Chapter 40: Chapter 40: So What if It’s Your Turf?

Wang Chenning was completely unfazed. He shot them a disdainful look and barked, "Get the hell out."

"Get him!" His personal bodyguards and the venue’s security staff finally burst in. A surge of bravado washed over Li Mingchao’s grief and indignation.

However, before he could even finish giving the order, Wang Chenning had him by the throat.

"Anyone takes another step, and I’ll snap Eldest Young Master Li’s neck."

The men in black hesitated for a moment, then stopped in their tracks.

"Let go of Eldest Young Master Li!" the leader of the group threatened, his face a savage mask. "Or you’ll be the one leaving horizontally!"

Wang Chenning tightened his grip slightly. "What kind of idiots did you hire? They don’t even care if you live or die! You’re in my hands, yet they still dare to threaten me. You really need to get a brain!"

Li Mingchao struggled desperately, trying to speak but unable to get any words out. His handsome face was completely contorted.

The leader gave his companions a look. Several of the men behind him immediately fanned out, closing in on Wang Chenning.

SMACK! Wang Chenning slapped Li Mingchao across the face and snarled, "Tell them to get out."

He loosened his grip on Li Mingchao’s throat just a little.

Slapped in front of his own subordinates, Li Mingchao was overcome with shame and fury. He roared, "Get him! Kill him!"

SMACK! Wang Chenning struck Li Mingchao again. "Not bad. To think Eldest Young Master Li is so courageous. I really underestimated you!"

Then, with a lightning-fast motion, he grabbed a fork from the fruit platter and flung it.

The leader of the men in black let out a pained scream.

The fruit fork was now embedded in his leg. With a THUD, he involuntarily dropped to his knees.

As the men in black reeled in shock, Wang Chenning struck.

A roundhouse kick sent one man flying into the wall, followed by two swift front kicks that launched two unsuspecting men toward the door.

The door was quite sturdy; it only shuddered when the two burly men slammed into it, but it didn’t break.

By the time the men in black recovered and prepared to swarm him, Wang Chenning was already back at Li Mingchao’s side, restraining him once more.

Wang Chenning grabbed another fork from the platter, pressed it to Li Mingchao’s cheek, and commanded the men in black, "Since you won’t get out, then all of you will kneel. Otherwise, I’ll ruin your precious Eldest Young Master Li’s face. If a face this pretty gets scarred, what do you think will happen to you all?"

"Don’t!" Li Mingchao was starting to feel true fear.

’This bastard’s a complete lunatic,’ he thought. ’You could tell from how viciously he attacked just now. There was no hesitation. If you push him, he’s capable of anything.’

"Eldest Young Master Li, don’t be afraid!" The leader struggled to stand but could only manage to speak from a half-kneeling position. He stared fiercely at Wang Chenning. "What should we call you, friend? Don’t make things hard for our Eldest Young Master Li. If you have demands, state them."

SMACK! Wang Chenning slapped Li Mingchao again, digging the fork into his flesh. "Did you hear me? Kneel! All of you!"

"Kneel! All of you, kneel!" The pain from another slap and the fork digging into his skin caused Li Mingchao to completely break down. He shrieked, "You stupid pigs, just kneel already!"

The men in black exchanged glances until finally, at their leader’s signal, they all humiliatingly dropped to their knees.

CRACK! Wang Chenning’s foot suddenly shot out, kicking the leader square in the face.

With his leg already wounded by the fork, the leader’s movements were clumsy. And since Wang Chenning’s attack was so sudden, he had no chance to dodge.

With a cry of pain, he was sent flying sideways, crashing into several of his kneeling companions and sending them toppling over in a heap.

"No skill, no guts, and you don’t even listen to your master’s orders," Wang Chenning sneered. "If I were Eldest Young Master Li, you’d be the first ones I’d get rid of. A bunch of useless trash! What’s the point of keeping you around? Isn’t that right, Eldest Young Master Li?"

As he spoke, he casually patted Li Mingchao’s cheek.

Li Mingchao was so scared he could have pissed himself, completely unable to utter a word.

"Alright, all of you, get out. Stop interrupting Eldest Young Master Li while he’s trying to drink and talk about women!" Wang Chenning grabbed an empty plate from the table and hurled it at one of the men. "Scram, now! Or don’t blame me for what comes next!"

"All of you get out! Hurry!" Li Mingchao was no longer capable of independent thought. He’d never experienced a situation like this before and was utterly terrified.

The men in black exchanged glances before reluctantly getting to their feet.

"Wait!" Wang Chenning stopped the men as they were about to leave. He then commanded Li Mingchao, "Have them each slap themselves in the face. Let’s say... ten times each. After they’re done, they can go. Consider it punishment for their disobedience and incompetence. Otherwise, you, Eldest Young Master Li, would lose far too much face."

The color drained from the faces of the men in black, and every one of them clenched their fists.

As he gave the order, Wang Chenning pinched a pressure point on Li Mingchao’s waist.

Li Mingchao was instantly overwhelmed by a pain so intense it felt worse than death. Beads of sweat the size of soybeans rolled down his forehead.

"Do it! Slap yourselves!" he screamed. "You idiots, start hitting yourselves!"

"If you don’t listen to me again, I’ll fire every last one of you! I’ll have your wives and daughters locked up in this club for other men to play with!"

SMACK. Someone slapped themselves. Then came a second slap.

The sound finally broke the others’ resolve, and a cacophony of slaps filled the air.

"Alright, you can go now," Wang Chenning said, a satisfied smile on his face.

All the men in black shot Wang Chenning one last furious glare before turning and leaving.

The leader with the fork still in his leg had to be supported by two of his companions to get out.

Wang Chenning pulled Li Mingchao back down into his seat and chuckled. "Come, Eldest Young Master Li, let’s sit and talk. Now, about that little something I had you drink earlier... Are you starting to feel unwell? That’s right. I gave you a poison, one I developed myself. And you can rest assured, no hospital doctor will find anything wrong with you, and no blood test will detect any toxins. But make no mistake, you are poisoned."

"Wh-what did you give me?" Li Mingchao finally remembered that Wang Chenning had forced him to drink something earlier.

Everything had happened so fast that his brain had practically shut down. If Wang Chenning hadn’t reminded him, and if he wasn’t genuinely starting to feel sick, he might not have even remembered it.

"I can give you the antidote, but on one condition: you get me out of here safely," Wang Chenning said with a grin. "Otherwise, in four hours, you’ll experience a fate worse than death. I know you don’t believe me, so I want you to try it. After you do, you’ll have a much deeper appreciation for the phrase!"

With that, Wang Chenning hauled Li Mingchao out of his seat and pushed him out of the Copper Sparrow Pavilion.
