Chapter 71: Chapter 71: You Are Not Qualified
He turned his head and saw a handsome young man in a crisp suit walking toward them.
"Who are you people?" the handsome young man asked, looking coldly at Wang Chenning. "Are you here for treatment or to cause trouble? If you’re here for treatment, then show some respect. If you’re here to cause trouble, don’t blame us for what happens next."
As he spoke, his eyes fell on Zhao Xiao’an, and they instantly widened.
’What a beautiful woman!’
His anger subsided considerably.
"We’re here to see Elder Chang. We already have an appointment!" Fearing Wang Chenning might start a fight, Zhao Xiao’an quickly stepped forward to explain their purpose. "My name is Zhao Xiao’an, a reporter from the TV station. I’d like to speak with Elder Chang about filming a program."
"Very well. Please wait a moment, you two. I’ll go inform my grandfather!"
The handsome young man gestured for Wang Chenning and Zhao Xiao’an to wait, and even instructed an attendant to serve them tea.
Wang Chenning and Zhao Xiao’an had only been seated for a moment when the handsome young man returned, accompanying a remarkably vigorous-looking old man.
The old man was the founder of the Imperial Acupuncture Hall, Chang Hongwei.
Chang Hongwei’s eyes landed on Wang Chenning, and he chuckled. "Young man, you look quite familiar."
Wang Chenning rose to his feet and gave the elder a respectful bow. "Elder Chang, my name is Wang Chenning."
"Who is Wang Chongjiu to you?"
"He’s my grandfather!"
"So you really are Elder Wang’s grandson!" Chang Hongwei’s smile vanished. "Years ago, I challenged him to an acupuncture match several times, but he never dared to accept. To think that his grandson would show up today to challenge my hall... Interesting. Very interesting!"
"You must be joking, Elder Chang," Wang Chenning replied with a chuckle. "I’m only here accompanying my friend to pay you a visit; I have no intention of challenging you to an acupuncture match. I had no idea you knew my grandfather. My apologies. Though, I can’t recall my grandfather ever mentioning you!"
Chang Hongwei’s face fell.
He understood the mockery in Wang Chenning’s words.
The implication was clear: Wang Chongjiu had never mentioned him, which meant that in Wang Chongjiu’s eyes, he was so insignificant he wasn’t even worth talking about.
Zhao Xiao’an also grasped the subtext of Wang Chenning’s words, and the corner of her mouth curved into a small smile.
A flash of anger crossed Chang Hongwei’s face before he asked coldly, "And where is Wang Chongjiu?"
Wang Chenning smiled. "My grandfather is busy dedicating himself to his medical research. He has neither the time nor the interest to meddle in trivial matters."
This made Chang Hongwei even angrier.
’For Wang Chenning to mock him again and again... the sheer audacity!’
"Quite a sharp tongue on you, young man!" Chang Hongwei said, glaring at Wang Chenning. "What, you’re not satisfied with the sign at the entrance? Heh. Back then, your grandfather thought his acupuncture technique was so incredible that no one could compare. I took the initiative to challenge him, but he didn’t dare accept. Since he was too scared to face me, that means his skills are inferior to mine, and that I am Huaxia’s Number One Needle. If you don’t accept that, you can have Wang Chongjiu come find me. We’ll see who’s truly superior. If he wins, I’ll smash the sign myself."
Unfazed, Wang Chenning countered with a smile. "An acupuncture competition? How utterly boring. My grandfather has no interest in competing against others for a meaningless title. He always taught me that medical skills are not for showing off; they are for treating illness and saving lives. The ability to heal a patient is what makes a technique the best. A doctor’s greatest success is earning their patients’ trust, not some empty fame!"
After hearing that, Zhao Xiao’an couldn’t help but give Wang Chenning a thumbs-up.
She had originally assumed that a man of Chang Hongwei’s age and renown in the world of traditional medicine would possess not only excellent medical skills, but also an elevated state of mind.
She never expected reality to be such a disappointment.
She also immediately understood that Chang Hongwei and Wang Chenning’s grandfather had a history, and it was the kind of deep-seated grudge that one carries for a lifetime.
Otherwise, there was no other way to explain his behavior.
She naturally agreed with Wang Chenning. Even as a bystander, she felt that Wang Chenning carried himself with far more grace and class than Elder Chang.
"What a load of crap!" Chang Hongwei sneered at Wang Chenning. "Can medical skills improve without communication with others? Stagnation and ignorance are the greatest enemies of medical progress. By your logic, are all those medical competitions and academic exchanges useless? Every practitioner has their own field of expertise. If they communicate often, they can share their knowledge and learn from the best of others. Competition is an excellent form of communication! Winning is motivation, and losing is also motivation. What right do you have to look down on others? Even Wang Chongjiu has no such right!"
Chang Hongwei’s reaction also surprised his grandson, Chang Qingfeng—the same young man who had invited them in.
In his memory, his grandfather had never lost his composure like this. To get so angry with a young man today... it was surreal.
He reached the same conclusion as Zhao Xiao’an: Wang Chenning’s grandfather had clearly left a lasting, bitter impression on the old man.
Seeing Wang Chenning today was a case of "enemies, once met, see red."
His own animosity toward Wang Chenning intensified. ’Why does a guy like him get to have such a beautiful woman with him?’
"There’s some truth to what you say, Elder Chang. I can agree with some of your points," Wang Chenning said with a nod. "Did you know Reporter Zhao and I were coming today, and so you already planned to challenge me to an acupuncture match?"
Chang Hongwei looked at Wang Chenning with contempt. "You? A wet-behind-the-ears punk. Are you even qualified to challenge me?"
"Good!" Wang Chenning chuckled, unbothered. "Xiao’an, I’m finished here. You can discuss your business with the Elder now."
"Not so fast!" Chang Hongwei said, his eyes narrowed at Wang Chenning. "A moment ago, you were standing at the entrance, pointing and making a scene about the sign of our National Medical Hall. Your arrogant words were an insult to the Chang family. You will apologize."
"I didn’t insult the Chang family. I was merely stating a fact!" Wang Chenning said, still grinning from ear to ear.
"It seems you think your acupuncture is something special, bragging so shamelessly on television!" Chang Hongwei sneered, then commanded Chang Qingfeng, "Qingfeng, you’ll have an acupuncture match with the Wang family’s boy. We’ll see which of us has raised a more outstanding grandson."
"Yes, Grandfather!" Chang Qingfeng, who had been itching for a chance, immediately agreed. He then looked at Wang Chenning with a haughty expression. "Mr. Wang, do you dare accept?"
’I have to thoroughly humiliate him today. I’ll show him there are always bigger fish in the sea. And I’ll make that woman with him, Zhao Xiao’an, see that *I*, Chang Qingfeng, am the real young miracle doctor.’
"Are you serious?" Wang Chenning looked at Chang Hongwei in astonishment. "I have no interest in competing against you, Elder Chang, let alone your grandson."
Then he added, "I have no desire to bully the elderly, and even less desire to bully a child."
The room fell instantly silent.
Zhao Xiao’an stared at Wang Chenning, utterly dumbfounded, while the faces of Chang Hongwei and his grandson, Chang Qingfeng, had turned livid with rage!
