Chapter 197 - 173: Going Home

Chapter 197: Chapter 173: Going Home

Twenty minutes later.

The Bombardier Global 7500 landed smoothly at Beichun Longjia International Airport. After taxiing for a while, it came to a steady stop on the tarmac.

The airstairs slowly descended, and Gu Heng emerged from the cabin.

A blast of cold air hit him, making Gu Heng instinctively pull his Loro Piana cashmere coat tighter around himself.

As far as the eye could see, the lawns around the airport were covered in a blanket of white snow.

Gu Heng and Jiang Ruan descended the airstairs one after another. Not far away, a business shuttle bus sent from the airport’s VIP terminal was waiting to pick them up. Two hostesses stood by the vehicle’s door, their eyes filled with amazement and longing as they watched Gu Heng slowly step down from the private jet.

After Gu Heng and Jiang Ruan had disembarked, Captain Han Gang and the other two crew members also came out of the cockpit.

"Good work, everyone."

"Someone will contact you all shortly."

"Enjoy your time in Beichun."

Gu Heng extended his right hand and said with a gentle smile.

"Thank you, Chairman Gu!"

Han Gang quickly reached out with both hands to shake Gu Heng’s offered hand, looking somewhat overwhelmed by the gesture.

"Hope to see you again."

Gu Heng also shook hands with the other two. Without another word, he led Jiang Ruan toward the business shuttle. Han Gang and the others remained where they were, waiting for the airport ground crew to arrive and help them move the plane into a hangar.

After leaving the airport through the VIP terminal, they found Gu Heng’s driver, Zhou Sheng, already waiting for them at the main entrance in Gu Heng’s Maybach GLS 600.

"Chairman Gu, welcome home."

The moment Zhou Sheng saw Gu Heng walk out, he hurried forward to greet him.

"Take us straight home."

Gu Heng handed his luggage to Zhou Sheng and instructed him with a smile.

"You got it."

"Chairman Gu, Miss Jiang, please get in the car first."

Zhou Sheng was very diligent. "It’s cold out here. Just leave the luggage to me."

Hearing this, Gu Heng didn’t stand on ceremony with Zhou Sheng and got into the car with Jiang Ruan.

Once Zhou Sheng finished loading the luggage, he drove the Maybach GLS 600 away from the airport, heading toward Gu Heng’s mountaintop villa in Yu Cui Garden.

On the highway, Gu Heng used WhatsApp to message Luo Xiwen and Xu Mo, telling them he was back.

Then, he sent a message to Wang Yan and Wang Wan Ning in Zhonghai to let them know he’d arrived safely.

After sending the messages, Gu Heng looked back out the window and noticed that it had started snowing at some point. And from the looks of it, it was coming down quite heavily.

"It’s snowing."

This was the first time Gu Heng had seen it snow since winter began.

A sudden whim struck him.

"How about we have hot pot at home tonight?"

Gu Heng turned to Jiang Ruan and asked with great interest, "A traditional copper pot with lamb, and we can have some seafood sent over from Zhenhai. It’d be perfect for a snowy day."

"Of course."

Jiang Ruan nodded. "If that’s what you want, I’ll call Sister Li and have them start preparing now."

"Okay, go ahead and call Sister Li."

"I’ll invite a couple more people over. Hot pot is more fun with a bigger group."

Gu Heng gestured for Jiang Ruan to handle the arrangements while he picked up his phone again and dialed Qian Zhengxing.

A while back, Gu Heng’s huge donations during a TikTok live stream had unexpectedly triggered an anti-money laundering review back in Hang City. Qian Zhengxing had used his personal connections to get Liu Sheng, the president of the CMB Zhonghai Branch, to help out. Now that Gu Heng was back in Beichun, it was only right to treat Qian Zhengxing to a meal in return.

Besides, Qian Zhengxing had been the president of the CMB branch in Ji Province for nearly three years. He was more or less familiar with all the famous entrepreneurs and big bosses in the province.

This was the perfect opportunity to probe Qian Zhengxing for more specific details about Xingchuan International.

The call connected within seconds.

"Chairman Gu, what are your orders for me!"

Qian Zhengxing’s laughter was hearty, and his tone was familiar and warm.

"Qian Hang, are you free tonight?"

Gu Heng asked with a chuckle, "Care to come over for some hot pot?"

"Chairman Gu, you’re back from Zhonghai?"

Qian Zhengxing sounded a little surprised, then quickly added, "I’m free, I’m free! If Chairman Gu is arranging a meal, then I’m definitely free!"

"Just left the airport. We’re on the highway now."

Gu Heng replied with a smile.

"So, Chairman Gu, what time tonight?"

"Let’s say seven. I still need to freshen up when I get home."

"No problem. I’ll see you at seven, then."

"I’ll call President Wang and Dean Jiang in a bit to see if they’re free."

"Whatever works. It’s all up to you, Chairman Gu."

After they had tentatively set the time, they didn’t chat any longer and quickly hung up.

Afterwards, Gu Heng called Wang Baoshan and Jiang Man. Both were delighted to hear he was back and readily accepted his invitation.

...

After a series of phone calls, Gu Heng soon arrived home.

The Maybach GLS 600 drove straight into the garage. Gu Heng and Jiang Ruan entered the villa directly through the connecting door. Looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows, they saw that all the vegetation in the courtyard was covered in a thick layer of white snow.

Only a few plum blossom trees still stood proudly in the wind and snow.

"No matter how great it is out there, nothing beats being home!"

Gu Heng put his hands on his hips and couldn’t help but sigh with emotion.

"President Gu, a lot of your packages have arrived recently. We’ve piled them up in the storage room."

The housemaid, Li Huifang, came forward to inform him.

"Alright."

"I know."

"You can get back to your work."

Li Huifang’s reminder made Gu Heng remember all the packages he hadn’t opened yet.

A while ago, Gu Heng had gone on a shopping spree at the Zhonghai International Finance Center Mall, buying up cigars, fine wines, premium teas, utensils, and many other things as if he were stocking a warehouse. Everything had been shipped directly to his home by courier or special delivery.

Now, it was time for the unboxing.

"Jiang Ruan, come help me unbox these."

Gu Heng called out to Jiang Ruan, who was just coming out of the bathroom. It was such a massive undertaking that if he were to do it alone, he probably wouldn’t be finished by seven o’clock.

"Coming."

Jiang Ruan answered and followed Gu Heng to the storage room.

When they pushed open the storage room door and saw the mountain of cardboard boxes, they still felt their scalps tingle, even though they had been mentally prepared.

"Tsk, tsk..."

"It’s all fun and games when you’re shopping, but the unboxing will give you hand cramps!"

Gu Heng couldn’t help but remark.

"Just how much did you buy?"

As a woman, Jiang Ruan would normally be very interested in unboxing things, but right now, she still felt an overwhelming sense of powerlessness.

"You were there that day, weren’t you?"

Gu Heng shook his head. "Go see who’s free outside and call two more people in."

"Good idea."

Jiang Ruan turned and left without a moment’s hesitation.

A moment later, Gu Heng, Jiang Ruan, and two other housemaids sat together and began frantically unboxing. Then, they sorted everything and moved it all to the third-floor lounge, placing each item in its designated cabinet.

The four of them were busy for a full five hours before they finally finished.

Finally, Gu Heng stood in the lounge, looking at the row of completely filled cigar humidors, wine cabinets, tea cabinets, and wooden shelves, feeling a true sense of satisfaction from the bottom of his heart.

"Awesome!"

Gu Heng struck one of Shen Teng’s classic poses.

At the same time, the doorbell rang downstairs. The first guest for the hot pot dinner had arrived...
