Vengeance in His Bed

Chapter 228: A Father’s Downfall

Boren’s finger trembled against the trigger of his revolver. The cold steel dug into Damian’s forehead, but the old Mafia lord didn’t fire. His chest heaved with ragged breaths, his teeth grinding together as he stared into the unyielding golden eyes of his only child. He was a ruthless monster who had ordered dozens of executions without batting an eye, but he could not bring himself to put a bullet through his own son’s skull.

Seeing his father’s hesitation, Damian let out a harsh, bitter laugh. He turned his head toward the sports car, raising his voice so it rang out clearly.

"Do you hear this, Jannah?!" Damian shouted, his voice echoing off the surrounding vehicles. "Dorrent did not kill your parents on his own accord! He was never a cold-blooded monster years ago! It was my father—Bellero Boren—who used Enock to poison Dorrent, forcing him into that unnatural black cycle rut! My father wanted to eliminate your mother, Frost, for rejecting him, and he used Dorrent as a blind weapon to wipe out your family!"

Inside the locked vehicle, Jannah gasped, her hands trembling against the glass as every piece of her shattered past was rearranged.

"Stop spewing nonsense!" Boren shrieked, his face twisting into a furious, panicked mask as he pressed the revolver harder against Damian’s head. "You have no proof! You have no evidence, you ungrateful brat!"

Without flinching, Damian reached inside his pocket. He slowly pulled out a small, clear glass bottle filled with a dense, white powder and held it up under the glaring headlights for everyone to see.

"I have all the proof I need, Bellero," Damian delivered coldly. "You gave me this exact bottle last week, ordering me to slip this chemical compound into Dorrent’s food so he would undergo the black cycle rut all over again and rampage in public. Nine years ago, when Dorrent visited your mansion, Enock slipped this exact same poison into his meal. And Enock is right here to testify!"

Beron’s eyes darted wildly toward the battered mechanic standing behind Damian. He immediately whipped his revolver away from Damian’s head and pointed it dead at Enock’s chest.

"Who would ever believe a word out of the mouth of a brain-damaged, mentally unstable slum mechanic?!" Beron barked desperately.

Enock didn’t back down. Dragging his bad leg forward, the mechanic looked into the barrel of the gun with a tired, fearless expression. "Every word your son said is the absolute truth," Enock declared, his voice trembling with a mixture of pain and remorse. "Nine years ago, you handed me that poison, and I added it to Dorrent Grefo’s food. I worked for you ever since, Bellero. I was the one who sabotaged the vehicles of every young Alpha who dared to get close to Jannah... making sure they were crippled so they would stay far away from her."

Dorrent narrowed his eyes, stepping forward slightly. "And what made you change your mind now, Enock?" he asked in a low, dangerous tone.

Enock swallowed hard, tears welling up in his swollen eyes. "Because my own son, Beron, ended up falling for Jannah too... and I couldn’t bring myself to sabotage my own boy’s bike. So Bellero hired someone else to do it. My son crashed into that wall... and he died in the hospital ward this morning while receiving treatment." Enock glared at the old Mafia lord with raw, deadly hatred. "You killed my son, Bellero."

"You mouthy bastard!" Beron screamed, his finger tightening around the trigger to end Enock’s life right then and there.

Before he could pull it, the wail of sirens shattered the night.

Blinding red and blue lights flooded the road as a massive convoy of police cruisers screeched to a halt around the perimeter, completely blocking off every single escape route. Armed law enforcement officers poured out of the vehicles with shields, their rifles instantly locking onto Beron’s mercenaries.

"Police! Drop your weapons immediately! Hands on your heads!"

Beron’s men didn’t even attempt to fight back. Seeing themselves vastly outnumbered by official state forces, they dropped their rifles onto the asphalt, raising their hands as officers rushed in, tackling them to the ground and slapping handcuffs onto their wrists.

Two senior officers slammed Beron against the hood of a car, wrenching his arms behind his back and snapping cuffs around his wrists.

Beron thrashed wildly, his face purple with outrage as he glared at Damian. "You absolute fool!" Beron spat, his voice cracking with venom. "I was only trying to get you a powerful wife to secure your future, and you turned against your own blood?! You will regret this for the rest of your life! What did the Grefos ever do for you that made you take their side?!"

Damian looked down at his father with absolute disgust. "Someone like you doesn’t deserve to know."

"You think this is over?!" Beron laughed hysterically as the officers dragged him backward. "You have no solid evidence against me! The moment my lawyers get me out of prison, Damian, you are a dead man!"

Damian’s golden eyes remained completely cold. "You should forget about ever stepping foot outside of a cell again, Bellero. The digital paper trail, the chemical analysis, and Enock’s confession are airtight. You are going to rot inside a high-security facility for the rest of your miserable life."

As the officers forced Beron into the back of a armored police van, Damian took a slow breath, calling out to the old man one last time.

"If only you had been nicer to Frost years ago..." Damian delivered flatly, "...things would have never turned out this way for you."

The van doors slammed shut, and the police convoy slowly began to clear the highway, leaving behind a heavy, silent stillness.

Dorrent casually adjusted his waistband, taking slow, imposing steps toward Damian. He stopped a few feet away.

"Now that you’ve played the noble hero..." Dorrent gritted out, his eyes flashing with scrutiny, "...what do you want in return?"

Damian let out a small, tired breath, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Because I owe you my life, this was nothing. I don’t want your money, Grefo. I only wish to talk to Jannah."

Dorrent’s jaw tightened. He stepped closer, lowering his voice into a sharp thread. "So... you found out?"

Damian didn’t flinch. "Of course I did. And I am not so heartless as to cause trouble for someone who saved my life back then."

"What could you possibly need to tell her?" Dorrent demanded, his Alpha territorial instincts instantly flaring up.

"It’s a secret between us," Damian answered calmly. "Don’t worry, Grefo. I have no intention of trying to steal her away, nor am I foolish enough to attempt whisking away a marked, pregnant woman."

Dorrent stared at him for a long, tense moment before turning on his heel. He walked over to the sports car, unlocked the passenger door, and pulled it open.

Jannah sat frozen in the passenger seat, her heart pounding wildly, her dark eyes wide from everything she had just witnessed through the window.

"Your doctor wants to talk to you," Dorrent delivered flatly, holding the door open.

Jannah swallowed hard, her voice trembling as she looked away from the opening. "I don’t want to talk to anyone right now, Dorrent... Just take me home. Please."

Dorrent closed his eyes briefly, taking a breath before turning back to Damian. "She doesn’t want to talk right now."

Damian nodded slowly, a soft, understanding look in his eyes as he looked past Dorrent at the pale girl in the car. "I understand. I will look for her later when she has calmed down."
