Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Forming His Own Team
Wang Chenning’s earth-shattering words shocked everyone in the audience.
Even those who had been furious at his arrogant words and deliberate belittling of their predecessors fell silent.
Wang Chenning did have a point.
It was hard to imagine that the industry still treated works from one or two thousand years ago, like the *Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor*, the *Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Warm Pathogenic Diseases*, and the *Thousand Gold Formula*, as its foundational classics.
For over a century, and especially in the last few decades, technology had advanced at a breakneck pace. With Science having developed to this extent, was our understanding of diseases still inferior to that of the ancients?
The ancients understood so much one or two thousand years ago. Was our current understanding of meridians and theories of disease truly no better than theirs?
If a discipline only studied the achievements of the ancients, with no one to innovate and push things forward, how could it possibly progress? How could it ever develop?
At this moment, Wang Chenning spoke again. "I’ve said a lot, but it can be summarized in a few simple sentences. Our research and development will only be a true success on the day we compile a groundbreaking magnum opus of traditional medicine—a work so monumental its publication renders all the ancient medical texts we consider classics obsolete. It will be a success when great medical masters emerge from our ranks, masters like Hua Tuo, Zhang Zhongjing, Sun Simiao, Zhu Danxi, and Li Mingzhen, whose names will be remembered for ages. It will be a success when these masters use their research to win over the entire world."
Having said this, Wang Chenning bowed respectfully to the entire audience. "Though I am but a junior and unworthy, I still hope to work hard alongside all the seniors present here to jointly advance the development of traditional medicine!"
Immediately, someone began to clap, breaking the hall’s silence.
Soon, more people joined in. In just a moment, the applause thundered like a storm. Many couldn’t help but rise to their feet, cheering for Wang Chenning’s heartfelt speech.
Even those who didn’t fully agree with his views still admired Wang Chenning’s courage to speak his mind so eloquently. He was a man of genuine character.
Every sentence he had just spoken was grounded and sincere.
Of course, if Wang Chenning hadn’t demonstrated his exquisite skills that morning, everyone would have simply scoffed at whatever he said.
Wang Chenning’s medical skills were outstanding, yet he still felt that the development of traditional medicine was lagging. He believed it needed to take great strides forward, requiring more people to get involved and more manpower and resources to be invested in research.
Moreover, he was willing to be the one to lead the charge.
Based on the fact that so many old masters wanted to become his disciples at noon, Wang Chenning was more than qualified to be that guide.
"I’ve rambled on with a lot of crazy talk today. I hope you’ll all be gentle with your criticism. If you have different views, please feel free to share them with me. Thank you for your kindness, and thank you all for your tolerance!" After another deep bow, Wang Chenning returned the microphone to the host and strode quickly off the stage.
The entire hall erupted in thunderous applause once more, which lasted for over a minute before subsiding.
"I’m really impressed!" Yang Xiaofei’s beautiful eyes sparkled as she looked at Wang Chenning, who had just sat down beside her. "To think you’d just call out the entire field at an event like this!"
"If I were their age, I definitely wouldn’t have been so blunt!" Wang Chenning replied with a chuckle. "Youth and impulsiveness are often synonymous. When people see someone as young and handsome as me, they automatically forgive my arrogance!"
"Tch!" Yang Xiaofei couldn’t help but roll her eyes. "How many men go around talking about how handsome they are all day?"
"All day? I just said it once, didn’t I?" Wang Chenning pointed to his own face. "You don’t think I’m handsome? If I really weren’t, you wouldn’t be sitting next to me!"
Yang Xiaofei huffed. "Am I the kind of person who judges a book by its cover?"
"Almost everyone judges a book by its cover!" Wang Chenning chuckled slyly. "Anyway, I just like looking at beautiful women and hanging out with them!"
"Player!" Yang Xiaofei couldn’t resist reaching out and pinching him. "Then hurry up and go mingle with your beautiful women! Don’t sit next to me!"
"Hey, no touching!" Wang Chenning grabbed Yang Xiaofei’s hand and, in one smooth motion, squeezed her thigh. Just as Yang Xiaofei shivered, her embarrassment turning into anger, he sat up perfectly straight again. "Pay attention to the lecture. Everyone’s looking at us!"
Yang Xiaofei seethed inwardly but could only let it go!
After Wang Chenning left the stage, Lu Yuanshan walked up and shared some of his own thoughts. "I believe Teacher Wang Chenning has made an excellent point. The development of any discipline is only realized through the countless people who constantly research, explore, and correct errors along the way.
"Our traditional medicine has been complacent for too long. Many people even think, ’Isn’t traditional medicine just what it is? One set of theories that can be used forever, and no amount of research will ever produce anything new.’ This viewpoint is definitely wrong. There’s no field that cannot be developed. The human body is marvelous; even now, with our advanced instruments, we can’t fully comprehend it. How could the ancients, from hundreds or thousands of years ago, have done so?
"The progress of our era proves that many of the ancients’ views were mistaken. We must constantly correct and innovate so that our field can develop better and faster. I also hope that the governing authorities will listen to these voices and give us more support for innovation and reform."
A senior official from the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine who was attending the conference immediately took the floor. "The words Teacher Wang Chenning just spoke were truly thought-provoking. Traditional medicine does indeed need innovation and development. It needs more people to dedicate themselves to it, to research diligently, and to continuously correct the mistakes of our predecessors in order to advance.
"How about this: On behalf of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I will state our position. We support Teacher Wang Chenning in forming his own team. We hope this team can produce more results and benefit the common people. As for how the team will be formed, managed, and run, we can discuss that after the conference. If everyone supports this proposal, let’s approve it with a round of applause. If there are any objections, you can voice them through the proper channels. We will respect everyone’s opinion!"
The moment he finished speaking, the entire hall erupted in thunderous applause!
Many couldn’t help but feel emotional. An obscure young man, simply because of his audacious speech at the traditional medicine conference, had suddenly been pushed to the forefront of the times.
Perhaps, from this day forward, he would become the face of traditional medicine. The level of his team would determine the future heights of Huaxia’s traditional medicine.
What kind of team would Wang Chenning form? Who would join it? And would they themselves have a chance to be a part of it? These questions became a matter of great curiosity and concern for many...
