After determining that Barbossa was in his office with several allies, Sam, Garlan, and Hurk snuck up through a sewer opening in the basement of the manor, locating a storage room that shared a wall with Barbossa’s office.

Garlan pulled out a piece of chalk and drew a circle of runes on the wall, and then they snuck around doing the same in other places until all four walls outside Barbossa’s office had rune circles. Then they went to the empty meeting room under his office to draw a circle on the ceiling, and to the empty guest room above his office to draw one on the floor.

The moment the seal was active, Garlan nodded and looked to Hurk. "Okay, go ahead."

The inside of the office erupted with screams as the automatons began slaughtering Barbossa’s allies. Then Sam, Garlan, and Hurk stormed into the office.

"What is the meaning of this?!" Barbossa demanded. He was a tall orc with grayish-green skin, yellow eyes, and long black hair. He was clad in a fancy red and gold coat.

"We’ve come to end your reign of torment against the rest of Nexus Island!" Garlan proclaimed.

Barbossa’s eyes narrowed. "That will not be happening!" He pointed behind them, and they turned to see Lucifer and Sylar standing in the doorway. An instant later, the two rushed in at superspeed and destroyed all the automatons, then held their weapons towards Sam, Garlan, and Hurk.

"It’s impressive that you broke out of your cell," Lucifer said with a smirk. "I came to retrieve you for the beginning of your torment, but you were gone."

He conjured a huge, floating magic mirror that showed Calista, Lazula, Gabrielle, and Brion all chained to a wall in a dungeon somewhere, completely naked.

"Where are they?!" Sam growled, summoning his green katana.

"The same dungeons you escaped from," Lucifer revealed with a sinister grin. "We have some of the best torturers in the Unseelie Blue down there, just waiting to begin flaying them alive - if you do not surrender and return there with me."

"How do I know you won’t just torture them anyway?" Sam demanded.

"You don’t," the elf said. "I guess you’ll just have to trust me."

"I’m sorry, but I am not going back to that dungeon!" Garlan proclaimed. "Hurk, attack!"

The gnome and the automaton rushed towards Barbossa, but before he even got close, Lucifer exploded Garlan’s head with a wave of his hand. In the same instance, Sylar used his icy tentacles to rip Hurk apart into pieces.

"You didn’t need to kill them!" Sam growled.

Lucifer just shrugged. "We were going to do it anyway. Now, put those on," the elf said as he slid a pair of magic-dampening manacles across the floor to him.

I can just use my Spirit Energy to break out of them again, he thought to himself. But my Mana will be drained again... Oh well, I’ll figure that out when I’m back in the dungeon and break free.

He reluctantly slapped the manacles on, feeling his Mana drain away again. He was then ushered out of the Chancellor’s Manor, into a wagon, and then taken back to the dungeons below the city jail.

As they walked him through the corridor of cells, they led him into a torture chamber where the girls and Brion were chained to the wall.

"Sam!" Calista shrieked, tears running down her cheeks.

"We couldn’t bring ourselves to leave you, and then this asshole kidnapped us from our ship," Lazula said as she glared at Lucifer.

"We’re glad you’re okay," Gabrielle said.

"He won’t be for long," Brion said, sighing heavily.

"That’s true," Lucifer agreed with a smile. "I’m going to slowly pick him apart, piece by piece, using magic potions to keep his mind alive so he can feel as much of it as possible."

"I did what you wanted," Sam said, looking at the elf. "I came quietly. Now let them go."

Lucifer grinned. "I may have told a teeny tiny lie." He then looked to a man that had already been in the chamber. "Let’s start with a little shock therapy."

The man nodded and then unleashed torrents of purple lightning from his fingertips, electrocuting the girls and Brion.

"Stop!" Sam cried out as he watched them thrash in agony, unable to scream because of the voltage. "Stop hurting them!"

He was about to use his Spirit Energy to break free, but then Lucifer did his heart grab thing again, and Sam discovered he could not concentrate enough to call upon the power.

"Watch them suffer!" the elf said with a sinister grin, grabbing Sam by the hair and forcing him to look towards them. "This is only the beginning! Hahahaaa!"

No! I have to save them! Sam screamed out in his mind. And then somehow, he was able to finally call upon his Spirit Energy, the white aura of flames exploding from his body again.

"What the fuck?!" yelped Lucifer as he jumped back.

Sam ripped his manacles off, and then made a very risky move by channeling his Spirit Energy into his Power Core to force it to regenerate Mana faster. Garlan had warned him not to mix the two in a combat situation, but he had no choice.

"Impossible!" Lucifer shrieked as Sam’s Aura grew into a mix of green flames and white flames.

Sam summoned his katana, which now had white streaks across the green blade. He charged the torturer and beheaded him quickly to stop the shocking. The girls and Brion immediately gasped, but their bodies were still twitching. Sam rushed over and used his sword to slice through their chains and then ripped off the manacles, setting them all free. He then turned to face Lucifer, Sylar, and Barbossa.

"All three of you will die tonight!" he growled at them, his canine teeth growing into fangs, his face becoming more beastlike, his pupils becoming slits, and his irises glowing bright green with threads of white.

Barbossa tried to teleport away, but Sam anticipated that and rushed to him first, spilling his guts onto the floor with a slice of his sword. He then charged Lucifer and Sylar, his skin starting to turn green, a hint that he was finally regaining the dragon form he’d turned into the night he Awakened as a Dragon Warlock...
