Two Realms: I Will Become the Immortal Emperor

Chapter 292 - 264: Merely Contending for an Opportunity

Chapter 292: Chapter 264: Merely Contending for an Opportunity

’So this is serendipity,’ Chen Che thought. ’If I hadn’t stumbled upon this tonight, I might have gone my whole life without ever seeing it again.’

Chen Che’s eyes narrowed.

The Jade Pendant in his hand wasn’t just made of the same material as the other man’s—even the patterns on the edge and the fracture line matched up perfectly.

Back when Ye Jingzhou was still alive.

The Han Family, vying with Jinyun Valley for the Wuyin Ore Mine, had set an ambush for him on the Black Water Riverbank. But he turned the tables, tracking them back to their den and killing Han Zaiyin directly. It was from Han Zaiyin’s Storage Ring that he had obtained one half of the Jade Pendant.

Later, while going through the man’s journal, he discovered that the Jade Pendant was the key to True Master Chixia’s Traveling Palace.

Completing the Jade Pendant would reveal the palace’s location.

Han Zaiyin had spent the rest of his life searching for the other half, slaughtering nearly everyone connected to it, but had found nothing.

After acquiring his piece, Chen Che had also investigated, both openly and in secret, but had come up empty-handed as well.

’It actually ended up in the Mortal World. No wonder Han Zaiyin searched for half his life and came up with nothing. But since its original owner died in battle here, the story of how it was passed down has likely been lost to time.’

Chen Che was lost in thought.

But none of that mattered. Mortals had short lifespans. Without written records, the origins of many things were easily lost.

What mattered was getting his hands on that Jade Pendant.

SWOOSH!

Just as he was thinking, a sound of rushing air broke the silence. A strange-looking black crow flapped its wings in the night sky and landed on Wu Ming’s shoulder.

The crow was pitch-black from head to tail, with a plume of feathers on its head like a peacock’s, and it emanated a strong Demon Qi.

The Black Crow seemed to whisper something in his ear. Wu Ming’s brow furrowed, and he slapped his White Tiger, saying:

"Alright, that’s enough feasting. We have to go, can’t be late for important business."

After saying this, the White Tiger swallowed the last mouthful of black mist, glanced back at the battlefield with what seemed like reluctance, and then shot off into the distance, a plume of black mist erupting from its paws as it transformed into a streak of dark light.

’He’s leaving already?’

Chen Che’s eyes narrowed. He watched the churning black mist, then glanced back at the battlefield.

There were still plenty of remnant souls here—at least sixty percent of them remained—yet the man had suddenly abandoned them and left.

’Did he sense something?’

Chen Che speculated to himself, then shook his head.

’Perhaps it has something to do with that Black Crow.’

The man was the head of the Wu Family, a position equivalent to that of Meng Changtu. This battlefield wasn’t far from the Wu Family’s territory. Perhaps his family had sent news, or perhaps the Black Crow had relayed a message that made him suddenly change his plans.

’Since you’re here, you’re not leaving.’

With a wave of his hand, Xuan Peng shot into the sky. Chen Che stepped aboard and immediately gave chase, riding the wind.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

An opportunity like this might never come again.

What if the man had some other means of foreseeing danger and retreated to the safety of his clan? Then wouldn’t he have missed his chance at the other half of the Jade Pendant for nothing?

’I never thought the day would come when our Five Races would join forces.’

Recalling the Black Crow’s words, Wu Ming couldn’t help but grin.

Although the Five Races were all under True Master Duobao’s command, how could there not be factions among them? If it had been any other Foundation Establishment Influence, they might have stood by and watched, letting the Jin Family and their enemy destroy each other.

But as luck would have it, their opponent was connected to True Master Thousand Eyes.

If they suffered a disgraceful loss, True Master Duobao would be the first to punish them.

’I heard that to recruit the Meng Family, Thousand Eyes offered half of True Master Chilong’s legacy. If I could get my hands on that...’

"CAW!"

Just as he was thinking, the Black Crow on his shoulder suddenly let out a piercing cry.

Startled, Wu Ming looked back to see a colossal shadow suddenly blotting out half the night sky. It descended without the slightest warning, its two giant claws dropping like a cage, locking down the very space around him.

As the head of his clan, Wu Ming recovered his composure in an instant.

"Go!"

He waved his hand, and the screeching Black Crow shot forward to meet the threat, its wings beating powerfully.

The Black Crow was initially no bigger than a pigeon, but the moment it left his shoulder, its Demon Essence flared. In an instant, it swelled to dozens of feet in size, shrouded in black Demon Qi, and lunged forward with even greater ferocity than its attacker.

For a moment, it was like a black cloud engulfing the world.

"You dare ambush me from the sky? Have you asked my Celestial Fate Crow for permission?"

A sneer touched Wu Ming’s lips as he spoke.

He had raised this Celestial Fate Crow since he was a child. Though it was only at the Late-stage Foundation Establishment Realm as an adult, it had an incredibly fierce, fearless nature. Even Great Demons of a higher Realm were not always its match.

"CRACK!"

The words were barely out of his mouth when a crisp cracking sound echoed through the air.

To Wu Ming’s horror, the Celestial Fate Crow’s wings snapped. Its massive body couldn’t withstand the crushing force of its opponent and was slammed straight out of the sky.

BOOM!

It hit the ground like a meteorite.

The Celestial Fate Crow was smashed brutally into the ground, which collapsed under the force of the impact. Its wings were bent outward at an unnatural angle, clearly shattered by the blow.

It struggled desperately, but it was pinned firmly to the earth, unable to break free.

"Do we have some kind of grudge?"

The White Tiger somersaulted to evade the blow and landed gracefully on the ground. Wu Ming glanced from a distance at his grievously wounded Celestial Fate Crow, his voice turning cold. "Friend, do you not fear being hunted to the ends of the earth by my clan for this attack?"

The attacker had appeared out of nowhere and effortlessly subdued his Celestial Fate Crow, filling Wu Ming’s heart with dread.

If they were to fight, the outcome would be uncertain.

"Of course I’m afraid!"

Chen Che shot him a grin and, with a flick of his wrist, sent the Pure Jun Sword hurtling toward him like a gale-force wind.

"You’re courting death!"

Wu Ming was both shocked and furious. The White Tiger beneath him took to the air, riding the wind up into the sky.

Anyone would hesitate when faced with the threat of retaliation from the entire Wu Family, yet his opponent didn’t even pause. In fact, his attacks grew even more vicious; he clearly had no intention of letting Wu Ming leave alive.

"Go!"

Before taking flight, Wu Ming flicked his wrist, and an exquisite scroll appeared in his hand. The scroll expanded in the wind, and with a low hum, it shot forward as a streak of white light, wrapping itself tightly around the Pure Jun Sword.

"SCREEECH!"

The scroll was made of a material that was neither paper nor silk, and its surface was completely blank. Whatever it was made of, it was clearly a Tier Three Magical Artifact.

As the sword’s edge scraped against the scroll, it produced the piercing screech of metal on stone.

Sparks flew, but the scroll remained completely unscathed. It coiled like a long snake, attempting to bind the Pure Jun Sword.

’Huh? What kind of Magical Artifact is this?’

Seeing his Pure Jun Sword neutralized, Chen Che, surprised, waved his hand and summoned the Red Dragon Lock Chain. With a howl of wind, the chain transformed into a great, flaming dragon and coiled toward the scroll.

CLANG!

The scroll unfurled, and its end-rod shot out like a bolt of lightning, smashing head-on into the Red Dragon Lock Chain.

"BOOM!"

The two artifacts collided. The scroll trembled violently, its radiance dimming as it was knocked backward like a stunned snake.

"The Red Dragon Lock Chain!"

To Chen Che’s surprise, the man recognized the Magical Artifact at a glance and exclaimed, "You’re Chen Che of Jinyun Valley!"

Chen Che remained expressionless, completely ignoring him as he made a grasping motion with his hand.

Following his gesture, the Red Dragon Lock Chain shot forward to ensnare its target.

"You brat!"

Wu Ming almost laughed in fury. He never would have imagined that his ambusher was this mere boy. Sneering, he formed a Seal Technique with his hands, and the scroll that had been knocked away coiled like a Flood Dragon Snake, winding itself around the Red Dragon Lock Chain.

At the same time, his White Tiger mount lunged, streaking toward Chen Che in a shroud of black light.

Of course he knew about the Red Dragon Lock Chain’s creation. He was one of the main reasons for it, thanks to Jia Chaoyuan. When Jia Chaoyuan had refused True Master Duobao’s recruitment, it was Wu Ming himself who had personally severed the man’s arm.

When he heard about the chain later, he had laughed mockingly. ’To think that cripple could still accomplish something like this,’ he’d thought. ’If I’d known, I should have torn out his tongue as well.’

That was why he had recognized it instantly.

"So you’re the one backing the Meng Family and the Great Chen Royal Family? Today, I’ll show you how I take you alive!"

With a roar, the White Tiger beneath him shuddered. A vast wave of Demon Qi, surging like a torrential river, erupted from its body, coalescing into the form of a gigantic, Fierce Tiger dozens of feet tall.

The instant the Fierce Tiger materialized, its massive paw slammed down.

"SCREEE!"

Almost simultaneously, Xuan Peng beat its wings and soared upward to meet the attack.

"BANG!"

With a deafening crash, the phantom Fierce Tiger exploded. The real White Tiger whimpered and staggered back, each paw gouging deep tracks into the earth.

’How is his Spirit Pet so powerful?’

Wu Ming’s eyes filled with disbelief.

His White Tiger was descended from a Golden Core Great Demon! It had never lost a fight against a Demon Beast of the Same Tier. Who could have predicted it would be on the losing end after just a single clash?

As he reeled in shock, the light in Chen Che’s eyes suddenly flared.

Wu Ming’s sea of consciousness jolted violently. He felt a colossal wave of Divine Sense, powerful as a volcanic eruption, surging toward him. He could feel the impact on his Divine Soul before it even arrived.

"This is bad!"

A chill ran down Wu Ming’s spine, and his expression changed drastically.

’What kind of Divine Sense is this? Not even my clan’s ancestor is this powerful.’

Without a moment’s hesitation, he activated a Jade Talisman. It flared with brilliant light, manifesting a wall in his Spiritual World that seemed to separate heaven from earth, a desperate attempt to block the incoming tide of Divine Sense.

But the wall lasted for barely a breath before it completely shattered.

However, that split second was all Wu Ming needed. He bit the tip of his tongue, and a burst of light erupted from his body, his speed increasing severalfold. He didn’t even spare a glance for his White Tiger, which was still locked in combat with Xuan Peng.

’Trying to escape?’

Chen Che gave a cold smile and activated his Wind Thunder Step, appearing above Wu Ming’s head in a blur of light and shadow.

’Damn it!’

Wu Ming’s heart sank. He had just raised his hands to perform a Sealing Technique when a flash of sword light, small as a firefly, appeared. The sword strike met no resistance, tearing through his Protective True Essence and severing both of his hands. In the same instant, the sword light twisted and pierced straight through his Magic Robe.

"AHH!"

Wu Ming let out a wretched scream and fainted on the spot, plummeting from the sky.

With a beckoning gesture, the Storage Ring flew into Chen Che’s hand.

He brutally shattered the seal on the ring, and its contents were laid bare before him. Among the various treasures Wu Ming had collected, the other half of the Jade Pendant lay quietly in a corner.

"The prize is mine!"

Chen Che’s eyes lit up.
