "Han Chenghu" were standing to the side, watching Chu Lingzhu perform acupuncture on her unconscious niece.

Chu Lingzhu deliberately slowed her movements, lightly inserting and twisting the needles into several acupoints on Lan Rou’Er’s face while explaining with an air of expertise:

"Rou’Er fainted due to emotional distress causing her Qi and Blood to suddenly reverse course. It’s nothing serious. Acupuncture will clear the blockage."

As she spoke, she looked apologetically at Madam Han and the man beside her.

"When I saw Rou’Er suddenly collapse, I panicked for a moment. That’s why I had Young Master Han trouble you both. I’m truly sorry."

Han Yushu quickly waved his hands.

"Miss Chu, you’re too kind. We’re the ones who failed to take care of my cousin. We’re always troubling you..."

"Is this a lingering effect from the last time Rou’Er was possessed?"

Madam Han frowned and interrupted.

Chu Lingzhu shook her head.

"I don’t believe so. Lord Jiang already performed a thorough exorcism for her last time, so there shouldn’t be any lasting symptoms. Rou’Er is simply frail. She just needs to rest and recuperate. It would be best to brew some—"

Before she could finish, a loud "BOOM" suddenly echoed through the house.

Everyone in the room was startled.

Han Yushu looked completely bewildered. "What was that?"

"That’s..."

Recognizing the source of the sound, Madam Han’s expression changed drastically. Her eyes turned cold in an instant, and without another word, she rushed out of the room.

"Han Chenghu" followed close behind her.

Han Yushu hesitated for a moment before deciding to stay in the room.

Chu Lingzhu blinked, wondering to herself, ’Could that have been the Boss?’

A faint sense of foreboding crept into her heart.

Logically, Jiang Mu was only here to investigate and gather evidence, not to slay demons. There was no need to cause such a commotion.

This noise could only mean one thing—

things had spiraled out of control!

’The situation has changed. I need to get out of here, fast!’

Chu Lingzhu’s mind raced, and she immediately made a decision.

The silver needle between her fingers dipped, piercing an acupoint on Lan Rou’Er’s neck and pulling her out of her stupor.
