Racing Against Dawn
White Ghost struggled violently.
But with his injuries, resistance was meaningless.
Seconds after White Ghost swallowed, he felt like his body was on fire.
Heat spread rapidly through every inch of his body.
His breathing became rough.
His heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably.
"What is this?"
Realizing something was wrong, White Ghost shouted.
Julian ignored him, looking at Black Ghost.
His smile somehow became even brighter.
"Have you heard this saying?"
Black Ghost frowned.
"What saying?"
Julian answered calmly.
"A true brother is one who becomes his brother’s woman when needed."
"???"
Black Ghost froze.
For a moment, his mind completely stopped working.
When Black Ghost came to his senses, he saw his younger brother, eyes red, slowly approaching him.
Each step echoed inside the cage.
Yet, with his body suffering from comminuted fractures, he couldn’t struggle.
Watching his younger brother approach step by step.
Exuding a beastly aura.
Black Ghost swallowed hard.
Cold sweat poured down his forehead.
His courage completely collapsed.
He’d rather die than let his brother spit at him.
"Young Master Julian, I’m begging you, let’s talk this over. I’ll tell you where Lucas is, okay?"
His voice carried a hint of sobbing as he shouted.
"Speak."
Julian leaned against the cell door, smiling.
Black Ghost quickly revealed Lucas’s location.
He spoke so quickly that he barely paused for breath, fearing Julian might change his mind.
After he finished, Julian acknowledged and was about to leave.
"Young Master Julian, you can’t go back on your word. I told you the address, now let me go."
Seeing Julian about to leave, Black Ghost panicked.
Julian looked back over his shoulder.
"I haven’t verified it yet. What if you’re lying? I don’t trust your integrity."
"Besides, I didn’t give you any drugs, isn’t that letting you off?"
"Blame your brother for not being human, not even sparing his big brother."
Julian laughed mischievously as he slipped away, not forgetting to lock the door behind him.
After leaving Mickey’s Funhouse.
The deafening music was immediately muffled by the thick walls.
The cool night air felt unusually refreshing.
Julian walked toward the guard standing outside before casually giving another instruction.
He instructed the D’Aurelius family bodyguard in charge of guarding Mickey’s Funhouse.
"Guard, change the song in the room later."
"Okay, Young Master Julian, to what?"
Julian thought for a moment before snapping his fingers.
"Uh, play that song about the chrysanthemum in the flower bush being less charming than you."
The guard immediately understood.
"Oh, got it, it’s ’Chrysanthemum Blossoms All Over the Mountain.’"
Julian nodded with satisfaction.
"Ah, yes, yes."
The bodyguard immediately made a mental note, trying his best to keep a straight face. Having served the D’Aurelius family for years, he had seen countless strange orders from powerful people, but Young Master Julian’s instructions were always in a league of their own.
Still, an order was an order.
He gave a respectful salute.
"I’ll have it changed immediately, Young Master Julian."
"Good."
Julian smiled with obvious satisfaction before turning around.
Outside Mickey’s Funhouse, the cool midnight breeze carried away the muffled music that continued echoing behind the reinforced walls. Above them, the night sky stretched endlessly, scattered with brilliant stars, while the pale moon cast silver light over the lonely countryside.
Lina Ashford and Liza Voss had been waiting quietly by the car.
The moment they saw Julian emerge with that relaxed smile on his face, both women instantly understood.
He had succeeded.
Lina folded her arms, her long green hair swaying gently in the breeze.
"Judging from that smile, I’d say you got what you wanted."
Julian shrugged casually.
"I told you. There are very few people in this world who can resist true art."
Liza couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
"If that’s your definition of art, I sincerely hope I never develop the taste for it."
Julian laughed.
"You’re both too narrow-minded."
"We’re normal."
Lina answered without hesitation.
Julian placed a hand dramatically over his heart.
"You two really know how to hurt a man’s feelings."
Liza stepped closer with a teasing smile.
"Oh? I don’t think your feelings are that fragile."
"They’re extremely fragile."
"I don’t believe you."
"You should."
She looked directly into his golden eyes before smiling mischievously.
"Then prove it."
Julian sighed theatrically.
"I’ve been bullied by two beautiful women all night. Life truly is unfair."
Lina shook her head, unable to suppress a soft laugh.
"I think you’re enjoying it."
Julian grinned.
"I won’t deny that."
Liza laughed as well.
"See? I knew it."
The atmosphere became unexpectedly relaxed.
Despite the dangerous mission waiting ahead, the three of them shared an easy camaraderie that made the darkness around them feel far less oppressive.
Julian opened the car door.
"Come on."
The two women nodded.
The three took the car and left the farmhouse, heading toward the address Julian had just obtained.
The engine quietly came to life before the vehicle rolled onto the empty road.
Night had grown deeper.
The highways leading away from the outskirts of Valemont were nearly deserted, illuminated only by rows of lonely streetlights that stretched toward the horizon. The occasional gust of wind carried the scent of farmland through the partially opened windows.
Julian rested comfortably in the passenger seat while Lina drove with practiced precision.
Liza sat in the back, quietly studying the slip of paper containing the location.
"So," Lina asked after several minutes, "do you think Black Ghost told the truth?"
"He did."
Julian answered without hesitation.
"He reached his limit."
Liza tilted her head.
"You’re that confident?"
Julian smiled faintly.
"When someone is protecting a secret, they’ll lie."
"When someone is protecting their dignity..."
He paused before chuckling.
"...they’ll surrender much faster."
Liza shivered slightly.
"I almost feel sorry for him."
"Almost?"
"Only almost."
The three shared another laugh.
Silence settled once again.
Outside the windows, the scenery changed from paved roads to increasingly isolated countryside.
The lights of Valemont gradually disappeared behind them.
Only the moon remained overhead.
Julian gazed quietly at the night sky.
Lucas... I hope you’re still alive. It would be troublesome if Steffan finished you before I arrived.
Neither Lina nor Liza spoke.
Once again...
