Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Aren’t You Afraid Something Might Happen?

After they left Luo Yuqing’s place with her arm linked through Wang Chenning’s, Zhao Xiao’an let go.

She explained, a little embarrassed, "I just did that to spite Luo Yuqing. Don’t take it seriously!"

"I know," Wang Chenning replied with a smile. "As if I’d be that lucky."

The young woman was certainly well-developed; he could feel her softness pressing against him as they walked.

Zhao Xiao’an said, her face flushing slightly, "I was shocked when I found out what happened tonight. How did you get into another fight? Still, it’s a good thing Luo Yuqing stepped in. No one should come looking for trouble now. If I’m not mistaken, she was looking for you tonight because she wants to partner up, to make money with your beauty formula. Did she mention that to you?"

Wang Chenning nodded. "She did, but I haven’t agreed to it yet."

"Good. Don’t agree to it!" Zhao Xiao’an pointed in the direction she had parked. "My car’s over there. We can talk in the car, or find a place to sit down. Or better yet, you could treat me to a late-night snack. You still owe me a few!"

A smile finally broke across Zhao Xiao’an’s face as she said this.

"Alright, I’ll treat you to a late-night snack," Wang Chenning agreed.

They drove a little ways and found a congee shop.

"Actually, I wanted to partner with you too," Zhao Xiao’an said a little shyly after they sat down. "We’re planning a health and wellness show aimed at middle-aged and older folks, people in their fifties and sixties. The topic is about the best ways to stay healthy during the winter and spring. I was wondering... if I host it, would you be willing to come on as a guest?"

Zhao Xiao’an followed up with a sweet, shy smile. "I’ll be sure to thank you properly!"

"Of course!" Wang Chenning agreed without hesitation. "It sounds like a really beneficial show, and on top of that, you’re hosting it. As your friend, I’ll definitely help out. I just don’t know the first thing about being on a show, so you’ll have to walk me through it!"

Wang Chenning had just rejected Luo Yuqing’s proposal, yet he’d agreed to hers without a second thought. Zhao Xiao’an was overjoyed.

"Then it’s a deal. No backing out." She held out her pinky to Wang Chenning. "I’ll talk to my director tomorrow and submit the proposal."

Wang Chenning extended his own pinky, hooked it gently with hers, and then quickly tapped her on the nose. "You’d better start thinking about how you’re going to thank me!"

"Hey, you’re impossible!" Flustered and shy from the tap on her nose, Zhao Xiao’an shot Wang Chenning a look before continuing, "The forecast says it’s going to snow heavily in a couple of days. On the day of the first snow, how about I treat you to drinks and we can go looking for plum blossoms in the snow?"

Wang Chenning’s eyes widened. "Now that’s a temptation I don’t think I can refuse!"

A sly look appeared on Zhao Xiao’an’s face. "Yanjing has a lot of fun places. When you have free time, I’ll be your personal tour guide and take you around. Consider it part of my thanks!"

"Stop tempting me!" Wang Chenning groaned. "My biggest weakness is being tempted!"

Zhao Xiao’an burst out laughing.

After chatting with Wang Chenning for a little while, her mood had improved greatly. The frustration from Luo Yuqing’s antics had all but disappeared.

Zhao Xiao’an told Wang Chenning that the reaction to his last interview had been incredible after it aired. A lot of people had called the station to ask about him.

"A lot of them were big names in the medical field. Some were skeptical, others were amazed, and quite a few wanted your contact info, but we didn’t give it to anyone!" Zhao Xiao’an said playfully. "How about you do another show with us? You could go into detail about your superb medical techniques, especially your Acupuncture Skill. We could even splice in clips from the first interview. You’d be famous in no time."

Wang Chenning watched her with a gentle smile. "But I’m not interested in being famous."

Zhao Xiao’an gave Wang Chenning a mischievous look. "What about helping *me* get famous?"

Wang Chenning returned her sly look. "That depends on what’s in it for me!"

Zhao Xiao’an shot him a look. "Didn’t you just tell me to stop tempting you, or you wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight?"

"Deal!" Wang Chenning held out his hand to her.

Zhao Xiao’an high-fived him lightly and laughed triumphantly. "Once I have the official schedule planned out and the show’s content written, I’ll come find you to go over the details!"

"Alright!"

Because Zhao Xiao’an had an interview early the next morning and needed to leave around six, they didn’t stay out for long.

Around ten o’clock, Zhao Xiao’an headed home to rest.

She offered to drive Wang Chenning back to the university, but he declined.

"You should head back and get some rest. I’ll be fine. I can sleep in tomorrow!"

"Alright. I’ll see you in a couple of days!"

After Zhao Xiao’an left, Wang Chenning sent a text to Yang Xiaofei: "I’m free now. Have your assistant pick me up at the university entrance."

By the time Wang Chenning went back to his place to grab his medical kit and walked to the university entrance, Lv Qinglan’s car was just pulling up.

With only Wang Chenning and a pajama-clad Yang Xiaofei left in the room, the atmosphere instantly grew intimate.

"A man and a woman, all alone in a room... aren’t you afraid something might happen?" Wang Chenning deliberately teased her. "I’m no saint, you know."

Yang Xiaofei didn’t seem annoyed. She gave Wang Chenning a half-smile. "Aren’t you the one who isn’t interested in me? You came all the way to my home just to break off our engagement. You’re really going to make a move on me now?"
