Dorrent sat on the edge of the plush mattress, his large hand idly tracing slow, possessive circles over Jannah’s hip as she lay resting against the pillows. The atmosphere in the room had finally settled into a fragile, intimate quiet, the lingering tension of their morning confession slowly giving way to a warm, simmering heat.
"Tell me, little physician," Dorrent murmured, his baritone dropping into a low, rumbling frequency that vibrated right against her skin. "What kind of a marriage ceremony would you prefer? A massive, grand public wedding with the whole public watching... or a small, quiet event done privately at a registrar’s office?"
Before Jannah could open her mouth to answer, the bedroom door swung open without a single warning knock.
Shadron sauntered casually into the room, leaning his shoulder against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest, a dark, mischievous grin plastered across his face.
"You should definitely pick the big wedding, Jannah," Shadron chimed in smoothly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Pick the grandest, most extravagant event possible so that I can have an absolute blast planning every single detail of it on your darling fiancé’s dime."
Shadron then turned his head, casting a sharp, mocking glance toward Dorrent. "Though I have to ask, my king... will you really be that patient? Choosing a massive public wedding means postponing the marriage date by weeks, if not months. It certainly won’t happen tomorrow like you originally planned, which means you won’t get to lock her in your bedroom and spend your upcoming rut period with her on your official wedding night."
Jannah’s head snapped toward Dorrent, her dark eyes flashing as the realization of his scheme hit her. A sharp, mocking laugh burst from her lips, and she shifted slightly on the bed, looking at Dorrent with a challenging, wicked glint.
"Then I choose a grand wedding!" Jannah declared boldly, her voice filled with a sweet, lethal satisfaction. "I am going to make sure I use your money exceptionally well, Dorrent. You are going to regret marrying me by the time I am done emptying your bank accounts for this wedding."
Dorrent didn’t flinch. His silver eyes narrowed slightly, his hand tightening its grip around her waist, pulling her an inch closer to his chest. "I certainly hope you aren’t choosing a massive ceremony just to avoid spending time with me during my rut, baby."
Jannah tilted her chin up, scoffing directly into his face. "I am doing whatever it takes to ensure you don’t get the chance to exhaust me at all!"
Shadron let out a loud, dramatic whistle, shaking his head as he stepped further into the room. "Speaking of getting thoroughly exhausted... Joanne got completely, utterly exhausted by me the other day."
Dorrent’s head shifted slightly, his gaze flicking toward his friend with a cold, unbothered indifference. "Which reminds me... what exactly did Joanne have to say to you the day she texted you and called you out to the western sector?"
Shadron smirked, leaning his hip against the corner of the wooden dress vanity. "Oh? Now you’re asking? I thought you were entirely unconcerned with whatever she had to present to me. I thought you said you didn’t possess a single need to know about her texts."
"You can keep it to yourself then," Dorrent delivered flatly, turning his eyes back to Jannah’s flushed face.
"Nah, I think I’ll share," Shadron chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. "She was completely drunk that day she messaged me. As for the rest of how that meeting went... well, you should just know it ended up with Joanne receiving my dick. And let me tell you, after I fucked her hard enough and she thoroughly enjoyed every second of it, do you want to know what she told me to pass along to you?"
Dorrent’s expression remained as hard as granite. "I am not interested in the slightest."
"She told me to tell you," Shadron delivered, his grin widening into a crude, triumphant flash of teeth, "that you can go ahead and stay with your useless, limp big dick, and leave real women to be handled by real men like me."
Jannah burst into a loud, unrestrained fit of laughter. She slapped her hand against the mattress, her dark eyes glittering with absolute delight as she looked at Dorrent’s stonelike, dangerous reaction.
"Ouch!" Jannah wheezed through her laughter, looking over at Shadron before turning back to mock her fiancé. "Joanne was completely right, Dorrent! You don’t deserve to be with a woman at all with a limp limb like that!"
Dorrent’s jaw clenched so tightly the muscles ticked visibly along his neck. His Alpha pheromones flared into the air, heavy and suffused with a dark, territorial heat. He leaned down, his face stopping mere millimeters from Jannah’s lips, his voice dropping into an intensely deep, dangerous rasp that sent a shiver straight down her spine.
"Joanne’s bitter logic will never apply to you, little physician," Dorrent growled low, his silver eyes burning into hers with a terrifying, possessive claim. "And my dick will always be rock-hard for you. Never limp like she claimed."
Jannah’s face flushed crimson, but she rolled her eyes, pushing against his chest with her palm. "You are an absolute psycho!"
"And you are my psychiatrist," Dorrent purred right back, unbothered, capturing her pushing hand and pressing a firm kiss into her palm.
Shadron shook his head, pushing off the vanity as he checked his device. "Anyway, shifting to actual news... I heard through the underground channels that Damian Boren officially took over his father’s throne as the new Mafia boss today."
Jannah’s laughter died down, replaced by a look of genuine surprise and slight concern. "Damian? Taking over the syndicate? With his gentle nature, there is no way he will be able to properly manage a cold-blooded crime family."
Dorrent’s grip on her waist instantly tightened, his silver eyes snapping toward her with a sudden, intense flash of dark jealousy. "And why exactly do you know so much about Damian’s nature?"
Jannah looked at Dorrent’s dark, territorial scowl, a small, provocative smirk curling onto her lips as she decided to push his buttons.
"I guess you never knew this, Dorrent..." Jannah murmured sweetly, her voice dripping with intentional teasing, "...but Damian had actually always been my crush."
Dorrent’s eyes locked onto hers with a lethal, possessive intensity, his broad chest expanding as he leaned in until his breath hotly brushed her cheek, his tone carrying a heavy, unshakeable finality.
"Too bad..." Dorrent delivered flatly, his voice echoing with a dark, thrilling possessiveness that left no room for doubt, "...your love ended up being me."
Jannah’s eyes flashed with a spark of stubborn defiance, her small hand pressing flat against his broad chest to keep a fraction of distance between them.
"I don’t love you, Dorrent," Jannah blurted out, her voice cutting through the heavy, pheromone-thick air of the bedroom. "Don’t flatter yourself into thinking a ring on my finger changes anything."
Dorrent didn’t flinch. A low, rumbling chuckle vibrated deep within his chest, sending a resonant tremor straight into her palm. He leaned down until his lips brushed against the sensitive shell of her ear, his silver eyes gleaming with a dark, absolute satisfaction.
"That is still okay, little physician," Dorrent purred, his heavy baritone dropping into a thick, intoxicating murmur. "As long as you are carrying my child, and as long as your heart irrevocably belongs to me... I am completely satisfied. I wouldn’t dare ask for a single thing more."
Jannah’s breath hitched in her throat, her face burning a violent, magnificent crimson as his words completely bypassed her logic.
From near the vanity, Shadron let out a low whistle, shaking his head in sheer disbelief as he folded his arms over his chest.
"Jesus Christ, Dorrent..." Shadron interjected, a half-amused, half-impressed smirk crossing his features. "How the hell did you manage to completely win this girl’s heart within just a few days? Nine years of bitter blood feud, and you break her defenses in less than a month?"
Dorrent shifted his head slightly, his gaze lingering on Jannah’s flushed cheeks, his thumb stroking smooth, rhythmic circles over her exposed hip.
"Because Jannah has always loved me right from the very start," Dorrent delivered smoothly, his tone laced with a terrifying, supreme confidence. "She was simply too blinded by her own hatred to even notice it."
Jannah’s head snapped back, her dark eyes wide with sudden outrage and confusion. "Why the hell are you saying that?!" she demanded, her voice cracking under the weight of his unshakeable claim. "What kind of delusion are you living in?!"
Dorrent captured her chin gently between his broad fingers, holding her fierce gaze captive under his burning silver eyes, his smirk widening.
"You don’t need to know how I knew, baby..." Dorrent whispered low, his voice trailing off into breathless, intoxication. "...You just need to accept that you’re mine, and I am yours."
