Chapter 106: Chapter 104: Indulgent Meal
「The next day, in the afternoon.」
DING DONG, DING DONG...
The crisp doorbell chime rang out, and Gu Heng walked from the living room to the foyer.
He opened the door and found Jiang Ruan standing outside.
"The lingerie you wanted."
Jiang Ruan handed the shopping bag to Gu Heng. Her voice was cold, her expression even colder.
"Thanks."
Gu Heng took the bag from her.
Jiang Ruan shot him a light glare and turned to leave.
"What’s the rush?"
"I have something to tell you."
Gu Heng held the door open. "Come in and talk."
Without waiting for a reply, he turned and headed back into the suite.
Jiang Ruan hesitated for a moment before following him inside.
Past the foyer, the living room came into view.
The 270-degree, floor-to-ceiling windows offered a remarkably clear and open view.
The 300-square-meter presidential suite, which cost nearly forty thousand yuan a night, was the very definition of opulence.
Hmm?
’Why are there so many handprints on the floor-to-ceiling windows?’
Jiang Ruan froze at the sight. Her fair face immediately flushed a deep red, and it was hard to tell if she was blushing from embarrassment or fuming with anger.
"What’s wrong?"
Gu Heng turned around, looking at Jiang Ruan’s bright red face in confusion.
"Shameless scumbag!"
Jiang Ruan muttered the curse under her breath.
"Psycho."
Gu Heng rolled his eyes and sat back down on the sofa.
"I have a business trip to Zhonghai in a couple of days."
"Start getting ready. You’re coming with me."
Gu Heng picked up his chopsticks again. In front of him sat a bowl of steaming-hot, braised beef noodles.
"A business trip?"
"To Zhonghai?"
Jiang Ruan was caught completely off guard.
"What?"
"Surprised?"
Gu Heng glanced at Jiang Ruan as he lifted a few strands of noodles from his bowl. "The length of the trip is uncertain. It could be five days, or it could be ten. Just pack for ten."
Two days had passed since Gu Heng completed the second-level challenge of the Golden Tower of Wealth. According to the progress display for his asset rewards, the equity stake in Deloitte Accounting Firm was currently number one.
At this rate, the transfer was expected to reach 100% in another three or four days.
The asset reward in second place, however, was a surprise to Gu Heng.
Gu Heng had assumed the stock transfer for Xingchuan International Group would be the fastest of the three assets awarded by Father Tongzi. To his surprise, the fastest acquisition turned out to be the most valuable one: Ruyi Airlines.
After that came the luxury reward, a Bombardier Global 7500, followed by Xingchuan International Group, and finally, the Beichun Junlan Hotel.
Based on the current progress, Gu Heng figured he could settle all matters concerning Deloitte Accounting Firm and Ruyi Airlines on this one trip to Zhonghai.
If things went especially well, he might even be able to fly back to Beichun on his own private jet.
Come to think of it, Gu Heng had never left Ji Province in his entire life.
He had long yearned to visit that metropolis, home to the Oriental Pearl and known as Shanghai.
On this trip to Zhonghai, he planned to do some sightseeing in addition to handling his business.
"What do I need to prepare?"
Although Jiang Ruan was rebellious at heart, physically subservient to Gu Heng but never mentally, she was still very good at her job as an assistant. At the very least, she would follow any of his reasonable instructions.
"Just pack the bags for both of us."
Gu Heng instructed while slurping his noodles, "Someone else will handle the other arrangements."
"Fine."
After Jiang Ruan replied, the living room fell silent.
"I’ll give you a week off when we get back from Zhonghai."
"You can go home, or travel to visit friends. It’s up to you."
"I’ll cover the cost."
Gu Heng continued, his head still lowered over his noodles.
"I have my own money."
Jiang Ruan was a little surprised, her expression softening somewhat.
"Suit yourself."
Gu Heng had no interest in being friendly to a cold shoulder. He looked up at Jiang Ruan. "There’s nothing else. You can go."
"Alright."
Jiang Ruan stood before Gu Heng. From her vantage point, she could clearly see the hickeys scattered below his collarbone.
’I genuinely like her, but I never said she’s the only one I genuinely like.’
Recalling that night, Gu Heng’s shameless words seemed to echo in her ears.
Now, when Jiang Ruan thought back to her standards for a partner from her school days, they seemed laughably childish.
’I wanted this, and that, and everything in between... all just because I was beautiful?’
It wasn’t until she met Gu Heng that she truly realized the beauty she had always taken pride in was, in the eyes of someone of his class, nothing more than dough on a cutting board, to be kneaded however he pleased.
But at least Gu Heng was honest enough not to weave a web of lies to deceive her.
She found this far easier to accept than some elaborate emotional scam.
Jiang Ruan gave Gu Heng one last, deep look, then turned and walked out of the presidential suite.
THUD...
Even as the door closed, Gu Heng didn’t look up.
After finishing the entire bowl of braised beef noodles, a pleasant warmth spread through his stomach.
Gu Heng wiped his mouth with a napkin, then rose and walked toward the bedroom.
He pushed the door open gently. He had assumed Luo Xiwen was still asleep, but she was leaning against the headboard, playing on her phone.
"When did you wake up?"
Gu Heng asked in surprise.
"About twenty minutes ago?"
Luo Xiwen put down her phone, replying with a grin.
"Then why didn’t you come out?"
Gu Heng sat down on the edge of the bed, his right hand naturally finding its way to her chest.
"Jiang Ruan was here. Why would I come out?"
Luo Xiwen’s face turned a shade redder. With a look of playful reproach, she whispered, "You kissed the left one so much it’s a little swollen. Do you like it that much?"
"Huh?"
"Is that so?"
Gu Heng feigned shock. "Let me see!"
"You’re awful~"
Luo Xiwen’s face grew even redder as she pouted at him.
"Hehe..."
Gu Heng chuckled and pulled Luo Xiwen into his arms. "In that case, I suppose I won’t favor Lefty tonight. I’ll have to dote on Righty exclusively."
...
For five whole days, Gu Heng and Luo Xiwen barely left the Beichun Junlan Hotel.
However, a phone call from Wang Shunfu, the CEO of Deloitte Accounting Firm for the Greater China Region, signaled a temporary end to Gu Heng’s "Indulgent Meal."
On their last day, Gu Heng first helped Luo Xiwen temporarily rent a spacious, nearly 200-square-meter apartment in the city center, close to a CMB branch.
Afterward, he went to Jilin University Ninth Hospital to take Xu Mo out for dinner.
As they parted, he of course didn’t let Xu Mo go home until he’d kissed her breathless, leaving her lips slick and wet.
Finally, after Gu Heng returned home, he double-checked the luggage Jiang Ruan had packed for him to make sure nothing was missing. Once he confirmed everything was in order, he went to bed early...
