Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Unreconciled
Zhao Xiao’an looked at Wang Chenning, a mix of shame and annoyance on her face. "So, what part of me isn’t perfect?"
"We can discuss that very serious question later. Right now, saving the patients is what matters!"
After teasing Zhao Xiao’an for a moment, Wang Chenning acted as if nothing had happened and went to get changed.
Once he was ready, he gave Zhao Xiao’an a few more detailed instructions, and in the end, she decided not to argue with him.
After getting changed, the group entered the patient ward together.
After a quick briefing on the situation, Wang Chenning began to examine the patients one by one and prepare for treatment. Meanwhile, Zhao Xiao’an and her colleague readied the camera.
The patients who had been brought in were all elderly, with pronounced respiratory symptoms and severe lung infections.
Wang Chenning first examined the patient with the most severe symptoms, then began the acupuncture treatment.
Soon, Wang Chenning had finished treating the first patient.
After the acupuncture, he wrote out his medical orders—a combination of both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, as before.
Zhao Xiao’an directed the camera operator to get closer, stressing the importance of capturing certain key shots clearly.
Wang Chenning paid no mind to the camera filming him up close, completely engrossed in the treatment.
After finishing with the first patient, he moved on to perform acupuncture on the second.
Once they had the necessary footage, Zhao Xiao’an sent the camera operator out, instructing him to immediately deliver the footage from the earlier interview and the ward to the station. She wanted the video editors to cut it together as soon as possible, hoping to air it on the evening news.
She, however, didn’t leave, remaining in the patient ward.
Before entering the ward, she still hadn’t fully believed that someone as young as Wang Chenning could have cured such difficult cases. But after coming in and seeing it for herself, she was finally convinced.
Not only did she witness Wang Chenning’s superb medical expertise and Acupuncture Skill, but she also saw firsthand the intense focus and dedication he had when treating patients.
She took a few photos with her phone and posted them to her social media feed with the caption: A man who’s serious about his work is the most handsome!
...
By the time Wang Chenning finished treating all the patients, it was already past ten o’clock at night.
Only after confirming that the conditions of the several critically ill patients were much more stable than before did he prepare to leave.
’I have to be on watch here again tonight. I’ll go out to get some food and then come back.’
"Impressive!" Wang Chenning said to Zhao Xiao’an with a smile as they prepared to take off their protective gear. "I thought you would have left long ago!"
Zhao Xiao’an said proudly, "I came in with you, so I’m leaving with you. How could I possibly give up halfway?"
Wang Chenning gave her a thumbs-up.
Zhao Xiao’an rolled her eyes dramatically in return.
Zhao Xiao’an didn’t know the procedure for removing the protective suit, so Wang Chenning patiently guided her.
"Good thing you didn’t wear too many layers under this, or you’d be in for it." Wang Chenning chuckled as Zhao Xiao’an took off her suit. "Look at you, drenched in sweat. I can even smell your... fragrant perspiration!"
He even took a loud sniff as he spoke.
His words instantly made Zhao Xiao’an want to die from embarrassment and rage.
She had, of course, noticed that her clothes were soaked through. They clung to her skin, revealing every curve of her figure with embarrassing clarity. Even the lace pattern of her underwear was faintly visible, and her collarbones were exposed. It felt terribly indecent.
She quickly turned her body away.
To her dismay, Wang Chenning teased her again, "Your figure really is impressive. Just one step shy of perfection!"
Zhao Xiao’an was so mortified and furious, she felt like stabbing him.
’Well, at least I’m well-developed.’
’If I weren’t, this jerk would probably drop some line about me being a "human landing strip" or crack a joke like, "A pair of A’s? I’ll pass!"’
Seeing that Zhao Xiao’an was getting genuinely angry, Wang Chenning quickly changed his tune. "Thank you for staying in there the whole time. You worked hard, too. Let me treat you to a late-night snack."
Neither of them had eaten dinner, and they were both starving.
"Fine." Zhao Xiao’an took the graceful exit he offered and made good on her own promise. "I’ll treat you. You worked much harder than us!"
"Even better!" Wang Chenning grinned. "I was just wondering if a certain beautiful lady was going to forget her promise!"
His words earned him another eye-roll from Zhao Xiao’an.
After leaving the ward, handing off to the medical staff, and updating Lu Yuanshan on the situation, Wang Chenning followed Zhao Xiao’an out to get a late-night snack.
What Wang Chenning didn’t expect was what happened while they were finding a place and waiting for their food. Zhao Xiao’an pulled out her phone and, through her Weibo account with over fifty million followers, posted pictures and videos to the internet. The post included clips of him treating patients, a clear shot of his face after he’d removed his protective gear, and even a photo of them waiting for their food together.
"This was a tough assignment, but the medical staff have it so much harder. I can’t imagine how they endure wearing those protective suits day in and day out—I could barely last a few hours. I was also incredibly lucky today to witness a true miracle worker in action. As they say, greatness isn’t measured in years. Dr. Wang’s skills are truly amazing, I’m completely in awe! And not only is he a brilliant doctor, he’s also super handsome. This girl is having a total fangirl moment!"
The moment Zhao Xiao’an’s post went live, Weibo exploded.
A flood of comments poured in, and the post quickly shot to the top of the trending charts.
Zhao Xiao’an paid no mind to the comments from her followers.
After they finished their food, she waved goodbye to Wang Chenning.
As she waved, Wang Chenning called out with a teasing smile, "You treated me tonight, so I’ll have to treat you back sometime!"
Zhao Xiao’an looked at Wang Chenning with a sly grin. "Does that mean you’ll treat me twice?"
"No problem!" Wang Chenning readily agreed. "How about I treat you three times in return!"
Zhao Xiao’an’s pretty eyes darted back and forth for a moment before she broke into a small smile. "Why don’t you focus on curing these patients first."
"Alright!" Wang Chenning took two steps back and gave her another wave.
===========
The next morning, in an unmarked office on the forty-ninth floor of the Lingyang Group headquarters near Houhai.
A stunningly beautiful woman in a chic business suit, her hair elegantly pinned up, was attending to her work.
There was a soft knock on the door. After a voice from within gave permission, a curvaceous woman walked in briskly.
"President, Dr. Wang’s story was on TV last night. It was a report by Zhao Xiao’an!" the curvaceous woman reported in a low voice to the beautiful woman in the suit. "Dr. Wang saved many lives with his incredible medical skills. Zhao Xiao’an posted all about him on her Weibo and other social media, and even said she was having a ’total fangirl moment’!"
Hearing this, the beautifully dressed woman’s brow furrowed slightly.
"Bring me the file on him."
The curvaceous woman immediately handed over the prepared file.
"It’s all here, President."
The woman in the suit looked at the file placed before her. She didn’t react immediately, instead falling into deep thought for some time.
After about five or six minutes, she finally spoke softly, "Get in touch with Principal Lu Yuanshan. Tell him I need to speak with him."
"Yes, President!"
A short while later, the call to Lu Yuanshan went through.
"Principal Lu, hello. This is Yang Xiaofei from Lingyang Group. I’ve heard that your junior martial nephew, Wang Chenning, is an exceptionally skilled doctor. I was hoping to consult with him about a personal medical issue. Would you be able to introduce us?"
"Of course, no problem," Lu Yuanshan readily agreed.
"Hmph." After hanging up, Yang Xiaofei let out a cold laugh. ’Great Divine Physician Wang, don’t you dare think this is over.’
’He looked down on me that day. I’m going to make him answer for it.’
’No woman can stand being scorned. And I am no exception!’
