Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Dignity and Equality
"You’re so beautiful, miss."
"And your skin and figure are amazing, too."
Surrounded by four sales associates from the Dior boutique, Jiang Ruan began to try on the clothes.
One person helped Jiang Ruan into the dress, another helped her with the shoes.
The meticulous service and their unusually high level of enthusiasm were things Jiang Ruan had never experienced before.
It wasn’t that she had never visited the luxury brand stores in Zhuo Zhan with Huang Yufan before, but the service she received back then was worlds apart from what she was experiencing now.
While the staff hadn’t looked down on them, they had certainly treated customers differently based on their perceived wealth.
To take the most direct example, if she and Huang Yufan had gone to the Dior boutique to try on shoes, there was no way a sales associate would have knelt on the floor to help her, head bowed, like they were doing now.
Can money buy dignity?
Watching the two sales associates kneeling at her feet, Jiang Ruan was inexplicably reminded of a topic that had recently been trending online.
If this had been before yesterday, she would have answered without hesitation: ’No!’
In her view, dignity had nothing to do with money.
Whether rich or poor, high or low, everyone’s dignity was inviolable.
Now, however, looking back, she only felt that she had been so foolish and naive.
At this very moment, she finally understood—
Money could not only buy your own dignity, it could also buy the dignity of others!
In a daze, Jiang Ruan, attended by the four women, had already changed her clothes.
She walked out of the room and returned to the living room.
Gu Heng was still sitting in the center of the sofa. The physical therapist continued his treatment beside him, while membership manager Luo Si and Dior’s boutique manager Hu Yue stood behind.
On the coffee table, which was cast from a single block of resin, sat an assortment of cut fruit and a pot of steaming, fragrant tea.
Right now, nearly twenty people in the entire villa were all there to serve one man: Gu Heng.
Jiang Ruan walked to the center of the living room, her gaze on Gu Heng complicated.
The scene before her dealt a severe blow to her naive, rose-tinted worldview.
’All men are created equal?’
Suddenly, the phrase felt like a complete joke to her.
"Mr. Gu, this dress is from Dior’s Fall/Winter 2023 haute couture collection. It’s crafted from tulle, featuring a flared cut, embellished with crystal embroidery, and paired with a grosgrain waistband and straps. The bow is inspired by the Miss Dior perfume bottle..."
Just as Jiang Ruan walked out in the dress, Hu Yue, the Dior boutique manager standing behind Gu Heng, leaned down at the perfect moment and began her explanation in a soft voice.
It had to be said, Jiang Ruan was a natural-born clothes hanger.
Long legs, slender arms.
Her limbs were long and slim, but not skinny.
Her slender back and swan-like neck gave her a graceful posture, accentuated by naturally defined shoulders and delicate collarbones.
Her posture was upright, her aura cool and detached.
Already stunningly beautiful, she now wore the Dior haute couture dress and a pair of Crystal Shoes, instantly exuding an indescribable aura of nobility.
"And the handbag Ms. Jiang is holding is also a new model from Dior this year. It’s meticulously crafted from materials like cream-white calfskin. The embroidered pattern is inspired by the unicorn, a symbol from the mythology of Scotland..."
Gu Heng listened to Hu Yue’s explanation, nodding lightly from time to time.
"Turn around. Let me see."
Gu Heng lifted his chin, gesturing to Jiang Ruan.
Hearing this, Jiang Ruan silently spun around in place.
"Not bad."
"Bag this set up."
Gu Heng gave a slight nod. After giving the order to Hu Yue, he turned to Jiang Ruan and said, "Change into the next one."
"Yes, of course!"
"Quick, take Ms. Jiang to change into the next outfit!"
Seeing how decisive Gu Heng was with his money, Hu Yue’s attitude became even more enthusiastic. Meanwhile, Jiang Ruan, surrounded by the staff once again, turned and walked back to the room where she had just changed.
On the way back to the room, Jiang Ruan thought about how the dress she was wearing would soon be given as a gift from Gu Heng to another woman. An inexplicable sourness welled up inside her, along with a sense of grievance she couldn’t quite put into words.
Last night was her first time, yet today she was being forced to act as a fitting model for Gu Heng’s other woman.
The more Jiang Ruan thought about it, the more wronged she felt, and her eyes even began to redden.
"Ms. Jiang, is something wrong?"
One of the sales associates noticed something was off with Jiang Ruan’s mood and quickly asked with concern. A hint of panic flashed in her eyes, afraid they had done something wrong in their service to displease her.
"I’m fine."
Jiang Ruan took a deep breath and gently shook her head.
’I can’t cry!’
’It’s just some clothes and bags, right?’
’Sooner or later, I’ll be able to afford them myself!’
Jiang Ruan tried to comfort herself with these thoughts.
"Excuse me, how much is this dress?"
Jiang Ruan gazed at the dress as the associate folded it. She truly loved it. After all, what girl doesn’t dream of being a princess?
"Ms. Jiang, this dress costs 165,000 yuan."
The sales associate answered truthfully.
Hearing this, Jiang Ruan’s eyes glazed over slightly.
A single dress...
...costing 165,000?
When Jiang Ruan heard the price, it was as if she heard a "CRACK" in her mind.
It was the sound of her already fractured worldview cracking once more.
’Could I really ever afford this?’
Never mind that she had a million yuan right now.
She felt that even if she had ten million yuan one day, she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to spend 165,000 on a single dress.
For a moment, a look of bewilderment clouded Jiang Ruan’s face.
...
「For the next two hours.」
The four major brands took their turns, with Jiang Ruan changing into a new outfit every five minutes on average.
Gu Heng watched Jiang Ruan come and go, her look different each time.
Sometimes she looked like an ethereal flower fairy; other times, a gentle and quiet girl-next-door; and sometimes, a mature and sophisticated city woman...
’No wonder dress-up games like *Infinite Warmth* are so popular. There’s a reason for it, after all. Reskinning is seriously addictive!’
The fitting session for the day finally concluded after the last outfit from CUCCL was tried on.
"Just charge the card."
"I’ll send you the delivery address for all these shoes, clothes, and bags on WhatsApp later."
Gu Heng had watched the two-hour fashion show, getting his fill of the eye candy. It was time to go upstairs and continue his daily training.
"Of course."
"I’ll make sure they’re delivered perfectly."
Membership manager Luo Si respectfully took the card from Gu Heng with both hands. She treated him better than she did her own father.
With Gu Heng’s level of spending, he was the God of Wealth in her eyes.
Any hint of disrespect would be a disrespect to money itself.
Gu Heng gave Luo Si a few instructions, then turned to Jiang Ruan. "Later, take my Maybach and go back to your place with Sister Li. Pack up your things and bring them here."
"Just bring what’s useful. Throw away anything that isn’t."
Jiang Ruan nodded silently but didn’t say a word.
Gu Heng could tell something was off with Jiang Ruan’s mood, but he didn’t say anything. After giving his instructions, he turned and headed for the third-floor gym...
